OK, I've been doing some more research. There are theories that Christ died on an earlier day of the week, Thursday or even Wednesday. This will fit with scripture if you use a different Sabbath than the regular weekly one. So Deborah your interpretation has validity.
It also means that passages that say He would "rise from the dead on the third day" use a modern accounting, where the first day is called Day Zero. Friday then becomes the first day, Saturday the second, and finally Sunday the third day. (It is the same discrepancy that caused the Y2K scare).
So everyone can relax. For the moment anyways, Scripture remains valid. Sorry to cause an excitement. However, I wonder why there is such widespread belief that He died on a Friday?
