Luke 7:18-21 King James Version (KJV)
18 And the disciples of John shewed him of all these things.

19 And John calling unto him two of his disciples sent them to Jesus, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?

20 When the men were come unto him, they said, John Baptist hath sent us unto thee, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?

21 And in that same hour he cured many of their infirmities and plagues, and of evil spirits; and unto many that were blind he gave sight.

Luke 7:18-21 Revised Standard Version (RSV)

Messengers from John the Baptist

18 The disciples of John told him of all these things. 19 And John, calling to him two of his disciples, sent them to the Lord, saying, “Are you he who is to come, or shall we look for another?” 20 And when the men had come to him, they said, “John the Baptist has sent us to you, saying, ‘Are you he who is to come, or shall we look for another?’” 21 In that hour he cured many of diseases and plagues and evil spirits, and on many that were blind he bestowed sight.

18 These men were followers of John but they went to Jesus, people following something or someone else doesn’t change that Jesus is the one with authority.

19 John boldly proclaimed Jesus before but now because of him being arrested he doubted, we may doubt during the hard times but we can go to the Lord and be reassured.

20 So they went and asked the question on John’s behalf. Jesus thankful is the one who stands on our behalf before the Lord.

21 Jesus had already as this point healed more people then anyone else ever would. Jesus at this point already had done things that hadn’t been done before. He is still the same today.

Or Johns diciples were doubting so John was like find out for your yourself, so he sent them to Jesus and told them to ask if he was the one to come or should they look for another.

I just cannot see how John knew 100% Jesus was the Christ and then he suddenly doubted.

And why would John get his diciples to ask for him when he heard Jesus was doing great works first, why would he doubt and send people as if he wanted to know if Jesus was the one to come when he already knew and then was even told all the great things Jesus was doing before he sent the diciples and after they returned.

It just seems like John and Jesus just had a close relationship.

People are miraculously healed even today.
That doesn't mean that the person healing them is the Messiah.

I agree with the O.P.
We all have our doubts at times.
It's only natural. We're made up up physical stuff and are asked to believe in something that is not visible to the eyes but only to our spirit.
We see the effect God has, but we cannot visually see God.

I believe it's important to know what we base our faith on.
If we have faith, it must be based on something.
Many may say it's based on Jesus, but how?
How do we know HE is the messiah?
How do we know He really resurrected?
(which is the only true sign we have that Jesus is The Christ)

I like these verses:
2 John 1:2
1 John 1:1.4
John 19:35

I believe the Apostles were telling the truth.
I believe they wrote the truth and I trust them.
So I could trust what they say and are able to place my trust and faith in them.
My faith is a reasonable faith.

But there is nothing that leads to believe John was a doubter. All we know is John sent his disciples to ask Jesus if he is the one to come or should they look another.

Either John, the two diciples, or both John and the two diciples doubted.

If we put ourself in the situation and say you were my diciple and doubted me when I say to you Jesus is the Christ as everyone was waiting for a messiah, I could say to you well go to Jesus and ask him "are you the one to come or should I seek another". Because it was two diciples who went they said "are you the one to come or should we look for another".

And John seen the Spirit come on Christ, said he whos worthy, knew of the miracles Jesus was doing, even said he was the one to make straight path, even heard God say this is my Son, so how could he ever doubt. After all that. Even healing a voice from heaven saying this is my Son and seeing the Spirit upon him.

And do you think sending two diciples to question Jesus and Jesus saying "im doing more miracles" is suddenly going to convince John and change his doubting mind.

It doesn't make sense. I like things to be in harmony that makes the most sense.

Some of Johns diciples told him of the things jesus was doing, a couple of other diciples overheard or were told and doubted, so John sent them to go speak to Jesus.

Its just a theory. Im not trying to teach or in anyway saying this is the truth.

I understand you Kiwidan,
I think the bible is more complicated than we care to think.
It was written such a long time ago, and not everything was written down.

John the Baptist said: Behold the Lamb of God....who takes away the sins of the world.
John 1:29 So obviously, he believed in Jesus. Also, they were related, their mothers knew each other ... They were cousins. John the Baptist leaped for joy when Mary approached Elizabeth.
Luke 1:41

So I'm with you on this.
But maybe when John got arrested he started to wonder if Jesus was the awaited Messiah or just a miracle worker? Maybe his fears got the better of him. When we watch a movie, they make it seem as though those people had no fear --- incl the persecuted Christians that came later. Could this be so simple? Were they not human?

I think John might have doubted --- he just needed to make sure.
Like Thomas maybe.

Also, I think I'm not getting your entire point.
Sorry if I'm not.

And what you believe has the same amount of proof as what I believe. We can only assume some things that are not fully clarifed in scripture. I don't think its a issue, its not like were doomed because of it.

Its not like scripture says " they said these things because John doubted" or " they said these things because some of his diciples doubted".

Right.
It's conjecture.
This goes more to history than doctrine, so how could we be sure?
:shrug

I was only giving the only alternative, but like you said John being thrown in prison and fear could definately have played a role. It could well have been John doubting.

I wonder why Herold thought John had raised from the dead and he was doing all the miracles. Did John even do any miracles or did the King get Jesus and John mixed up.

"And said unto his servants, This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead; and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him."

If I remember correctly, Herod was afraid of John. He didn't really want to kill him.
When Herod said the above verse, he meant that he thought John the Baptist had been reincarnated in Jesus.
P.s. Or maybe that John's "spirit" was in Jesus...

This is my understanding. I think it's correct.
