Luke 7:36-38 King James Version (KJV)
36 And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee's house, and sat down to meat.
37 And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment,
38 And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.

Luke 7:36-38 Revised Standard Version (RSV)
A Sinful Woman Forgiven

36
One of the Pharisees asked him to eat with him, and he went into the Pharisee’s house, and took his place at table. 37 And behold, a woman of the city, who was a sinner, when she learned that he was at table in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster flask of ointment, 38 and standing behind him at his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.

36 This may have meant this Pharisee was a follower of his but hadn’t left his religious group or this could mean that this Pharisee was interested in what Jesus taught and wanted to know more but this was done for good and not a evil invite. We learn this Pharisee could have been named Simon.

37 This woman came being a sinner which meant most likely she was a prostitute but includes to her living by sinful behavior. This ointment may have been the thing of most worth she had, it may have been the only thing she had of value.

38 She both showed a humble repentance and devoted service to Jesus by this act. We need to show the same by how we live for Jesus.

Jesus went on to say that this woman loved much. She washed His feet with her tears. How many tears would you have to cry to wash someone's feet with them. This must have been true repentance. Jesus told her 'your faith has saved you, go in peace.' Verse 50.

It must have taken courage for her to enter the Pharisee's house. A marvellous example of how much we should love the Lord and follow Him devotedly.

It says to me no matter what our past God will forgive and we should move on with a new heart, and a new life dedicated to God.
