For example, I'd never recommend this lady but she said this:
Forgiveness is not always easy. At times, it feels more painful than the wound we suffered, to forgive the one that inflicted it. And yet, there is no peace without forgiveness. Marianne Williamson

It's true. But in this case I don't need her to quote since I have many other sources. but quoting her words isn't of itself wrong

Promoting her is IMHO
Interesting observation about promoting her. There are links to Marianne's work here and if I am not mistaken a link to her own website.

It might be promoting what she says but I don't believe that it is promoting atheism in itself. I didn't see anything about atheism being mentioned in UberMink's signature.
That's because there is nothing referring to atheism in my signature.
Though the Marianne Williamson quote led someone to imply because someone quotes her they can't be a Christian.

God knows my name. That's what matters.

So in principle there is nothing wrong with it. But if I were promoting the philosophy of non believers or making light of a New Age teacher, not good. We have plenty of good models in Christianity (Paul is on and hey, Jesus is another!)

2Ti 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2Ti 3:2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
2Ti 3:3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
2Ti 3:4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
2Ti 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
2Ti 3:6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
2Ti 3:7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

That's because there is nothing referring to atheism in my signature.

Meaning does not lie in things. Meaning lies in us. ”–Marianne Williamson

This is false for example. Meaning lies in knowing God and God alone. If I look to myself for meaning I'm lost.

Williamson says a lot of good things. But she says questionable things as well. The above is one such questionable example. ;)

Still. You have to agree with me on one thing. All this fuss and arguments over it is rather ridiculous isn't it? I mean, I'm really not trying to stir up trouble or anything but I think that we could all really start being more respectful of each other and our different opinions. This has gotten way out of hand and a lot of these posts have gone way out of line imho.

I think we're having an adult conversation. ;)

I am an adult,..sort of. I mean I'm a big kid at heart don't get me wrong,.. I just think that we should really listen to the advice of miss Aretha Franklin. :wink

Over what, exactly?

Basically over nothing dude. Just relax a little bit why don't ya?

Over whether or not some lady is a Christian. As long as Uber isn't promoting Marianne's beliefs (which clearly she's not) then why is it a problem if she's a Christian who quotes her? Sorry, but that's the part that I'm having trouble understanding.

That's because that is not what the majority of the discussion has been about, and almost all of it since page 2.

Here's how I see it. It's not about if she's a believer in Jesus or not, it's about her teachings. What's her message? That's what matters. From that we can discern if she's a follower.

It's not wrong to quote her (also not necessary because one can quote Christian authors or personalities that say similar things). Depends on one's motives. If I quote Stephen Hawkins, an atheist, but I do so in the context of science, so what? He's a scientist. That's what I mean.

Now for spiritual quotes, I'll stay clear of New Age teachers BUT many of the things she says are spot on. If one can discern the difference, reading her quotes won't be a problem.
