So does that mean that it isn't a problem then?
That what isn't a problem? You need to be much more clear in your communication. I don't know if you're asking about Marianne Williamson or UberMink. There isn't really a problem if someone quotes something from a non-Christian that is truthful. It becomes a problem if they endorse everything the person says.

If you're asking about Marianne Williamson and her beliefs, which is what most of the discussion has been about, then, yes, that is a big problem. That is what I have been arguing. Williamson is mingling Christian belief, or at least Christian language, with New Age beliefs and spirituality. It is a path that will lead many astray and give them a false hope in a false gospel based on a false Christ. The Bible does not look kindly on people who do that. It refers to them as false teachers.

There simply is nothing in Marianne Williamson's beliefs, as seen in statements on her own website and the one given in the OP, that she is a Christian. She says empty things that appeal to people. It is precisely the type of thing Paul is referring to in 2 Timothy:

2Ti 4:3 For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions,
2Ti 4:4 and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths. (ESV)

Yes, I have to agree. That and she also promotes a Course In Miracles. That's a huge red flag for me.

Islam: Mohammed gets what he claimed to be an angelic visitation and writes the Koran.
Mormonism: Joseph Smith claims an angel named Moroni told Joseph about an ancient book, made of gold plates and Joseph writes the BOMormon
A Course In Miracles: Helen Shucman, a professor of Medical Psychology at Colombia University who took ‘dictation’ from an ‘inner voice’ that she recognized as Jesus and wrote A Course In Miracles.

See the pattern?

Marianne Williamson has said: "My book A RETURN TO LOVE is like “The Cliff Notes” of A COURSE IN MIRACLES. It takes the basic ideas of the Course and breaks them down into “Principles” and “Practice.” Here’s the idea, then here’s the practical application. Here’s the idea, then here’s the practice."

The Course teaches that there are no absolutes; truth is relative and is determined by one's experience. According to the Cyclopedia In A Course In Miracles, "only what is loving is true." So truth is subjective.

Marianne Williamson, the author of A Return To Love, made this observation about truth in her book: "There's only one truth, spoken different ways, and the Course is just one path to it out of many." In other words, no one religious tradition has all the truth, but there are many avenues to the truth and the individual has the freedom to choose the path most suitable to him or her.

Who Is Jesus?

According to Williamson, Jesus is one of many enlightened beings. In her text she makes this statement, "Jesus and other enlightened masters are our evolutionary elder brothers." She continues by saying that "the mutation, the enlightened ones, (including Jesus) show the rest of us our evolutionary potential. They point the way." So in reality Jesus is a way-shower.

Williamson makes a telling observation on page 41 of her book by saying that, "A Course In Miracles does not push Jesus. Although the books come from him, it is made very clear that you can be an advanced student of the Course and not relate personally to him at all." This is an interesting comment regarding the lack of relationship one is to have with their God. For Christians, faith is built on a personal relationship with Jesus. Without it, their salvation would be in question.

Williamson continues by saying, "Jesus reached total actualization of the Christ mind, and was then given by God the power to help the rest of us reach that place within ourselves." Such a statement brings to mind Matthew 7:23 where Jesus says, "And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!'"

That pretty much discredits Marianne Williamson. Case closed! Well done Papa. Now, where's my birthday cake???

But she's still very appealing. hmmmm, the Devil appears as an angel of light:

'For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. No wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. Therefore it is not surprising if his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness, whose end will be according to their deeds. ' 2 Corinthians 11:13-15 https://www.bible.com/bible/100/2CO.11.13-15

Just imagine, if someone hadn't started this thread, most of us would NEVER have heard of Marianne Williamson!!! Now there's a tad of irony in that fact!

Just to be clear, quoting someone who is NOT a Christian isn't in itself wrong or bad or whatever. The why matters. Williamson says many things that are completely Biblical. Take them for what they are worth and fergetaboutdit. But always look deeper into someone if you are going to learn more from them (Like I am doing with a secularist Professor Jordan Peterson). ;)

His latest book is on my Amazon wish list.
I bought it and have been watching his videos. Some Christian leaders are cautioning others about getting too fond of him but others are applauding Peterson for saying what the Church (and parents and leaders) should have been telling young men long ago. I've been saying it too (because I lived my life that way albeit by the Grace of God!!!) I love his message and I can sort it out. I'm encouraging my son to read his book with me. The guy is smart and stays so calm in interviews. The Youtube vids are the best. I can't get enough.

I've only seen a handful of his videos, although just yesterday I watched him destroy Cathy Newman in an interview. She seemed rather clueless to what he was actually saying, or at least was reading into it all what she wanted to read. I do think Christians need to be careful with him, as his conclusions are all based on humanist ideology. However, I certainly agree that his overall message is long overdue and that he has stepped up into a place the Church and parents need to be. I think his message resonates with secular young men all the more because he isn't a Christian. But as long as Christians are aware of his humanist ideology, take the truth from it all (since there does seem to be quite a bit that is compatible with Christianity, if not the same) and leave the rest.

He really is brilliant and so articulate. I would vote for him to be Prime Minister. I can't wait to get that book.

I saw it too. Twitter can't shut up about it. She looked so bad. Many articles written about that interview and none favorable to her!

Lol Papa! But yeah that goes for me too. Sorry if I offended anybody today. Misunderstandings seem to be one of my specialties unfortunately.[/QUOTE]

StoveBolts What to you say a Christian is?
I realize that this may seem like bickering, and I apologize if it has, but there is an undertone here, which has rightly perplexed Free.
If I were to say what a Christian is, it is simply this. A Christian is one who loves the Lord with all their heart, and loves his neighbor as he loves himself. Christianity is about the heart, it always has been, and always will be.
What we learn, is that we don't always treat ourselves the way God wants us to treat ourselves, and we don't always love God the way he would want to be loved, and as a result, we don't love our neighbor as we should... Why? Because we haven't learned how to love ourselves the way we should.
Paul tells us twice in scripture that I'm aware of, that we ought to put others above ourselves, and we ought to have some humility. While I fail on these fronts, I do try, and I shall continue to try and if it has looked like petty bickering, I'm sorry.

For the fear of misspelling her name, the woman this thread is in regard to has been condemned by others who disagree with her theology and by proxy, have attempted to discredit a fellow member on this forum. Please know some members did not know of this undertone and innocently partook in the slander of another member.

Please forgive me for allowing this. I have no excuse. This thread should have never been allowed to continue, and I'm ashamed I thought I could prove a point.

As such, this thread is now locked and will be moved to dead threads.

It is my hope that by being transparent about this matter, that we will all learn and grow from this experience.
