Mark, I wasn't suggesting you're wrong about the compilation. I've only read his books. You've looked into some behind-the-scenes stuff that I haven't. Besides Lewis' gift of faith, I really feel his greatest gift is simply to quickly, succinctly get in, make a clear point, and get out. Too many apologists and authors either don't make clear points or they take 5 pages to say what they could have in 1. They might have very persuasive arguments, but they lose them in not have tight points.

I, too, love it when I hear from someone who appreciates him as much as I do! I'll be honest, though. A lot of people loved "The Screwtape Letters". It does nothing for me, personally. It just seems to go on and on, back and forth, over and over, letter after letter. But it's the only book of his I haven't liked a lot.

Finished the book today. It definitely has left me with plenty of food for thought. Now I need to digest what I read. The closing paragraph of the book I found very enlightening.

I couldn't begin to list all the nuggets I found in this book. I think I literally read 4 or 5 times in the year I truly was brought to faith. Loved the part where he talks about how people say it's unfair that Christ was able to rise above sin while in the flesh, and then he compared it to someone handing a branch to a drowning person, with the drowning person getting mad and saying, "No fair! You're on solid ground! I don't want your help!!"

Yep, the Preface in my copy explained how they were 'wartime' talks on the BBC on the Christian faith. I just assumed it was in all of them!

I find myself already wanting to read it again, but I've already started Pilgrims Progress, plus I have some Bible studying to do today.

Oh I agree, Mike! There's a bunch of little "nuggets" as you call them in this book. I kept wanting to sit the book down and post something that he'd written but as soon as I stared typing I realisd I was just copying the entire page, not just a section! :lol

EDIT: Yeah, the sad truth is, I could see someone saying that! I knew a lifeguard when I was younger and there was a time he had to litterally knock out the person he was saving from drowning 'cause he would have pulled them both under.

I conducted a search in this forum before I posted about this wonderful book myself. So glad to revive this discussion as I am just finishing the audio book version of Mere Christianity.
Available at YouTube also, but too as I found , in CD audio-book format, thank God.

I highly recommend this to anyone who seeks to look deeply into the path of our faith.
God blessed C.S. Lewis in his writings that is for certain.
Sharing this in the meantime.
