Hi there people.

the question is pretty simple, but yet its something im really struggling with. I really LOVE my metal music, its a big part of my life, from Iron Maiden to Blind Guardian, to Rammstein to HIM to Iced Earth to Demons and Wizards. Hardcore metal music from people who are definately NOT christians.

so... do you thinkwe should be listening to this type of music? what does God want? will you be able to give up your music if God asks you? will you give up your one thing you are really passionate about if God wants you to??

cheers.

P.S - i spend my time on metal forums trying to ease people into the idea of christianity. the saddest thing ever is that people reject us when they have no idea what we are truly about. :sad

The style of the music is not an issue, the presentation and lyrics are.

There used to be a lot of really good christian metal groups out there, but not as many now.

if this is the type of Question that people will give alot of predurdist to then i choose not to answer that question.

I believe that a Christian can listen to Hevey metal music depends on what he/she listens to.

there is a good site for you Agarash it is a christian metal magazine.

wow, thanks, thats alot of info. not sure ill get through it all. but like does it depends on the lyrics?? what if the lyrics are pretty bad, almost to a point of blashphemy.. is it better to stay away?

In every style of music there is that which is good, that which is ok, and that which is definately bad--verging on evil!

I always found it amusing when certain "christian" businesses would refuse to play "Rock Music", yet would play Mozart's "Magic Flute", or Wagner, Tchaikovsky, Richard Strauss etc.

There is nothing wrong with metal music, but there is wrong with listening to music with evil lyrics. If a band is singing against God or praising Satan, as I know many metal bands do, you should not allow that filth to enter your ears. Go to http://solidstaterecords.com for some Christian metal bands. They might not be quite the caliber of the secular artists, but they are singing for God, which is the most important thing.

Hey Agarash...have you ever given Christian metal a listen? I have to disagree with Bryan, because there are tons of awesome Christian rock, hard rock, and metal bands out there....I'll shoot ya pm in a minute.

I don't listen to secular music because I just felt convicted by the Spirit not to...not to mention, the quality of the Christian music that is out there today is so much better than it was years ago when they were only trying to copy cat the secular world. Now there are secular bands trying to mock the Christian ones. :biggrin

thanks for all the info guys, wow that info on classical music is amazing!!!

Agarash, check out a band called Soulfly. They may seem iffy, but they have often put the notion of "God" guiding them into their lyrics.

On the topic of what to listen to and what not, it depends on how it affects you. If your listening to something thats screaming at you to eat dead people, smash beer cans over peoples heads and do drive by shootings at schools, and you feel compelled to do so, then no, dont listen to it. But if it just washes over you and you appriciate it as music, and works of art from the artists who create the complete sound for you to listen to, then by all means, listen.

From your first post I see that you like Rammstein. You seen them live in concert? If not, then you are missing out on a truly excellent show, trust me :biggrin

if they ever come to south africa (highly unlikely) ill be sure to catch ethem. thats the problem being here so far south... .no one wants to come.. :sad

I think it depends on the type of metal music you're listening to. I know some Christians who believe it is most un-christian to even listen to Christian Contemporary music. There is alot of heavy metal that does not have bad lyrics. It's a matter of exercising discretion. Cradle of Filth is a Death Metal band that glorifies murder, rape, and satanic worship. Obviously that is the type of music you don't want to listen to. Not all metal is based around such themes, however.

Firstly, someone who listens to metal would have to be stupid to take the lyrics seriously. Secondly, much of the time you can't even make out what the lyrics actually are...

Why does a post that merely claims that Fear Factory's "Demanufacture" album is a classic, get deleted?

Have you listened to Fear Factories Archtype?

Thats heavy man, heavy!

Yes, its a good album and Burton's vocals are easily the best he has done in a long time.

When they were touring Archetype I caught one of the London shows.

:biggrin
