alright, i'm a teen (i thought i should post this here instead of the teen forums)

and my parents always get mad at me whenever i listen to any of these bands,
they say that they are devil worshiping, satanic cults who teach kids to kill..

i highly doubt that, but it's what they say so what can i do?

and my sisters all listen to rap and that new crud, like lady gaga Tech n9ne and all that stuff

they are disgusting, the stuff they sing about is just.. not right but they don't care they let them listen to it but freak out on me whenever i listen to my music, they think that AC/DC is satanic... they think that Skillet (a christian rock band, pretty popular) they think that skillet is satanic...

and when i ask them "why do you think that?" they say "because we can't understand what they are saying"

anyone elses thoughts on this? i want to say somthing to them but i know the consequences if i do, i even sat down with them and showed the lyrics to some of the songs!

do any of you guys think these bands are satanic? and if you do, PLEASE post a reason WHY and proof backing up your theory.

thanks :)

Part of me would love to correct your parents on what satanic music is, however I am getting older so I wont. However I do have to admit that regarding the more "modern" bands that you listed(metallica, disturbed, and stained) do have lyrical issues that some parents might take offense to. In regards to 5 Finger Death Punch(yup I know who they are) or any other "extreame metal" bands you might listen to, lyrics are one of many problems a parent would have. However disturbing the lyrics might be they are not in fact satanic in any fashion. For that you would need to find other bands(nope not gonna tell you what ones either).

hope it helps
probably wont but hey one can hope.

I'm not familiar with all the bands, but not only do I like to Metillica... so does my pastor, who is a very, very conservative guy. Skillet is far from Satanic, as you said, they are Christian.

If I'm following your thread, I gather your parents are OK with Lady Gaga and rap but not Metillica?

Being a teen, you have to honor your parents wishes. But, you should ask if you can sit down and have a discussion. Come ready with printed lyrics of some of the stuff your sister listens to, as well as some of the stuff you like... but don't put the names on anything. Ask your parents to sort which they think is "satanic"... see how things get sorted. Perhaps that can start a discussion.

However, bottom line... you're a teen... if they absolutely ban it, be respectful and honor their wishes. It won't be all that long before your 18 and you'll be able to listen to what you want.

Are you kidding me? Don't you know that AC/DC means "Anti Christ/ Devil Christ"? And that KISS means "Knights In Satans Service"? Sheesh!

Hey, we used to have things called "albums". They were black disks and if you spun them backwards, you could get hidden messages from Satan on albums like Led Zepplin and Queen.

Seriously.... I'm 42 and I grew up with AC/DC and Metallica. Been to many of the shows. In fact, I was really into that music and got into Punk Rock (real punk rock, by the way) after that. I put away most of those things. Just ain't into it anymore. I am just into Gospel now, and maybe a bit of country. However, I am an avid weight lifter... Quite frankly... Nothing gets the adreniline running like Iron Man! I stil have tunes like that on my Ipod.

Metallica and Iron Maiden also have some pretty great historical songs. Love them!

BUT... I will say anything that doesn't praise Jesus or support Jesus is against Jesus. And these bands don't do that. I heard that Ozzy Osbourne used to end his concerts with "God bless you all". So I suppose that's something, but no.... These songs don't bring much Glory to God. Some of them tell the truth about life, but that's about it.

I'd encourage you to pick up the Bible if you haven't already and analyze the songs. Not to trash them, but to understand them. I don't really think that these folks in the bands mean to be "evil". But Heavy Metal bands often get it all wrong when they try to sing about things in the Bible. Just know the truth!

But hey... Gotta say that if you are in your parents house and under their watch, you have to respect them. Go ahead and disagree with me and them.... Then talk to me when you turn 25 or 30 and understand that food and rent money doesn't come easy.

All that being said, I like classical music too. I have to say there is as much evil in classical music as there is in Heavy Metal and TWICE as many lies in Gospel music as there is in Heavy Metal.

Metallica is not a "new" band, they had their first concert in 1981 ;)

I also grew up with AC/DC, Metallica, Judas Priest and many others. Not Staind, cause I started Hard Rock and Metal in 1990. So I have been listening to this for 22 years now and never been into satanist stuff.

From my experience only 2 to 5 % of people who display the 666 or inverted crosses actually mean it. Heavy Metal fans are usually male, white, middle or lower class, tolerant people who are neither pro or anti christian. Usually they don't care about your religion or political views. What I like about the scene is that nobody cares if you're fat or an athlet, how much your car or your clothes cost. The only thing that matters is you got to be real (don't use the word "true" here). That is just a nice environment for many of us.

A lot of people however had negative experiences with christians or churches. Not with god. Rather with specific churches or people (like parents). So the whole devil/666 thing is more a reaction. And of course moneymaking TVenvangelists and abuse (especially in the catholic church) fuels that.

Talking about lyrics. Ever listened to hiphop/gangstarap/reggae? Discrimination of women, sexual explicity, black racism is rampant. Still a lot of people go the "not all of it is bad" line. On the other hand, while only a few metal bands actually have "evil" lyrics, a lot of christian people love to generalize.

Most heavy metal songs are not about sex. There is more sex in the Charts than on during a heavy metal festival. On the other hand heavy metal often mentiones stuff like environmental issues (e.g. Nuclear Assault in the 80s, Metallica "Blackened, 1988) or the death penalty (Metallica "Ride the lightning" 1984). Yes there are bands or songs I would never listen to but they are few.

A lot of people dislike Metal for the simple reason that they are used to very simple 3 minute songs and just can't cope with 8-minute-long songs with a lot of structure, extended guitar soli and lyrics which are not totally shallow.

Finally it's the music. In our church I nearly fell asleep every time when the service starts with 40 minutes of worship, with all songs in the same slow speed, similar melodies and similar lyrics. Great lyrics, but boring songs. There are christian rock bands and evven metal bands but they are few. And let's be honest, Stryper is no alternative to secular rock bands, they just don't "kick".

I wish there was a christian metal band that could make music like Metallica, Slayer or Exodus.

And if one says "if it's not for Jesus it's against it" - then I wonder if I should stop doing sports or amateur radio because it is not "for Jesus" as well.
Such statement just provokes criticism and it's not very tolerant. AND THAT IS WHY a lot of people in HEAVY METAL DON'T LIKE US.

AC/DC actually means alternating current/direct current and the names came by the initials "AC/DC" on a sewing machine. Heavy Metal music is not always against Jesus words, I know that there's bands that are pretty much against the Christianity but it's just the songs thought. You've got to remember that in each of these Heavy Metal band someone is a Reborn Christian's and not them all are from the 'Dark Side'

Also should ponder the meaning of the lyrics. As many says that Master of Puppets are about Satan but it's not, it's about a drug addiction.

Nicko McBrain (Iron Maiden) : Reborn Christian
Tom Araya (Slayer) : Says that it's his job, he's a christian
Dave Mustaine (Megadeth) : ' I got saved in 2002 '
Alice Cooper : 'Drinking beer is easy. Trashing your hotel room is easy. But being a Christian, that's a tough call'
Dan Spitz (Anthrax ) :Reborn Christian
James Hetfield (Metallica) : Reborn Christian

And many more, find yourself them.

Nuclear Assault are the best!
