Verna's my one, true, Christian friend. She's in her 70s, old school Pentecostal. She's been a huge blessing in my life.

OK. Her health issues continue. Her kidney function studies came down a bit, which is worrisome (Nobody wants dialysis). I think she is now off yet another round of antibiotics, which is good. At this point, she's barely able to make herself eat enough...--but-- since she's been off the antibiotics, her nausea and other problems have (predictably) lessened considerably.

Her estranged daughter dropped by her house with her great-grandson, and now she's been sending texts here and there. I'm thankful. Verna has a grand-daughter, Leslie, who is trapped in darkness and unrepentant sin, compounded by poverty and what looks like a wasted youth (I think she's at or near 25). I Praise God for sparing Leslie thus so far, and I also make it a point to pray that He will move on her heart and bring her to genuine repentance.

I don't think Verna gets to attend church as often as she'd like, which troubles her. She's good about telling me "God knows right where you're at," but I think because she was brought up in a church-going family and its always been a big part of her life, this is...not good. Despite all that, she has a circle of close, Born Again friends she keeps in touch with and prays with, too.

Verna's filled my life with godly wisdom and some much needed reality checks. For instance....more often than I'd like, I think about my shock 'treatments' and the lobotomy. Ugh. These days, I'm bright eyed, healthy, no obvious brain damage, much more energy, and I even write better and can communicate more effectively. Anyway, Verna told me..."don't worry about brain cells. you probably have more brain cells now than you did back then. besides, God made you smart." See what I"m saying? Awesome, genuine friend, that Verna.

OK. Thanks for the prayers, Scripture, and support. :)

Lifting up Verna in prayer this morning. I have kidney issues too and other health problems. I can relate. Not eating enough is not good because one needs to keep up one's strength. I'll pray for that as well.

thanks, y'all :)

I know that no one lives forever, this side of Heaven (or...the other place...). I never got be very close to my grandparents or most of the extended family (they live way off), so Verna's sort of like...a 2nd mother, plus she comes from a big family, and she fills me in on things from her life, the good and the bad, even the seemingly hum drum and prosaic. For someone whose memories were, until fairly recently, blasted into oblivion by those shock 'treatments,' this is -huge-.

Now, of course...I have my mama back, or I should say....as who I am now, and who I am becoming in Christ Jesus (thru a miracle!), I -can- be reconciled unto both my mama and my dad. That's a -massive- miracle, too. So, as The Lord has taken away much of the brattiness, the childishness, the bitterness and general nastiness...

I don't know, lol. You wake up, you begin to see life differently, by God's grace. I guess this is a much-needed growing up process, but...then again...growing up, in Christ, is far better than being "conformed unto the ways of this world."

No one is a kid forever. No one is even 16-24 forever, lol. Put off the old, put on the new. Die to self daily. Put aside what is behind, and press forward...

OK. Thanks again. :)
