Yup, we're getting there Lewis! While I was driving into work this morning the reality of how very little that needs to be done to get er on the road struck me. Pinch me cause if feels like I"m still dreaming LOL!

Reba,
Yeah, the car's certainly real. My Dad calls it a pile StoveBolts :lol Hence, my screen name. :biggrin He was really upset when I took the Manual transmission out and put in the automatic.

blown up? you on crack Lewis? I aint even got it licensed or tabbed yet for the street and you want me to blow it up? :toofunny

Jk, :biggrin

The site only allows pictures up to 640x640... :screwloose

Well I'm kinda bummed....

I spent between 2 and 3 hours per rim sanding and polishing them to make them as shiny as I could. It was hard, tedious work and yes, I used a cloth buffing ball on the end of my drill for the mirror finish.

Anyway, all four tires are dry rot, which I knew.. No biggie. So I took it to the tire store to get fitted for some new shoes and found out that the dummies that had the car before me used the wrong lug nuts (they used short shaft) and ended up worboling out the holes so my rim is ruined. I knew about the short shafts because I replaced them way back when. But honestly, I don't think I've driven a total of 200 miles since I've owned the car back in 2000.

So now I'm looking for a used set of rims and tires that match my budget. I don't mind getting a set of used tires with not a lot of tread if I can get a nice set of rims. 16's or 17's would be fine :)

Finding them may be difficult though with my limited budget.

Thanks for asking Reba!

Just have to give a plug to Warholak Tire Service - Detroit's best place for new & used tires. They are the best!

BTW, these Firestones really grab the pavement. I've got a set of Competition Engineering slide a Link's in the back that I've been toying with, and it's actually hard to spin the tires now, where as last year I spun the car 180 degrees with a different set of tires! Instead, now she just squats and launches forward! And goes straight! Well, when I shift into 2nd gear at 6800 rpm, she slides to the right about 6 inches before biting down and launching forward, but I'll get that tuned out of the suspension next weekend :wave

BTW, finally got the engine bay cleaned up. It needs a lot of work, but considering, I don't think it looks that bad. Making the engine bay look pretty will come after the interior.

Is this is your commuter car? :) I'm a little jealous.

commuter car ha ha ha! You think I'm made of money? Why you think it took me since 03 to pull this together :lol

I'm not sure what mpg I'm getting right now because my fuel guage doesn't work, and my spedo is off over 20mph so there isn't any way for me to run the math, but if I were a guessing man, I'm thinking I'm getting somewhere around 4 or 5 mpg, and that's running 93 octane. I'm sure once I get the carb re jetted and the timing exactly where it needs to be with the right springs for the mechanical advance, I might get 7 or 8 mpg?.... :pray

Anyway, I topped off my tank in town, drove home, then went back into town, then did a 30 mile road trip and ended up putting just over 9 gallons in to top it off. I'm guessing that was about 50 miles or so?? I'm too lazy to google map it :biggrin

Commuter car! Ha! :toofunny

I was thinking it probably didn't get good gas mileage, even so, I "might" drive it to work IF I had my own safe place to park it, that is if someone else was paying for the gas. :lol
It's a cool car! Maybe you can put it in some auto shows.

btw, did you see this? http://www.christianforums.net/f30/sold-hot-rod-new-kitchen-36940/
Reba sold a hot rod for a new kitchen!!!!
Do you see anything wrong with that kitchen? :)

Wow, I would have loved to take a ride in Reba's hot rod! That was pretty cool and I've always liked them old Rods for sure!

Well, I know that mamma uses the kitchen more than I do.... and I know who feeds me delicious home cooked meals every day, sooooo I'll make the smart call and say it needs remodeled lol!

As far as driving it to work, ummm... I'm 47 miles to work. That being said, I am taking the 27th off this month for a huge car show that I'm registered for, and no, not every car is allowed into the show so I feel privileged :thumbsup

The only major problem I'm having right now is overheating while sitting in traffic. I'm pretty sure it's a simple remedy by installing a larger fan, but I'm kind of tight on funds right now. Also, if I cruise @ 70-75mph (4200 rpm) for any length of time she starts to warm up too.

Anyway, I sure hope a larger fan will fix it. You know, that does make me think.... I know I'm running lean and @ 4000 rpm I'm into my secondaries which is where I'm mostly running lean. Running lean will cause an engine to run a bit warm too. Now I'm wondering if the larger jets for my secondaries will help with this... Off the top of my head I would think so.

Congrats on getting into the car show!
Maybe you just need a new thermostat. :shrug

Thanks! I can't believe how dirty the car gets just sitting under a cover in the garage... Talk about high maintanence.. geesh!

Thermostat?... It was new back in 04 when I built the motor :biggrin ha ha!

Actually, I think a bigger fan, and bigger secondary jets in the carb will get it running cooler. I already know it's running lean in the secondaries, and lean will make it run hotter. It's just about taking the time to pull the carb again to swap out the rear jets. It's pretty easy to do. Just gotta do it. :yes
