John 14:2 "In My Father's house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you."

What is His Father's house, and why many dwelling places? Does this reference OT saints or the Son of God or something else?

Why did Jesus say " if it were not so, I would have told you", a subjective statement between two objectve statements.

What or whom is the place Jesus will go to prepare, and why did He have to go to prepare it?

Are the places in the Father's house different from the place Jesus is going to prepare? If they are different, will they become the same; or if they are now the same, why the distinction?

Wait, are you talking about a house of salvation, or the way it is obtained?

If you look at it in another translation it seems a little different.

In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?

What do you think those rooms, or dwelling places are, and why?

Ah, I see. I honestly have never thought of it before. On one hand I would think God already has things 'lined up' for believers, seeing how His plan for all of this 'time period' we are in was known before the world was made.

Or, it could be that just as He created the world, He is also creating a place for us - in a literal sense. After all, He did take 'time' to create the world.

I am often amazed at the microcosm that He created. Individual cells and how atoms make up what we see physically. But then when you consider the macrocosm, the vastness of the universe, it is almost more than we can comprehend.

I studied the macrocosm some for a time. I was amazed to consider that Scientists absolutely cannot count the number of stars in the sky. They say that even the fastest computer, running non stop, could not count the number because it would take so long. If you look at what they see with the Hubble telescope, just a minuscule fraction of a picture it took, contained so many stars.

So, I think(absolute conjecture) that it is possible that Christ is actually preparing a place for us in the Universe somewhere. I mean, if you think about it, I highly doubt He created the universe so vast just for nothing. Not that He doesn't have the right, but reason would say its for a purpose.

Would you consider:
1. The many rooms in the Father's house is a reference to / metaphor for OT saints who were soon to be in Christ after His crucifixion and Resurrection, the Lord Jesus Christ being the Father's house / mansion.
2. Christ Himself was the place (He being the Temple of God) that He was going to prepare after His Ascension and Pentecost, His Spirit indwelling believers.

Ivory palaces inaccessible without Jesus’ death, but made accessible as Jesus
sits in His Father’s throne: I think I’ve said this correctly.

“HE MUST GO, or He cannot RETURN. His first advent with bitterness and shame
makes way for His second advent of glory and power. He goes to prepare a place
for them in His Father's House. That is the goal and Jesus is the Way to that blest
abode.”

“The holy, heavenly Man, Christ Jesus, dying on a cross for sinners, has
opened the door of heaven to men who believe. They come into possession
of a heavenly life from the Last Adam, the heavenly Man, and are thus
eligible to inherit a heavenly home. They are being made ready to enter
into those mansions of glory, those ivory palaces as they journey here on
earth reposing and progressing in the path of faith, growing up into Christ,
conformed to His death, that they may be also in the image of His resurrection
Phil. 3:3. No doubt these heavenly mansions refer to our glorified
bodies which will be like those of the Lord Himself.”

This thread was moved out of Apologetics to here. I will restate the topic and OP in a different form in the Apologetics forum.

Best wishes here.
