My New Computer Build

2024 Website Hosting Fees

Total amount
$905.00
Goal
$1,038.00
My current computer is approaching 4 years of age, so I decided now was the time to build a new one. This build is slightly different in the aesthetics department because for the displays I'm looking at using 3x22" backlit LED HDTVs instead of standard monitors. The aesthetics will be steampunk due to the custom mount for the displays. The base and rear monitor supports will be made from oak with piano hinges. The front area of the base will be oak 1"x3" with a Victorian style chair rail mouldings.

This is the list of the hardware I've picked out.

NZXT M59 case

I'm thinking about using Krylon Brass Metallic spray pain to repaint the case. I'll make a pattern that is the same as the chair rail moulding and use 18kt Gold Plate Krylon spray paint for the pattern. I haven't decided on adding silver to the case yet.

Since there is a huge side window I'll being doing a faux stained glass of the Archangel Uriel. I'll be using a picture of a Medieval stained glass window of Uriel. I attached the picture of the window. One of the changes I'll do to Uriel is to make his wings white/gray instead of red.

Thermaltake TR2 500W PSU

ASRock 990FX Extreme3 AM3+ motherboard

AMD FX-4170 4.2GHz Quad Core cpu

Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3 1500 RAM

Lite-ON Blu-ray Burner

I'll be transferring my Diamond Multimedia ATI Radeon HD6670 2 GB video card and my dual 500GB SATA HDs to the new system.

Comments and suggestions are welcome.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I would be using white LED string lights and case fans for illumination inside the case.

I'll be starting it as soon as I get the parts in the next couple of weeks. It shouldn't take me too long to finish it. The long part will be making the faux stained glass and patterns for the gold faux etchings.

Sadly, my brother, I'm not going to be able to sell it to you. :sad

I was looking at this for the moulding around the monitors.

It does and I can easily make a pattern off of it. The pattern then would be for the faux gold paint around the edges of the computer case.

I'm looking at staining the wood a nice deep cherry color. However, I want to age the wood to make it look like it's from the 1890's.

This might take you quite a long time. Housing isn't an easy work to do.

You need to consider a lot of thing: dimensions, temperatue, nature of the material of the housing, fasteners and all those boring things.

At the end you might be gettting a 100kg stuff :lol

But do not give up.

Goodluck

True, but the extent of my modifications to the actual case is just painting it. Maybe two or three days for the paint to dry. The window might be two to three days or longer depending upon how much work it takes. The housing for the monitors won't take much to build since it's just a basic swing arm in the back attached via a 1.5" wooden dowel to the stand. The face for that won't take much to build either. The killer part is the lipstick and mascara ie the staining and finishing.

Thanks! I will post pictures as I build this. :)

Hee, hee :lol My old desktop upstairs is about 10 years old, although I did replace the motherboard and upgraded the memory already. It still can run the newest version of Linux, but even then I can hear it's slowing down, and the adobe flash does not work since the video card is 10 years old I'm figuring that its something with that (Adobe has some issues with Linux they refuse to fix, so I'm assuming in my case it's hardware that their software won't deal with). I'm thinking of building a new computer soon. This lap top is a Dell Inspiron that's 6 years old and runs Linux Ubuntu just fine.

Well, you know the answer to that. I don't have to repeat myself. But if people don't heed the gospel so-to-speak :biggrin then they should not complain when the bad comes along.

After my last scan I saw (i'm not kidding) over 400 malware nonsense. They won't just go.

Time to format everything and lose all data:bigfrown

where are you, Ubuntu? Wait until I come :):)

If you want all of your virus problems done away with, buy Bit Defender, or you can also try Vipre. And download Comodo Firewall the free version is still number one. But Bit Defender does not play around, and it is the only one that Microsoft recommends outside of their Virus program. Bit Defender beats them all. And for a standalone anti key logger get Zemana, even though Bit Defender has one, I use Zemana anyway. and for computer theft download Lock It Tight and if you have a camera on your laptop you can turn it on through Lock It Tight on another computer and see who stole your computer and locate it by GPS, they have a free version as well and it works..

Thanks man.

I will also try these.

I'm glad that you like Linux, but I absolutely hate it. No one can put their act together and get drivers that work for my video card. Plus, I happen to like my Windows games. ;)

Three simple ways to avoid getting viruses on a Windows machine.

1. Don't go to websites you don't know and don't have the webpage to be able to run javascript/active x.

2. Have great protection like Avast! Anti-Virus, Spybot Search & Destroy, and Ad-Aware. I have used these three for over a decade and have yet to get a virus.

3. Do not download anything from a place you do not know. If you do download it always run it through a virus scanner.
