I'm glad that you like Linux, but I absolutely hate it. No one can put their act together and get drivers that work for my video card. Plus, I happen to like my Windows games. ;)

Three simple ways to avoid getting viruses on a Windows machine.

1. Don't go to websites you don't know and don't have the webpage to be able to run javascript/active x.

2. Have great protection like Avast! Anti-Virus, Spybot Search & Destroy, and Ad-Aware. I have used these three for over a decade and have yet to get a virus.

3. Do not download anything from a place you do not know. If you do download it always run it through a virus scanner.

Thanks too

Option one :shocked
I'm a Java person :sad

You use a windows PC for games? If you like Windows gaming, then why not an x-box? We're talking PC's here.

As for the virus advice, it reminds me of medical advice on not getting heart disease. Watch your cholesterol, watch your saturated fats, no salt, and exercise till you drop. And people have been doing this and are sicker than ever.

Likewise, I've done all the Microsoft stuff --- watch what you go on, don't open attachments, use avast, update. Been there, done that. No help. I can understand Classik's frustration. But there's a time to admit that this OS was created to get viruses by design, and the issue I have with Microsoft is that using it seems to be unspoken permission to let others control your PC. I also think it's time to admit that, much like politics, we've been bamboozled and it's time to switch. 20+ years of virus issues is waaaaaay too long to not know how to fix it. Something else is up.

PCs are made for gaming and are superior to any console out there. I personally hate consoles for pretty much every type of game I play like RTS, FPS, Sims, etc...

I'm pretty happy with Microsoft products because I can get drivers I need right when I need them. If and when Linux can get drivers out there in a reasonable amount of time then I'll think about switching.

You like Linux and that's fine by me, but I do not. Please respect my decision for sticking with what I like.

Windows is a great OS, but it is prone to attacks and that is for sure. But it is a fantastic OS. I do want a Mac though. And one thing is for sure it is always good to keep a Windows OS around, reason, because most computer stuff on the planet is geared towards Windows, with Apple coming in at a close 2nd. So no matter what I get I will always keep a Windows OS around. I have already tried out Windows 8 trial version, and boy did they make some advances, Windows 8 will be hard to beat. But because Windows is number one, hacks and other criminals will continue to target Windows. But with software like Bit Defender you can stay safe. But Windows 8 security will be pretty good, well of course it won't be up to Tim's standards, but pretty good. But I will always use outside virus protection and disable the virus protection that Windows promotes.

Update: I've ordered all the parts for my new computer and will be getting them in three days. I'll be sure to make a photo journal of my progress with the mods. I've decided to get 3 24" 1080p LED HDTVs for displays. :biggrin

Well I picked up 3 24" Mag Ultra Slim backlit LED monitors today. I found out that my Radeon HD 6650 video card wouldn't do Eyefinity well, so I had to get an HD 6850. I swapped out my 6650 and the older, smaller LCDs for 2 of the 24" ones. I can definitely tell that this will make a huge difference in my new computer.

I stopped at Lowes as well to get the stuff needed for the three display mount. I still need to get the major pieces of wood, but I got the dowel, stain, varnish, hinges, and sand paper. I'll probably get the rest tomorrow sometime.

The computer parts for the new system shipped out today so I'll get them on Friday. I love Newegg's 3 day UPS shipping.

I got my new computer case today. I started work on the monitor stand with the help of one of my best friends. I took pictures of the build so far and here they are.

Stained and still not assembled.

We got so wrapped up in building the stand that picture taking was forgotten about. We just have to go over with polyurethane varnish in two coats then final assembly. The small blocks are for attaching the facing to the arms.

Today, my best friend applied two coats of polyurethane and we got the case painted with a hammered copper spray paint. I did take photos of the case as we painted it. Right now, we're waiting for the first coat of paint to dry before applying a second coat and the polyurethane.

Here's what the case and the stand look like with their custom finishes.

I think that the hammered copper finish looks really good on the case and gives the appearance of a smaller version of an antique copper firebox.

The case just needs to have the faux stained glass effect done and it will be finished.

Tomorrow, my friend and I will put the monitor stand together. The only thing left for that is to put on the face with the trim. More pictures too come. :biggrin

I got my new system built, but I have to redo the stand's arms. The only other thing to do is the faux stained glass on the side window. It'll be awhile before I can get to it because I have to catch up on my school work.

All of the parts scream in games and the triple monitors have made me more productive in doing school work. I have the monitors set up in eyefinity mode, so it's pretty unreal to see 180 degrees to the front.

Great job :clap

Did you apply the de-insctoholes thing? Very important.

A friend of mine is doing the faux stained glass on the side window. He's working on it now. We decided to go with another angel since it's an actual stained glass and it's easier to copy onto the window.
