Hopefully this fits here...

I just got my website for my art back up and running! I'm a struggling artist, if you guys didn't already know from my profile. (Actually, to be more exact, I'm now struggling to continue doing art now that my other "supporting" job is taking too much time) Anyways, if you're interested in oil paintings, go ahead and check it out! (Unless you have a Mac, apparently it doesn't work on Macs. I have to fix that still...:-? )

http://www.craighyslop.com

Now my full name is out there in internet land... yikes! Oh well.

You are a very talented artist and do the Montana landscapes very well. It made me lonely for the days when I would just drive just to drive. One of my favorite stopping spots was on the Montana / Idaho border on I-90. (Lookout Pass) and I'd just gaze across Idaho and into Wa. state... If it was spring or early summer, I'd hike a bit up the ridge just to throw some snowballs! :biggrin

Me and a friend planned, but never followed through to take a summer and hike the keys... Have you done much hiking?

Craig, thanks for sharing this. I enjoyed browsing your gallerys. I couldn't see all the paintings, but the ones I did see were a beautiful representation of His creation. Thank you, and the Lord bless you. I loved the portraits, btw...just excellent.

Lovely

Thanks!

Glad you both like them. I sometimes wonder why the paintings dont show up well on other people's computers. I wish I could fix that. What kind of problem were you having lovely?

Jeff, That MT/ID border is awesome! I'd like to spend more time around that area. Great scenery for painting.

I do like to get out and hike when I can. Mostly shorter stuff. I have a portable easel that I like to bring along so I can paint. Haven't been out much lately though, its a little cold.

Where are the keys? Florida keys you mean?

I know what you mean by cold! brrr!
But yeah, there's just something about Lookout that really attracts me. I've always loved the mountains and spent some time camping under pine trees or old army tents. On the way home, I'd always stop and fill up a bottle of fresh mountain water from the creek. Man, Ice cold and sweet as honey. (that's an expression meaning that it was goooood  )

Anyway, the Keys are in the bitteroot and it's tracked by the mountain ranges. If you do a google earth on Missoula, go north and it's the big mountain range that runs east and west for I'm guessing maybe 80 miles? Hey, I was a teenager when we planned it and it's hard to picture the map in my head :biggrin

Anyway, I know that the Keys are outlined on a map, but the only "montana Keys" that I could find online was this link.

Craig,

I could see the titles on some, but the painting would not appear when I moved my cursor over them. You know what, though, tonight I could see them all...I wonder if I had a problem loading them or something orginally? I don't know, but I couldn't see all of them until today. I just love them.

The Lord bless you.

lovely, Great! I'm glad they came up. I think it does take awhile for them to load on some connections. I guess I can't fix that, I like the little "fade in/fade out" thing

StoveBolts, I've skiied at Lookout pass!, I guess I ski more often at Lost Trail, which is south of Missoula in the Bitteroot, its pretty their too!

I know which mountains you are talking about now. I'm always amazed by the trees over there. I guess it might be because I live in the Southwest section and we have less trees here. Google earthed it too. I bet there are some amazing views from the top of them. Especially looking into the Mission Valley.

That's so cool that I met sombody who actually knows where I'm talking about! :biggrin

I used to drive truck and passed through Montana a lot. I never really got into skiing, but most of my friends that were into it big time always went to B.C.

One of the prettiest drives I think is up lo-lo pass. I recall one winter night when there was a Bull Moose and his big girlfriend. Had the road blocked for almost an hour till they decided to get out of the way... Not sure if you've heard or not, but don't honk your horn at a Bull Moose when there is a female around... it can get real ugly real fast I've been told.
Man are they BIG!

As far as views, I spent some time in Cusick Wa and later, I used to go to the top of this one big mountain on the old logging roads (by Usk, to Sacheen and Jump off Joe, then it turns into logging road past Clear Lake which is at the top of a mountain.. the lakes are connected through volcanic caves) and you could see all the way North to BC, All the way East to Lookout Pass, All the way south to the Palouse (roving grain fields) and West to the Columbia Basin.
It's indescribable...

You guys are going to have to stop this, you aren't helping my constant battle with mountain fever.
We stayed up in the mountains for a week last summer, and I did not want to leave. It would be very easy for me to relocate to the hills and live like the wilderness family.

Heh, yeah destiny... it is nice being in the mountains. I definately feel blessed in that respect. The only thing is, they are usually pretty cold in the winter!

Hey Stovebolts, I've been up north of Spokane and thought there were some really pretty areas there too. I believe one of the places was called "Green Bluff". No really big mountains, but I'd like to go there to paint sometime.

Ok, good night Mary Ellen

You were supposed to say, "Good Night John Boy" :-D Havn't ya ever watched the Waltons?

Just kidding lol, Got stuck working midnights again... hence my warped sense of humor lol.

Veritas,
We used to go strawberry picking at Green Bluff when I was a kid and my Aunt used to live on the top of Mt. Spokane. As a matter of fact, if you keep going on hwy 2, make a left at hwy 211 and head on up North to Usk (grandma's from Usk and we used to go to the Pow Wow's), I went to school at the next town up 9th and 10th grade (Cusick, it's not really on the map, but it's about 5 mi. north of Usk)
Actually, if you want to have fun with Google, go north on 20 till you hit Ruby, just north of Ruby, you'll see Reynolds Creek. Make a left on Reynolds Creek (it's all dirt road and if you make a right, you'll be in the river  ) Anyway, take that up the mountain side until the road splits and that was the paramiter of the ranch I was at for two years. It's Awsome up there.

Tracking back to Usk, Go over the river (east) and follow the road North up the mountain to North Skookum. From there, the road aint much better than a logging road. I didn't see it on Google Map, but there's a lake almost to the top of the mountain called Clear Lake and it's fly fishing only. It's cold year round and in the 50's, they couldn't find the bottom according to Grandma. It's said that sombody drowned at clear lake and a few years later they came floating up in Skookum perfectly preserved. But anyway... ;-) Keep going past clear lake, and ya better have a beater cause the road gets really rough. Go to the top, and you can see Canada, Montana, Palouse and the Columbia basin perfectly.

Ohh, the best huckleberry picken is up on that mountain! :biggrin

I thought, 'good night mary ellen' was a nice way of telling me to mind my own business

If not then, "Good night John Boy'!

You too, Jim Bob

Ohh man, ... I am sooo tired! Sorry Veritas for stealing your thread, but man am I tired. But what a pretty view I've got right now! The sun has just went down, and I'm at the top of the RenCen in Downtown Detroit looking across the river into Windsor as the Coast Guard Ice Breaker chugs along.

Where I'm at.

It's not a mountain, but it'll have to do

Nite nite ya' all :fadein:

Hey Jeff

Those pics remind me of a few days I spent in Detroit quite a few years ago and I got a lovely night shot looking back to Detroit from Windsor.

I must see if I can dig out the pic I took (in the archives somewhere) and post it. This could take a while :-?

That would be cool if you posted them. Although I'm feeling kinda bad about hijacking this thread... so you'll have to post a new thread.
BTW, I got that "spectacular' view again Friday nite.. I was sooo mad!!! I was supposed to go home at 3pm for my son's 8th birthday party. Instead I get called on an emergency (saving sombody's rear end because of their poor planning) and didn't get out of there until almost 7 pm (then the almost two hour drive home). I was livid! :x

Hey Jeff,

Those are some nice pictures! I like to think that God's creation can be revealed in man made things too, not just mountains. After all we just move His stuff around a bit, and His light shows it! :)

And don't worry about hijacking the thread... I don't mind at all.

Thanks for sharing those places north of Spokane, its neat to hear about it! I'll have to find some of my pictures that I took around there...and post them.

Craig
