Alright members in good standing, we need your help.

I've been around since 2004 and I've watched our TOS grow and be used to counter certain undesirable conversations. As a result, without the proper context much of our TOS can be misunderstood.

Let's also be honest. How many people actually read our TOS? It's long and boring and without the history behind some of it, it is easily misunderstood and applied.

So here's the deal. Both JohnDB and I are asking for your thoughts and participation to start fresh with everyone having a say, and everyone understanding the spirit in which the new TOS represents.

Here are the guidelines.

Much like our current TOS, it will be broken in two sections. First is a summary, second goes further in detail.

1. All changes will be approved by the current Admins.
2. All submissions must include a very short, concise paragraph and include scriptural support as well as a detailed version no more than a paragraph.
3. All TOS should be in agreement with our Community Message and Staff expectations.

The goal of the TOS is not to restrict conversation, but rather how to guide the discussions that take place in a manner that compliments our Community Message.

If you havent read our Community Message or Staff Expectations in awhile, please refresh yourself to help us make this a beacon of light for not only Christian's across the world, but also to show the world that WE are deciples of Christ Jesus our King by the love we share toward one another as outlined in 1 Corinthians 13.

I will create a second post that staff can use as a draft for our final version.

TERMS OF SERVICE
(ToS)

ChristianForums.net aspires to provide a place where Christians can come together in fellowship for encouragement, inspiration, and strength to help build each other up and grow in our walk of faith through honest and open discussion, study, reflection, and prayer.

The CF staff team uses the ToS as a basis for how this community is run. Our aim is to treat members fairly and, in the event of difficulty or dispute, to give them the best chance to remain members before any action is required. Your cooperation is appreciated. Here are key things to remember, which will be much more effective than any rules we can make up:

John 13:35 (All references use NKJV)
“By this shall all men know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Luke 6:31
“And just as you want people to treat you, treat them in the same way.”

Philippians 2:3
“in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.”

1 Corinthians 6:7
“it is already an utter failure that you go to law against one another. Why do you not rather accept wrong? Why do you not rather let yourselves be cheated?"

If all else fails, this is the action that will be taken:
Matthew 18:15 - 17
“Moreover if your Brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained your brother.
But if he will not hear, take with you one or two more, that “by the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.
And if he refuses to hear them, tell it to the Church. But if he refuses even to hear the Church, let him be to you like a heathen and a tax collector.”

That means PM (private message) a member to settle an issue rather than publicly feuding. If that doesn’t work, start a new PM that invites both the other member AND staff. After all that, do we still need rules? Maybe so. Here are some basics:

  • Members must be at least 13 years of age. Users who are found to be under the age of 13 will have their account disabled until they meet this criteria. ChristianForums.net does not maintain permission records from parents.
  • English is the acceptable language since most persons in other countries speak English.
  • As a member of ChristianForums.net, you agree to abide by the Terms of Service, and you stipulate that you understand the disciplinary process in response to violations of the ToS
  • To contact a member of the staff:
    Click on their name
    Click on Start a Conversation

    BEHAVIOR

  1. Give other members the respect you would have them give to you:

1.1 Address issues/ideas, not the person. Do not insult, post derogatory opinions, belittle, discredit, or create a hostile environment. Do not make inflammatory remarks, do not make remarks to affect others negatively.

1.2 Do not misquote or misrepresent another member. Do not disrupt the flow of the conversation, respect all members as to where they are in their spiritual walk.

1.3 Do not post your opinion of another members standing in the Christian faith. Judging someone’s soul is not Christ like; only they and God know their relationship with God. This includes collective beliefs and groups in general.

1.4 Do not discuss other members by name, with whom you have a disagreement, in a thread in which they are not participating, thus putting them in a position of having to defend themselves in a discussion is which they have no desire in which to participate. This item may be waived by the staff if it is deemed to be in good-natured fun.

1.5 Always tag a member that you mention in any thread.

1.6 Foul language, pornographic, sexually offensive or explicit material is prohibited. Violent material is prohibited unless it relates to a news story.
This includes words purposefully misspelled or alternate use of characters. Staff will determine acceptability at its discretion.

1.7 No trolling. This is defined as posting simply to get other people to "dance for you;" to elicit a reaction for no good reason.

Just saw this.
I can tell you right now that I don't care for the way the beginning of the TOS refers to the more detailed part....for example, it'll say:

1. .............................................................(TOS 2.10)

Or something like that.
Why can't it just be bullets that say what you want to say and make it shorter somehow.

I'm sure the posters will be at a disadvatage because we don't know all the rules you wish to keep or abolish (out of non-necessity).

Let's scrap the whole thing and start new as a community. If that means changing the format, ok. If there are items in our current TOS we want to bring over, I'm good with that.

Main thing is it lines up with our Community Message.

What are we supposed to do??
Type out something we like and send it somehow?
On this thread?

Would the numbering be
1
2
3
?? Or do you prefer something different?
Then...like Windows...1.1 would mean a slight change to 1.
(If necessary).

Tbh, I sort of like the way the terms of service is now, it keeps the forum running smoothly. However, if anybody has some new ideas I sure would like to hear them and discuss them. :)

We should keep the ordering imho.
Top number is a catagory and versioning is within said catagory.

1. Mattherw 18, conflict resolution
1.1. Send member PM
1.2. If not resolved, invite friend.
1.3. If still not resolved, make it public. (Raises question, where? Create a new forum? Etc)

Catagories would be listed in order of importance.

I like that, if anybody has any grievances towards other members it still shouldn't be out where everybody can see it though so maybe a new forum that only the two fueling members can see??? Mostly my general rule of thumb is if it's not broke why fix it? :shrug I spend more time on here than anywhere else online and that's the honest truth. However, sometimes a bit of change is a good thing.

Yes, you two will get along well lol.

LOL! We already do. :wink In fact as of right now it is extremely hard for me to think of members I don't like. Honestly I can think of a few, but for the most part everybody is extremely awesome! :thumbsup In fact some of my best friends on here used to be my enemies lol!

Of course, hopefully I didn't jinx it when I said that we don't get too many trolls,.. however I do believe that is because we have a GREAT staff!! :clap:clap:clap There isn't anybody currently on the staff team that I don't like! Great job guys! :thumbsup

I don't even understand grievances with other members. Is this kindergarten or what? I like to speak to everyone, but some are on such a high horse they can't even hear you but expect you to hear them.
So, I avoid them. I agree with you in your last paragraph.

Let's see if we can get this done!
I used to be an exec. secy. I can do it all!!!!!
Well, at least I used to be able to.
LOL

OK SB,
BUT, what are the logistics?
HOW is this done? Do I write on here?
Do I write on Word and then attach it somehow?
Tell me because I'm ready to go....

Instead of making a summary, which is long in itself to read through why not just go straight to the ToS. Personally I see nothing in the ToS that needs to be changed. It does seem like a long list, but sometimes it takes a long list to detail everything.

The ToS serves as the rules and regulations of the services provided for a Christian forum to maintain a good flow between the brethren and those who know not Jesus yet that are searching. There is nothing unbiblical that I can see within the rules as each one can actually be found within the scriptures.

If it's not broke then why try to fix it.
