The essence of, John 14:20,
is to pinpoint vividly the purpose of the Day of Pentecost. Once again we hear Jesus explaining the purpose of the Holy Spirit by what would happen on that day.
In John 14:20, Jesus focuses the entire plan of God to the believer receiving the Holy Spirit and anchors it all to the happenings on that day. Jesus says that on that day, the Day of Pentecost, the believer will know something.
Now here is where the new creation believer is demanding the true Gospel. Jesus did not just say the believer would receive something or the believer would receive power or the believer would become someone within himself.
What He plainly says is that the believer will come to know something. It is so sad that so many who claim to experience a baptism have never come to this knowing.
But look further, Jesus said the thing believers would know is that as He was in the Father, so would they know that He was in them and that they were in Him. What a revolutionary statement, a statement that Satan has generally kept away from most believers.
The modern Church has not really understood Pentecost and the Father’s purpose on that day. Jesus plainly says that the essence of the Pentecostal experience is a believer coming to the revelation that Christ is his only life.
The new creation believers will not be denied this part of the Gospel any longer. There is only one work of grace, the birthing of the Father. But the strategic ministry of the Holy Spirit is to make that birthing continuous and ever-growing.
The Church, the true Church of Jesus Christ is a formidable weapon of God against the forces of Satan.
In fact, I see the Church as the major force to perpetuate and make known the Word of God.
However, it is because of this that Satan’s major attack, aside from the individual believer, is against the Church.
Satan works at causing division, bringing schisms, confusing the Word that is preached and, finally, making the Church a laughing stock.
There is little wonder that there are probably more saints truly born again outside church buildings in America than inside them.
Notice that I said church buildings. Sad to say, many believers have come to believe that a building is the Church. In fact, so many are being deprived the true Gospel so much that, through the erroneous preaching of the day, buildings have become a spiritual criterion.
Preacher after preacher has made a new building, or the next building to
build the essence of the gospel.

Your thread is so very true my friend Soul man. Particularly this statement of yours....

What He plainly says is that the believer will come to know something. It is so sad that so many who claim to experience a baptism have never come to this knowing.

Unfortunately, in the Pentecostal circles that I've traveled is those who long for the Baptism in the Holy Ghost are really wanting the gift of tongues. That is so sad because they are stopping right there and not progressing into what your thread is all about.

The Baptism in the Holy Spirit is really all about being Baptized into the ministry and work of the Holy Spirit. There are so many lazy Christians that don't actually want to work, they only want tongues so that they feel included in any group, that's all.

Hi,
I am at the very early stages of learning about tongues, other spiritual gifts, etc. As my church did not teach this.
If churches are missing the point, what can we do as individuals? How can we make sure we don't miss the point?

Thanks.

There is not much you can do other than to bring it up with your Pastor. But if it goes to the extreme of, "If you have not the gift of tongues, you are not saved," it has gone beyond scripture and into the territory of the deceiver and that is what scares most good Christians about it. My Pastor prays in Tongues in his Prayer Closet and he be Baptist. It is one of the Spiritual Gifts nut Paul teaches it is the least of the gifts and man has, without God promoted it to the gift of salvation or the evidence of Salvation. Satan his methods for twisting good into evil. Just make sure that all you do is to edify God and not yourself.

Hi David, thank you for your comments. The moment you believe you are placed (baptized) in Christ.
It is an act of our Father to literally birth His Own children, by Christ (the seed of God) in them.
Most of my Doctrines and Philosopy have given way to understanding Christ as the life of the believer.
As the message of Christ as life grips the believer, nothing else matters. The HolySpirit is the only one that can fix this in believing humanity.
His main ministry is to bring a sinner to Christ, and a teacher of the Christ-life to the believer.

Oh, and DavidC, do not allow any human being give (a.k.a. teach) you the training of how to speak in tongues! If God intends for you to have that gift, neiter you nor Satan could prevent you from breaking out rambling it out. Remember, when Peter spoke and everyone heard him in their own natural tongue, my man, Peter thought he was speaking his own natural tongue. What happened there was a real miracle.

Thank you for the advice. I was guvrn a book about speaking in tonguesm it was written by a pastor and very helpful.
It seems like there are those chirches where everyone will speak in tongues at the same time, but this doesn't seem to be Biblical, there should be one person at a time and an interpreter.
I have heard this and can clearly see soewking in tongues can be faked easiky, then there are all the crazy stuff going on like barking like dogs and rolling around all weird.
I guess satan tries mimicking everything God does and hopefully we all have enough discernment to tell th3 difference.

Amen! And from when I was an atheist I have been able to fake speaking in Tongues and your right, Paul taught that no more than two or three and there must 'always' be an interpreter. God bless brother.

I don't want to make a broad sweep of churches, but I have heard many times there are churches squishing the gifts and I am not just speaking of tongues.
I also don't want to steer this thread off topic.

Neither do I but this is a Bible Study and I don't feel it is off subject and if te Mods feel it is they are not bashful and will say so.

As new creations, although I do not speak nor pray in tongues I must never look down on anyone that is a tongue speaker because it is scriptural anjd I do not know the date for Tongues to vanish. (1Cor. 13:3) the Darby Literal version reads:
Love never fails; but whether prophecies, they shall be done away; or tongues, they shall cease; or knowledge, it shall be done away.

So some have translated this to say tongues have ceased, I can't get to that point from the scripture, I can see there is that possibility but I an also see where the opposite is arrived at from the literal translations.

The New Creation we have become must go to our LORD and then work in or on what the Spirit leads us to do and at the end, God will judge. But the New Creation is led to work hard to live a Holy Life. Failing because, like the Roman Punishment for murder, the victim, i this case, the Old Man, is strapped to our backs and we will not be rid of it until we Transition into God's presence.
