We are called, each and every child of God, to be part of the Great Commission. If you are sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit, then He will bring people across your path to share Christ with. If you are like me, you have experienced time and time again people who respond with, “Of course I’m a Christian.”

A CHRISTIAN NATION

Many believe that since they were born in America that they are Christians. First of all, history says that this nation was started with the intention that religious freedom would be established with the hope of becoming a Christian nation under God. Sadly, history shows that there has never been a time when the majority of the United States was made up of true Bible-believing Christians.

NOT ALL CHRISTIANS ARE CHRISTIANS

It’s amazing how many cults and false religions claim they are Christians. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints wants to be considered as a Christian church, yet they teach that man, by following Mormonism and going through the temple rituals, can himself become a god.

The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, Jehovah’s Witnesses, want to be considered as Christian, yet they refuse to accept that Jesus Christ is the Son of God but the incarnation of Michael the archangel.

WHAT ABOUT CHRISLAM?

“Chrislam” is the merging of Christianity and Islam. It is neither Christianity nor Islam. True biblical Christianity does not allow for the worship of Jesus Christ and Allah at the same time. It is not Jesus and … you fill in the blank. It is not Jesus and Muhammed, or Jesus and Buddha, or even Jesus and humanism. True Islam would also reject the worship of Allah and Jesus Christ. The goal of Chrislam is to draw Christians away from Christ and His Word and place them under the influence of the Koran.

WHO DECIDES WHO IS A CHRISTIAN AND WHO ISN'T?

By definition, a Christian is one who follows the teachings and lifestyle of Jesus Christ the Son of God. They are His disciples. Ultimately God decides and through His Word so do we. Through rightly dividing the Word of God, we evaluate the fruit and the doctrine of any and all who claim to be a Christian or a Christian organization.

If they get Jesus wrong, it doesn't matter what they get right. He was not just a good man. He was not just a great teacher, preacher, or prophet of God. He was and will always be the Son of God, the second person of the Trinity!

He is the pre-existent One. John said, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” There was never a time when Jesus never was. He is not a created being as taught by the Jehovah's Witnesses.

He's the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and end. He's the King of kings and the Lord of lords. He is the Creator and the sustainer. He is the fullness of the Godhead bodily. He is calmer of the storm. He is the Light of the World in the midst of darkness. He is the Rock that the builder's rejected, the chief cornerstone, the capstone, and the foundation on which we stand. He is my Saviour, my healer, and my deliverer. He is the author and the finisher of my faith. He is my soon coming King.

If Jesus is anything less than that, you, my dear friend, are not a Christian. “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved” (Acts 16:31). Then you can say that you are a Christian.

Jesus put it like this

I know that you do not have the love of God in your hearts.
John 5:42

Many claim to be christian but that means having a distant belief in Jesus,
but not reading the bible or knowing the tenants of the faith, just going along
to services and knowing the hymns.

The problem is we love to join groups, and identify with the group to which we
belong and hope that is enough.

Stepping beyond this to the point our hearts cry "Abba Father", this is a beginning.

I like this...

First of all, history says that this nation was started with the intention that religious freedom would be established with the hope of becoming a Christian nation under God.
Actually, history tells us that Britain's American colonies rebelled because of economic oppression. (As in the slogan "No taxation without representation.")

Most of the colonies were begun as commercial enterprises in the hopes that the members of the founding organizations would become wealthy.

The Salem colony was begun so that the Puritans could worship in freedom but they kicked out anyone who would not commit to worshiping according to their teachings. That's who founded the Providence Rhode Island colony; exiles from Salem.

The founding of the colonies and the rebellion against the King of England being based in a desire for religious liberty is actually, a Christian myth. It just ain't so.

Here is the text of the Declaration of Independence.

You will not find a reference to freedom of religion in it.

Neither was freedom of religion in the original Constitution; it was added as the first amendment of the Bill of Rights which were added to limit the power of the central government.

Jus sayin'

Great post.

Interesting how spiritual the word of God is.
How long does it take to read 4 chapters and then take in the contents?

So any group can easily persuade their members they are speaking the truth if
the take selected samples and excuse the rest and the others do not seek God and
the truth out. Because it takes real faith to pursue God and find His will.

I read a thread for instance where people demoted the importance of baptism, to
a minor point. Except Jesus commands us to baptise people,

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them
matt 28:19

the apostles preached repent and be baptised,

Repent and be baptized Acts 2:38
Those who accepted his message were baptized Acts 2:41

so it should not even be an argument.
But we live in an age where quick simple solutions dominate and actually working
things through thoroughly is not deemed very highly.

And if the words of God contradict the speaker, it shows the confidence of the listeners
is miss-placed, which is often a hard thing to face.

Another example was Stephen preaching to the Sanhedrin.

At this they covered their ears and, yelling at the top of their voices, they all rushed at him,
dragged him out of the city and began to stone him.
Acts 7:57-58

It is amazing what these men had seen. Jesus preaching, His death and claimed resurrection,
the turning of His followers from scared followers to bold believers, proclaiming the walk of
righteousness, with miracles, and 10% of the population becoming believers.

Either these men were going to repent or throw out and persecute these believers and at
whatever cost try and destroy this faith. It was not as if they were being asked to do
anything unusual or not right before them, yet they chose to kill Stephen. Such is the
hearts of lost men, who are hard to Gods word and testimony.

Great post.

When reading Benjamin Franklin's autobiography (I highly recommend it) it was surprising to me how loyal he was to King George... and how the King's attitude and behaviors of what he allowed soured everyone in the colonies.
Where sure there was something akin to geurilla warfare amongst the different denominations (claiming to be a deist was the only way to not take a side) just about everyone was a Christian of some sort.

dirtfarmer here

It is amazing how many different "plans" there are to salvation. Believe and be water baptized, believe and do good works, believe and go into all the world, believe and etc., when Jesus said " He who believe shall be saved". The question boils down to," what are we to believe" that brings salvation? If we believe but are not baptized in water, is there salvation? If we believe but don't do good works, are we saved? How would it be possible for all that believe "to go into all the world"?

Is being water baptized, or doing good works, or even going into all the world, works of the flesh that we do by our own power? Scripture says that it is Christ that works in and through us that is pleasing to God.

I believe that when a person receives salvation that the "old man" died and the "new man" was made alive. This is not a "remodeling" of the old person but a death of the old and resurrection of a new person. Does the "saved" person participate in "office or workplace gossip"? Does the "saved" person talk with the same "innuendos" as everyone else in the office or work place. Is it ok for a believe to say "slang curse words"? When the "old man" is dead and the "new man" is made alive a person will be different. When other observe that times are tough for the believer but they continue to have joy they will begin to wonder and ask, "What is it that make you different?" Then you have the opportunity to tell them about your savior and they will listen.

We all enter our mission field everyday, not just when we abroad.

If it's just by our own power then it is a waste of effort.
Scripture says that it is Christ that works in and through us that is pleasing to God.
Christ does work in us but not like a puppeteer operating a mindless puppet on strings.
The Holy Spirit leads us and we must choose to follow where he leads.
It's a co-operative effort.
We co-operate with God.
It's like a young boy working with his father and co-operating with what the father is doing. We do our part and God does his; that's how a covenant works.

iakov the fool

Jesus never established groups, but made fishers of man.

Ephesians 4:5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

"God's calling" is a key concept here.
The antinomian view is there is no law or morality by which we can judge anything.
Now I have discussed with many of this group, who claim it is slander to suggest they
are antinomian, but the hold they are both sinners with a sinful nature that cannot help
bit sin, are forgiven of this sin as they commit it, and are also perfect, holy and pure, and
are saved no matter what they do or believe after the point of rebirth.

Now this is a bubble theology, and says even in rebellion against God they will be forced
into the Kingdom. I called this a zombie theology, because in this view, even though in
death they claim to be born again, they will worship God and love Him even though their
hearts are cold and dead, and once at some point came to faith, but this will be forcebly
be changed into a saint in heaven. There is literally no example of such a thing in scripture,
rather the exact opposite.

There is a vast difference between this position, and saying I walk with Jesus, but stumble
occasionally, of which I repent.

So if we say Gods calling is to purity and holiness in all we do, then put simply, if we do not
walk this way, we are not following His calling.

For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. 1 Thess 4:7

Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires.
Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.
Galatians 5:24-25

Jesus has called His own, and His own listen to His voice.
"My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.
I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand."
John 10:27-28

Even by allusion it is wrong to think the writings of a man who serves in the Jimmy Swaggart ministry is able to judge any member here by his observations so as to let us judge who among us is in Christ.
