You have gone on a long endeavor to end up at the end of your journey where you have one decision left to make until it is over. You have come to a crossing where there are two doors, One leads to hell, The other to heaven. (And once you open the door you cant slam it shut real quick.) Along with these two doors are one guard at each door. One is a liar (Lies everytime.) The other is a truthteller (always tells the truth.) You do not know which guard is the liar or truthteller and you do not know what door goes to hell or heaven. You are given ONE question to ask only ONE guard. So what do you ask and to what guard?

---For dumb guards---
Ask any of them "Do you have Wings"
If they say "Yes" when they don't go for the next door :)

---Smart-Ass guards---
Ask any of them "What is my name"
Right = Ding (right)
Wrong = Uh Uh (wrong)

See what I did there?

But then your out of questions and you cant ask them which one is the right door. Remember only one question. After you ask either one and you figure which one is the truthteller/liar you would be out of questions to ask and just know which guard is which.

How do you know if they are dumb or smart. All you can see is two guards standing straight up and you dont know if the liar is next to hells door or heavens door. On top of the fact that you dont know their names ;) Remember the objective is to get the correct door not the correct guard.

Correct guard = Correct door

Correct guard = Correct door

No i don't think i was either clear or even mentioned the fact

Correct door = "? Guard"

You have no idea whether the correct guard is with the correct door or not. Now try and figure out the question you would ask :)

K here is how i see it:::

\a/ [DOOR] [DOOR] \b/

So if I asked "A" what my name is and he got it wrong I would open door B
see thats how I think of it imo amirite or do i need :help

How would he know your name? I guess i didn't say thats part of the rules so its allowed, But how would you know that even if Guard A lied about your name how would you know to open door B? The correct door doesn't necessarily correspond with the truthtelling guard. The correct door could have the lying guard but it may not.

I am dumbfounded... but i have heard something similar
But i suppose ill have to sleep on it

Answer:

Ask one guard if the other guard is the one that always tells the truth. If he says yes, he must be lying, because they can't both tell the truth. If he says no, he must be telling the truth, because they can't both be liars.

That may figure out who the correct guard is. But the objective is to find the correct door. Using only one question. You don't know if the liar is in front of the correct door or the wrong door. Vice versa

Well, you could ask a compound question, like "Is he the one who lies, and does he guard Hell's door?"

That's two questions in one sentence...Does that count? :tongue

(If not I'll have to think about it a bit more...)

1 Question.
You defined "That's two questions in one sentence"
Think harder :/

Nope only one question aloud, Doesn't matter if its in the same sentence or not. Still more than one question. But your first idea was nearing it. Just a little off.

This is brainhurting!
I asked everybody on Facebook they dont know!
I wish it was as simple as seeing if they have wings or horns :tongue
