That's true. I do know what bible classes are though. When I said to ask questions and give our opinion?
What I meant was if we had come up with the wrong answer we would admit it and say what we had thought.
Don't worry I won't be spoiling your classes.
Did you change your post before I quoted it?

Most of us have been to small group Bible studies...
These are more seminary style in nature. Like college classes.
There's a more formal structure to these than a small group study.

Hi Tessa
As an Admin, I can see things on the board that others cannot, including when anyone edits a post etc. I dont see any posts that John has edited.

You have some great questions and I'm glad your asking them. I'll do my best to give you honest answers.

First, we only have one teacher lined up, but I am talking with two others.

Not every class will be for everyone and each teacher will have a set of student expectations including homework etc. What we want to avoid is argument. I'm not worried about you one little bit in that area. Your always a breath of fresh air. But I already know that others will disagree. For those members, we will ask them not to participate in classes they ardently disagree with. Again, this is not directed at you. As April has said, I dont think you have a bad bone in your body.

Classrooms should be a place where everyone should be able to ask questions, and the teacher should be able to respond. Nobody should be made to feel stupid for asking honest questions.

This is all one big experiment. Personally, I want a diverse set of classes with different college graduates teaching different subjects. We will most likely make mistakes and maybe this whole thing falls flat on its face. I dont rightly know. But I'm being led to give it a go, and God willing, we will give God the glory.

What I'm led to say here is that Paul said it was safe for him to remind the Church of the basics. Reading this board, it's evident we need some of that!

Plus, the sincere milk of the Word is something that brings Joy, and seeing how someone else puts it always sheds new Light.

So I'm thinking this will need to start out with the basics, and I urge everyone not to think it beneath them. Just that step of humility is likely to pay off big in the Kingdom ...

I know for me, it was later in life (30-40?) I was shown the inductive Bible study method. (Not exactly a great method for songs and poetry...but can be altered sufficiently to work with poetry)

And that opened my eyes to see more of what I was missing out of scriptures on a rabbit hole with no bottom.

Err,.. umm,.. homework??? :eek2Did you just mention homework?? *gulps* you do realize I'm allergic right? That's the whole entire reason I didn't go to college in the first place. Depending on what the homework is and if it's something that I will actually want to do, I might, mind you might still join as long as it's free that is since I definitely am interested in it.

This is one of those "delayed gratification" thingies.
You will get out of the classes exactly with what effort you put into them. So that means that you will have to do the reading and writing to keep up. (And I understand that these aren't exactly on the same level of difficulty for everyone)
But since these classes (at this point) have no fees and give no publicly recognized certifications they are "at will". So do your best.

Alright, it's good that they are free, but that brings to me my next point. I have special needs so is it possible that I can have a teacher who understands that? Because I will have to have material that isn't too difficult for me to understand. I'm talking like somewhere in the fifth grade to seventh grade level here.

If we do this right, you'll have a community to support you!

And considering that you always have questions that we love to answer...
I don't think that you will have a difficult time getting all the assistance that you need.

Ok, it's time for me to fess up as to what I've been up to here. April, I deliberately increased the difficulty level of my replies to you, from like February thru May, just to see what happened. I am the fourth child of two educators, and my 3 older siblings all have careers that are educating others; so I sorta know what I'm doing here.

April, you have at times exhibited comprehension and cognition that goes WAY beyond 9th grade level; and there are times you get stumped with simple stuff. It is completely normal for anyone with any sort of disability to have good days and bad days. When you don't immediately get the gist of my post and I don't try to simplify it for you I'm not being a jerk, I'm prodding you to exert yourself, ponder it, "seek the Lord," praying for insight, and/or hoping someone else on the forum may be able to phrase it in a way that makes more sense to you. Seeing our Lord and Savior work in you this way is unmistakable, and a great Joy!

There is very much a community here that supports one another, and feeds the Lambs as well as the sheep; I'm proud just to be part of it, and incredibly humbled to serve as a mod. Know that you are Loved in the Lord, as a Sister ...

Just an update, but this whole experiment is feeling like it's coming together.

We have one teacher and I've reached out to two outside resources for additional teachers / classes. I've heard back from one of them and we are still discussing the details, so please be in prayer.

Thank you very much even though I don't have a clue what cognition means lol :lol but no, I never thought you were a jerk. I love the Lord too and all of you guys here. :) Sorry for the late response by the way, I've had a million things to do today.

what are the classes?

I'm thinking "Bible 101" will be the name of the first class. (I could be wrong so don't hold my feet to the fire)

There will be more classes and teachers coming as Jeff has said.

We (staff and Teachers) are all excited and putting forward a lot of effort for this grand experiment. We think that it will work.

I would encourage any who wish to participate in this feel free to do so but no whining (I'm just saying this and don't really mean it) when the homework starts. Because at that time... the real learning begins.
