I think racing games would be terrible on a PC but that is only because all the ones I have played were. Do you know of any good ones?

Personally, when I play a game I'm not basing my enjoyment on whether or not it's violent, or how violent it is.
Games, in general, are based on competition. In video games that competition plays itself out in the form of triumphing over the enemy, overcoming impossible odds, gettin' the girl, saving the day, etc. And these themes are rooted in childhood.
As boys, we men would play cops and robbers, cowboys and indians, and "war". It's in our genetic makeup and mental wiring. It's just how God made us. And that has carried over into the video game realm where our fantastical adventures can be brought to life in an astoundingly visual and audible way.
Boys dream of being the hero in a big war, the star quarterback in the Super Bowl, the Top Secret undercover super-sleuth agent that's got all the neat gadgets, cool cars, big guns, and winning personality. And in that we are drawn to games like Medal of Honor, Madden, Unreal, Final Fantasy, and Morrowind.
And because of our insane imaginations, we dream up things like the Borg :robot: and MechWarriors, giving over to games such as Deus Ex and...well, MechWarrior.
And then of course there's the thrill of being able to do something that in real life we would never dare due to either moral, societal, or physical constraints. Enter in Thief, Hitman, and Max Payne.
With that said, I do have my own boundaries which I will not cross. Two examples are The Getaway and Grand Theft Auto (any of 'em, pick one, but especially the most recent versions). In these two games all moral inhibitions and convictions must be thrown aside to participate in the degrading debauchery that is the game itself. From the 'F' word to pickin' up hookers to regain health then killing them to get your money back...it's simply disgusting stupidity run amok. Sure, you can throw an "M" rating on it, but the question is why make that crap in the first place?
Many games made today are not for kids. But that doesn't mean that they're to be regarded as Anti-Christical and blasphemous, leading to school shootings and mental instability.
Violence is not why we love these games so much. It's being able to live out those boyhood fantasies that, before today's technology, were simply...in our heads. Let me tell ya, there's not a lot much cooler than being able to take down the Nazi regime in Medal of Honor without ever breakin' a sweat ;).

all the final fantasy games i've played have had lots of magic in them, including some form of being able to conjure up powerful forces from a lifeforce or from out of nothing to help you fight.
but if you want to play a good solid turn based rpg like that, check out final fantasy: tactics ... it mostly based around regular combat not much magic (from what i've seen)
also you can check out Kingdom Hearts for ps2, it combines disney with final fantasy and the ability to conjure up powerful allies has been changed into the ability to call upon disney characters for help... like summoning simba or tarzan
for n64 a good turn based game like FF series is Ogre Battle 64.
but i've kind of given up most games, especially the voilent ones, i prefer the racing/sports, classic games.... like checkers, solitaire, etc...

Surprisingly, there are even a couple of servers that are very strict in regards to proper conduct (ie, no cussing, bad-mouthing, etc.).

I'm in the same boat for Battlefield 1942. Computer needs a processor upgrade to play it effectively (I've tried with what I got...not pretty). I'm only sportin' a 751mhz Intel Celeron. I got the graphics card for it, just not enough "oomph" in the ol' brain box. RAM could use an upgrade too from 320 to 512. That's the least of my problems in this area, though.

I have Battlefield 1942 and Jedi Outcast for PC, but I haven't played for a while since my computer lost all ability to handle them. Instead I"ve been playing PS2. My favorite games so far have been Splinter Cell and Star Wars Bounty Hunter. I also liked Red Faction I/II.

Gaming is all about escapism, being able to do the things you couldn't in real life. For that very reason I like GTA3 and Vice City. Massive city where you can travel where ever you want, completely non-linear, with all the things you wouldn't do in real life (stealing cars, having gun fights etc).
I saw a study that showed most children can tell the difference between cartoon/animated violence and real violence. Just looking at the screen they say "it doesn't look like the real world" and it doesn't have the same impact. Compared to movies which show real people shooting other actors, blood and explosions made as real as possible (or at least hollywoods idea of what real should be), and this kind of violence had a noticable impact on childrens minds. Of course movies have R18 ratings for this very reason.

First off, I'm a hardcore PC Gamer. Just check out the PCG forums, and you'll see Nahs1l(me) all over. I play RPG's, FPS, RTS, adventure, Third person, and.. just about anything that appeals to me. As for the morals issue, I believe it's two sided. God says that murder is a sin. Games are 1's and 0's, not real people, or guns. There is the issue, of course, that games inspire people to do the real thing, but I won't get into that. If murder is a sin, and you must flee from all evil(sin), it sounds as if we shouldn't play violent games. But.. I really, truthfully, don't know.
