Re: 8.9 magnitude Earthquake in Japan

Thank you for your prayers Pouringrain and Reba. It`s 1:30 AM here and the frequency of the quakes are much worse. They are just one on top of the other almost none stop now, but they are small, nothing like this afternoon. Nevertheless, my husband is stranded in a skyscraper and I can`t get in touch with him so the quakes are a little dissettling. My children are asleep so they don`t have to be disturbed by them though.
Interestingly I thought I would sit down and read Psalm which are always comforting. I just opened my Bible and started reading Psalm 18. It started out nice with "I will love thee, O LORD, my strength.

2The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. 3I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies."

But I got to verse 7 and it said "Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations also of the hills moved and were shaken, because he was wroth"

I just stopped reading and thought "Is this why this is happening? God is mad at Japan because Japan just keeps rejecting God despite all the wonderful mercy, blessings, and kindness God has poured on Japan?"

Japan is truly a blessed nation. Up until recent weeks Japan been the 2nd largest economy in the world, now China has taken the 2nd place position. Japan also has the lowest crime rate in the world and is incredibly child friendly. Not to mention the people have one of the longest life spans. Japan is greatly blessed yet it`s not a Christian nation. I believe it`s blessed because God is always calling the people, but how long will He keep calling and blessing with people continually rejecting?

I don`t know if God was giving me this verse to explain the situation to me or not, but it really stopped me and made me wonder. "It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of an angry God." And earthquakes may be the least of Japan`s worries. I don`t know how many people keep up with Asian news but China has been bullying countries all over Asia lately. China`s been sending military vessels into other Asian nations territories repeatedly as though they are provoking a fight and China is telling these nations the other countries territories belong to China. It is getting serious. The day before yesterday China sent a military helicopter to hover over a Japanese ship, but China is doing this all over Asia and has made a large increase in her military spending. I think China realizes her power and may be preparing to flex her muscle to gain power over Asia.

If only Japan would turn to God, Japan would be safe and shielded, I feel, but without God`s protection, I don`t know what the future will be for Japan. But I do know the future for God`s people and that I can rest securely in.

Thank you Reba for your request and everyone`s prayers. Today is a beautiful day but with great destruction. I know of some people trying to locate their children where the tsunami (tidal wave) hit and are unable and it is really hard because the death toll is rising. My family is all safe, thanks be to God! But I`m going to have to get up and check on my neighbor whose family is from Miyagi (the area hit by the tidal wave). My husband was stuck in his office and could not come home last night because the trains were down. He had it better than some I suppose because he could at least stay inside. Last night was very cold but many were left to sit out in the cold in dirty train stations and on the streets. Fortunately Japan is a safe country so crime was not a problem being out all night, but we continued having smaller quakes throughout the night so that was a problem.

Now it is just time to clean up, grieve the losses of life, and move forward. I have a friend whose ministry is to help minister to people after natural disasters. I have no doubt he will soon be right where the tsunami hit. He has ways of getting in. He even got into China after their quakes and managed to openly teach the Bible! I will contact him and see if I can be of any help to the tsunami victims through him. The tsunami is actually what caused more death and destruction than the earthquake although it is the earthquake that caused the tsunami. Anyway, yesterday was a rocky day, but I am amazed at how big this quake was and so many houses are still standing. It felt like the buildings were going to collapes as they violently shook with the biggest quakes. As much damage is done, I cannot help but see the incredible protection and mercy God had on Japan. I think the damage should have been worse. Other countries with smaller quakes have had much more structural damage and loss of life. I`m simply amazed and grateful.

When you see a massive country that is now the 2nd greatest economy in the world and owns much of America`s debt, increasingly sending ships and planes into basically all her neighbors territories claiming the land really belongs to China and her military budget increases greatly, you know something is up. Americans may think, "well, that`s Asia, it doesn`t affect us", but it does because America has military bases in Asia and the countries China is testing and provoking. China is not a tiny, impoverished country like Afghanistan that can be overpowered. It`s got the power to fight back and it has Russia, Iran, and North Korea as allies if it needs back up support. Basically over Asia, China is the biggest and strongest military nation, and I think Asian nations are now seeing and realizing this. It may eventually come down to joining China willingly or forceably in some sort of Asian Union with China as the head, but praise God no matter how powerful a nation my think it is, it can never be more powerful than God or take God`s headship. God is always more powerful than any circumstance whether it`s a natural disaster or man made.

One last word, there is another concern in Japan as a result of the earthquake, in Fukushima we have a nuclear plant and the tsunami took out the pumps to the cooling system so there is radioactive steam ventilating in about a 6 mile radius. The radiation is 1000 times higher than normal. The people in the area have been evacuated. But this is a serious problem. We also have a lot of people left homeless and still missing so that too is a problem.

Praise God for you and your family's safety pjt!

I've heard on the radio this morning that there's a lot of descruction and fears about nuclear radiation leaks. Japan is certianly in my prayers at the moment. :pray

Pjt, it IS wonderful to hear that you are safe. Thanks be to God. It seems clear that the numbers of lost lives will continue to rise sharply, and like Cornelius, each one of them has a story and people who loved them. The videos are amazingly tragic, but we're so separated here in the U.S., it's like it could be on another planet. The nuclear plant, the oil refineries, the cars looking like toys floating down a massive river... it's like a scene from a Hollywood movie. :sad

Thank you for your prayers Nick and yes Mike even for me who is here, it feels somewhat unreal to see all the destruction. Japan is such a neat and orderly country that all mess just does not look like Japan at all. It`s like it a puzzle piece from a different puzzle has been put in our puzzle. It just doen`t look right.

I did try to contact my friend who does natural disaster ministry and he`s already gone! That`s him, always right on the job out to help both practically and spiritually. He`s a real soldier for Christ! He`ll be in my prayers.

i know that we have bases in japan(okinawa), the korean pennisula.

The latest news is they were not able to cool down the nuclear plant and it exploded. I live close enough to it that we`ve been told to not let any rain touch our skin, to wear masks, and just protect the skin when going out. What can you do? Just make the best of it and pray. I wonder how safe the water is to shower in and drink. I think the first week will be fine because surely the water in the water towers are protected but what happens with the new supply coming in? We are told to boil water and put it in pet bottles. I also wonder if it is good to hang the clothes out on the line, and what about windy days should we even go outside? But the fact is you`ve got to bathe, drink, shop, and dry your clothes so you just have to deal with it and leave the rest to God.

Jason, we have more US bases than just Okinawa, you can see the list here United States Forces Japan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

I read that even California was hit by the tidal wave and it did some damage, and China felt the effects of the quake and has some power shortages so my heart goes out to others who have also been affected by this earthquake as well.

I read that there had been an explosion there and that they feared there may be a meltdown. Can anyone here who knows more about nuclear physics than I do tell us what would be the consequences of a meltdown?

I`d like to know the answer to that too. I have no idea. I`m just taking one step at a time as things happen. We just had another small quake before I started writing so the quakes haven`t ended yet for us, but yes you are correct that there is a fear of a "meltdown" whatever that means.

I just read on CNN's website (edition.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/asiapcf/03/12/japan.earthquake.tsunami.earth/index.html?hpt=T2) that Japan has moved 8 feet (2.4 meters) and the earth has been tilted on it's axis by 4 inches (10 cm). I wonder if that's going to affect the weather all over the world?

I have no idea, but from the shaking we got, I`m not surprised we moved a little bit.

Did the report say which direction we moved? Did we move closer to Russia? North Korea? or into the Pacific?

I am glad to hear your ok, but sad to hear that you are going to have to endure this fallout. I work at a water treatment plant in the US. I know as far as we go, tanks only have enough for a couple of days and that is pushing it. Its amazing the amount of water people use.

I am not trying to scare you, just giving you the facts as it relates over here. I am not sure on radiation entering the water supply itself. It just depends on what they use for their source; lake, river, wells, ocean. I will ask the treatment guys when I get back to work monday, maybe they know more. I am just a 'maintenance' guy.;)

Hang in there, God is good and he will never try you past your ability to bear it.
