I would like to ask everyone to pray for me.I am struggling with a drug and alcohol addiction.
I have started praying and asking the Lord for help.
I know that for the ones who have never struggled with and a addiction it is hard to be sympathetic
or understanding. Please pray for me anyway. Thanks so much!

Will do! One addiction is hard but both drugs and alcohol must be really hard!

The one good thing you have and will always have is that you are turning to God to help who has the power and strength to give to those who put all their trust and hope in Him. Once anyone gives their life to God then He changes our lives continually with the Holy Spirit and gives us discernment/wisdom to all who ask. And I hope that through this wisdom you will know what to do, why you became addictive in the first place, what the right program would be for you to help you get clean and with God's strength you know you can do it.

No temptation has overtaken you that is unusual for human beings. But God is faithful, and he will not allow you to be tempted beyond your strength. Instead, along with the temptation he will also provide a way out, so that you may be able to endure it.
1 Corinthians 10:13

God loves you so much He wants the best for you and wants you to succeed in getting clean so you can get on with the purpose He has for your life. He is faithful even when we aren't and is strong when we are weak - just remember that - put your trust and faith in him.

And if one day seems too long to try to think in getting through it, just try to get through one hour at a time.

This is absolutely true, Mayaggie :yes I can identify with you in several ways personally, and if you are truly seeking God's help you have to trust him, and put it all down. Don't hesitate, don't think about it, don't give yourself the chance to talk yourself out of it becuase you know it only takes a fraction of a second for your mind to convice you otherwise. Just put it down and begin to pray! :pray

If you need to talk feel free to PM me
:)

mayaggie, I know what being caught in a stronghold is, both before I was saved and after. The vital key is in keeping on seeking the Lord and not letting condemnation stop you. You seek Him no matter how condemned you feel, and you keep asking Him to help you to absolutely hate the things you are doing.

Pretty soon, if you don't give up, you will find the pay off from those crutches is weakening and they have less and less hold on you. Satan will try his best to make you feel unworthy to call on God, but you cannot back up a second.. even when you fail miserably. Keep getting up and trying again and again until the Lord sets you free.
One thing the Lord spoke to me about this is, "don't stop seeking me and my help." The key to restoration is found in Him, so stay in His presence and keep asking for His help. You will soon find that the payoff from the drugs and alcohol is no longer there IF you refuse to give up. The mental addiction is the biggy.. once that is broke you are home free as long as you are submerged in Jesus Christ. Again, don't let condemnation or setbacks stop you from pressing forward IN HIM (Jesus our deliverer).

My prayers today too Mayaggie,

I say amen to all the posts here, and I would encourage you to read the Word of God, to put it in your heart so that you can be brought to a love for His ways and a submission to Him. Destiny is so right, do not allow condemnation to stop you...we are not unsympathethic toward you, and all here have understanding in the area of sin, and some specifically with addictions like yours...we love you and are so blessed by your desire to seek God in prayer. The Lord bless you.

I am doing better.I am spending as much time in prayer as i can and watching christian tv and
reading my bible.
I just finished ordering me a new study bible and 3 christian music cds.
The alcohol is still my biggest battle. Please continue to pray for me.

We will do. Thank you for updating us, it's good to know specifically what to pray for. Just one minute at a time and praying through the day not even stopping to kneel etc but to talk to Jesus like He is right next to you (which He is) when you are driving, washing dishes etc, just asking for strength. Jesus knows everything in your life, your thoughts everything so it makes it easier to be really honest with Him - telling Him how you feel and what you need.

He will answer you and bless you as you are putting Him first - He has you in His cradle of His hand and no one or thing can pluck you out of it. He loves you so much.

Mayaggie, It is so true what Ginger said about just taking one minute at a time, stay in that moment right there, just fight the fight just for the very second you are in. Don't think about the past or the future.

I would also suggest you use Scripture like Jesus did, He didn't argue with Satan or Himself, his sure confidence in the Word was His only weapon. When Satan comes at you fight him with positive thinking, knowing that God will see you through it. Remember you have many people holding you up in prayer. You are not alone.

We are still praying and we wont give up! Remember when God does see you through this, you will be able to help others, who are going through the same thing.

I know that for the ones who have never struggled with and a addiction it is hard to be sympathetic
or understanding. Please pray for me anyway.

You don't have to worry here about people not being sympathetic to your addictions... We all know we are sinners saved by God's Grace.

Mayaggie, I am new here so I have not read any other post by you, but if I may be so bold as to ask you about your experience with the Jesus??? :)

I really hope to talk to you again :wave

I will be praying for you.

Hebrews 2:18
"Becasue he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted"

1 Corinthians 10:13
"No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it."

2 Thessalonians 3:5
"The Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen and protect you from the evil one."

Yes you may.I am 39 yrs old and when i was in my twenties i was saved and served the Lord
with my whole heart. If someone at that time would have told me i was going to end up
and alcoholic i would have thought they was crazy.
Anyway, during my walk with the Lord i went thru someone that left me very bitter and angry
with Lord and i walked away from him.
At times i have tried to come back to him.I think my drinking always stands in the
way.I have decided this time i am going to keep trying.I really appreciate everyone's advise
and prayers.
You guys are the only ones i am getting any advice from.

Hi Maymaggie.

I am so excited to hear you are saved! Yeah! I got saved when I was 18 and fell away a year later. I started working at a night club, and some of the things I did I am so ashamed of now... SO I AM NOT GOING TO LET MYSELF THINK ABOUT IT! Jesus died for that, all my sins hung there with Him on the cross. After I had my first daughter I stopped drinking, and drugs, and rededicated my life to God... However, because I had such a negative self image, I soon replaced those addictions with another one, and that is food. It doesn't kill you as fast but it still kills you. I hope you don't mind and it's a little long but I have been sort of journaling my freedom from my addictions and because addiction, is addiction no matter what you are addicted to, I think this may pertain to your situation.
This is an excerpt from it.

If you are addicted, I bet it feels like almost every waking moment is spent thinking about it.
II Corinthians 10:5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.

“Punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilledâ€Â. How do you punish disobedience? By not giving into it. Did you know, once you became born again, you have authority over your thoughts? You are in control, you decide what you think. I know that sounds kind of strange you’ve probably not given your thoughts, well, much thought.
Your addiction needs to become a non-issue, but how?

Philippians 4:4-12 Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!
5 Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.
6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

And this is how you do it. Continue reading in Philippians 4

Meditate on These Things
8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthyâ€â€meditate on these things. 9 The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.

This is a promise, a promise from God. God cannot break His promise.
We need to keep focused on God instead of trying to zone out, when we are giving in to addiction. I admit this was one of the hardest things for me to do. I prayed and prayed for God to give me the answer on how to stay focused on Him, slowly but surely I began to understand you have to live in this moment, this moment right here and right now. Don’t look back and don’t worry about the next moment, keep focused on this second. You can do anything for one second. You can also decide to focus on the right things. Focus on how strong God has made you. How easy God makes it to resist. Imagine saying, Jesus, Satan is at the door, could you get your chariots of fire to answer it. Imagine the door opening to Satan’s knock and his eyes widening with shock at seeing such a sight. Imagine him running away screaming at the top of his lungs. Weather you know it or not your imagination has had a huge influence on you being over your addiction. Imagine you and Jesus “high fiving†with the angels, Imagine victory.

You may not think you have a great imagination, but every time you are tempted, you are seeing yourself take that drink, you can feel it, taste it etc.

When you dwell on negative thoughts you give them power, when you dwell on positive thoughts of Gods power you release His power to walk in victory. You actually limit God’s power with negative thoughts. Psalm 78: 41,42 How often they provoked Him in the wilderness, and grieved Him in the desert! 41 Yes, again and again they tempted God, And limited the Holy One of Israel. 42 They did not remember His power:

To sum it up, capture your thoughts, stay focused, Think positive!

Yes are right.I spend every moment either worrying about my addiction or praying about it.
I am starting to have physical withdraws for the drug i am trying to quiet.
Thank you so much for your advice! and it's never to long.

Our dear Lord, I pray for my friend Mayaggie, I ask that you get her through this hard time, strengthen her Lord. Help her to remember to use her weapons. Let her know you are well able to keep her away from her addictions.

1. Pray
Praying is your first line of defense; this is the hardest part of the battle because it involves defeating your own will, the emotional battle within yourself. The reason it’s so hard is because it’s the only part of the battle where you’re on your own, because the Lord is a gentleman he won’t take your will away you must surrender it.
Suffering and submission are contrary to the flesh. We desire our own comfort over everything else we want it when we want it and how we want it. Where our flesh is alive and living we will have conflict with the spirit. The reason Jesus suffered and died was to restore us to Gods will.
but as soon as you pray God steps in. and your own will begins to die
Read Matthew 21: 21,22 So Jesus answered and said to them, "Assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but also if you say to this mountain, "Be removed and be cast into the sea,' it will be done. 22 And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive."
Sometimes for our own good God requires many prayers to demolish the mountain. This war is won, one battle at a time.

2. Study, read and memorize scripture
Even one will do. Satan is a liar and his favorite tactic is to pervert scripture. He will try to use it against you. (Adam and Eve the temptation of Christ) But the truth (the Bible) is what defeats Satan. Remember when Jesus was being tempted by Satan He fought him with the truth of the Word of God.

3. Be on your guard and stay focused
Satan will not give up with one temptation, no. He tried to tempt Jesus three times. And he argued with Eve until he got his way.
Ephesians 6:10-20 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints-- 19 and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

4. Practice or exercise your faith
The definition of practice is to perform or work at repeatedly so as to become proficient 2systematic exercise for proficiency. The definition of exercise 1Exertion made for the sake of training or physical fitness 2a task or problem done to develop skill! Exercise.
I Timothy 4:7 But reject profane and old wives fables and exercise yourself towards godliness, 8 for bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

Mayaggie, remember this will not last long, this hard part will be over before you know it. Stay in there. Stay in the moment, trust God. If you keep trusting and believing God. You can do this. Through Him you can do anything.

I will keep praying, I won't give up on you, Most importantly, GOD WILL NEVER GIVE UP ON YOU!
Love Kelli

Mayaggie God has put you so much in my thoughts and then it turns to prayers, during the night when I kept waking up you were brought to mind and I kept praying (even in those stupor moment of sleep I know the Holy Spirit interpreted!) I tell you this only for encouragement.

Maybe it is because I am trying to face up to my abuse of food - every waking hour when not eating a meal I am planning my next one. Kelli (who is helping me) has given you great thoughts as well as prayer as all the others who have replied - so you are not alone - all those intercedings :thumb

For loving me;
For giving me power to overcome all temptation and ALL the power of the enemy (Luke 10:19).

Your Word says the enemy can no longer harm me (Luke 10:19) and that when I resist the devil he does flee (James 4:7) so I praise You for freeing me and giving me freedom and power over all sin and addictions.

NOTHING shall harm me or keep me in bondage anymore!
I am free in Christ Jesus,
and greater is He living in me, giving me power and strength to overcome all sin and disobedience. Yes, greater is He living in me, than any devil or temptation that is in the world.

Thank You Father, for not leaving me helpless in this world, but empowering me and setting me free.

In Jesus’ name! Amen.
