I went to see a stand-up comic one time. He said he was a former state trooper from Tennessee and he used some of his personal experiences in his routine. One story in particular I thought was pretty good.
He had pulled a guy over for speeding. When he walked up to the window he asked that usual self-incriminating question, "Do you realize how fast you were going?" To which the driver replied, "Well, I was just trying to keep up with the traffic." The officer said he looked up and down the highway and there wasn't another vehicle in sight. When he pointed this out to the driver he replied, "Just does to show you how far behind I am!" The trooper said he couldn't help it but laugh and didn't have the heart to write up the ticket so he let the guy go with a warning and told him to slow down.

State Trooper pulls over a guy doing 95 MPH.
He says to the driver, "I've heard every excuse under the sun but if you've got one I haven't heard, you are free to go."
The driver said, "My wife ran off with a state trooper and I thought it was you trying to bring her back."
"You are free to go."
