Ok don't pray for Pizza like at Pizza hut - if you want pizza, go make one or buy one! :lol

No, pray for Pizzaguy-Mark! Got a telephone interview tomorrow with a MAJOR world-wide corporation for an engineering position! At age 51, I don't wanna new job, should be settling down... but such is not the case. I FEEL moved, I FEEL as tho it is time to change... and I really would like to try this job. It is such a job that I actually would have a possibility of failing!

And I am FINE with that, I want a challenge, I want change and I feel excited about it all!

Please put a word in for me, for wisdom and His guidance - cause my wisdom really aint' worth much!

This would be the career advancement that I've waited for, for years. But you see, you can't just WAIT for it, ya gotta go GET it. And that is what I did. One week after I sent a resume, they called!

Thanks all!

Good for you! Remember, we're all salesmen. Ask for the business. Ask if you can have a face-to-face interview! If it's a farmed out screening company, ask if s/he will recommend you for a face-to-face!

God's peace during the interview. Let us know how it goes! I know you're going to BLOW THEM AWAY! I'm excited for you, so I'm using lots of !!!!! :lol

It's their "National Hiring Manager" and I get the idea he works for the company. I've been emailing back and forth with HR.

I THINK that this is step one, if I survive it, then I later meet face to face with a Senior RF Engineer... there willl likely be a verbal and even written exam. I'm fine with that! I like taking tests (weird, I know.)

Yea, Im starting to get excited about it. I must say, I FEEL that "Feeling" that makes me believe that this is supposed to happen and is GOING to happen. And it takes faith for me to post that publicly - I usually stay laid back and assume nothing. Got to wondering, is this MY idea or God's? I have reviewed events of the past two years, and I think this is as much God's idea as mine. The office is 2 hours from here, today I found a cabin to rent for $350 a month! They guy can't sell it and lives in CA, talked to him today, his brother and I are friends, and his brother manages it for him.

I could afford to keep my house payments up till I sell or rent, and live up there at the same time!

It's starting to sound like this could actually work.

I just wonder how much they want me to use my Passport. A passport, a VALID one, is required as part of the qualifications. If they expect a lot of international travel, it'll cost them. But they say most of the travel is domestic.

Thanks, All!

Well, that was the most unusual interview I've ever had. In what way? Well, it was comfortable - the are totally easy to talk to.

Turns out, we went WAY farther than I expected. The Senior Engineer was in the room, on the speakerphone as well. They are considering two jobs for me, the one I applied for and one that I considered a "lower" one.

I meet with them face-to-face on the 20th.

Oddly enough, (isn't this how God works?) I was working at a site today and a county employee I"d never met before happened by. He worked for Motorola and interviewed for a similar job at the same company 3 years ago, he turned it down because there was too much travel involved. He fillled me in on a lot of stuff, and I appreciated it. What startled me, and I'm glad I found out in advance, was the starting pay they offered him - almost TWICE what I make now. I wondered if this job would pay that well, he said, "oh yea - they have a TERRIBLE time filling it. People don't like all the travel."

I now know a LOT more about the job, and I have much to think about.
I am very happy and confident now... also, another company I've been talking to called me to meet with them next tuesday.

This means that when I meet with the other company next week, I know about where I stand with the first one...

In the middle of a recession I have three jobs to consider - and I didn't even send resumes to all the companies I was considering!

Ditto what Rhea said. That IS good news, Mark! I'm happy to hear it went well for you, you have your face-to-face scheduled, and another option on the burner. Wouldn't it be ironic if you were faced with the difficult decision of which offer to accept? That can be a toughy, but it's a good toughy as you say, in today's economy.

Good for you, brother! :clap

I made some career sacrifices many years ago for my (then) little sons. "they" said that the Lord would bless me for it... I have been questioning that...

I am questioning no more.

Sure, I don't HAVE a new job, but I have possibly THREE jobs with two different employers and again, there are many places I COUILD have applied, but didn't want to be overwhelmed with interviews. (That sounds arrogant, don't mean it to.)

Much change is coming for me, at 51 no less!

Thank you Lord!

(And I cannot overemphasize the impact of meeting that guy this afternoon. That was, I think, God saying: "Here is some info you can use, also, remember, I am here with you thru all of this." I about fell over when I realized that I met this guy 2 1/2 hours after my interview.)

This has been quite a day, all it took was me getting out there, and about 30 people who were praying for me today! :thumbsup

Had a great face-to-face interview today. 2 hours long. I really thought I'd blown the interview, but they concluded by telling me that they think I'd be a good addition to the team... and want me to come up with a starting salary.

I was unprepared for that question... didn't think we'd get that far TODAY!

AND????? :biggrin This sounds good... I mean, but what do you think about working with a group of people just like you (you thought you muffed the interview and found out you'll fit right in?) :clap

Actually, I've been working with people just like me for 30 years. But this will change that.

The staff was about 20% Japanese. EVERYONE is a professional in conduct and dress - this will be a totally different world, and I can't wait to get there.

I have "accepted in principle" their offer. I am waiting like a nervous teenage boy on his first date for their background/Credit/Crimminal history checks to be finished. I THOUGHT it owuld be done yesterday, but no word.

This will be a LONG weekend, if I pass these tests, a physical and drug screening will be set up. Getting past that, and a written offer will be emailed to me... I sign it, send it back, they sign it - at that point, I will resign and start up there about 2 weeks later.

I believe I could be resigning next week, or the week after... don't know.

I can't help but hear about the mix-ups that cost people jobs. And what do they look for in the credit check? Do they want to see what banks see (which causes me to have had a score as high as 802?) or what????

Not gonna be a relaxing weekend.... I have "The Dragon" next weekend, 65 of my little cars gathering in the mountains for a social and driving event next weekend - biggest weekend of hte year for me... and I can't "get into it". Don't even want to go detail the car (which took four hours last year)....

I just can't relax. Which means, I don't REALLY trust God. No, I do. I'm just .... excited!

Well good for you! :yes I hope you went in (or go in) with a good salary proposal, and with verbal expectations of advancement in pay within a certain amount of time... is there a probationary phase? Oh and I would give your current employer at least 2 weeks' notice, once you have something --employment agreement--in writing in hand from the other. They do check even your credit score (FICO) as a basis for what type of person/personality and some glimpse of what you value. I doubt anything beyond 7 years is considered, maybe not even 4 years. Did you give them references to contact?

May the Lord guide you in your efforts, and even if this is not what His final will is for you, may He quickly show you that.

It could be you will find your dream job through this contact even. I like your attitude. Make sure you aren't expecting too much. It could be just the change you seek...and sometimes a long vacation at the current job is all one needs. God bless!

Sometimes those types of questions have to be asked. :shrug

How to tell? If you're waiting on God and this job falls through...what are your responses? If you're waiting on them and this job falls through... how devastated are you?

Well, the way things have gone, I've become convinced that God is with me in this. So, if it falls apart - what am I left to conclude? Was I wrong, or was this a teaching moment?

I don't want to play the mind games with myself right now. Headed out to continue to ClayBar the car for this weeken'ds gathering.....

This may be hard to stomach, but it's true. You need to negotiate with them once the offer comes. When my position was eliminated years ago, my company hooked me up with a very high end transitional career search outfit. They did everything from stripping down our resumes and building entirely new ones, to learning how to target a certain market, get inroads into companies, interview, and yes - negotiate their offer.

Whatever they offer, you have one short time where they've indicated YOU are the man they want, but you have not committed. They aren't going to pull the offer just because you asking for certain things. The key is, you have to reason out why you believe you should have what you are asking for.

A signing bonus - "The car I drive is a good one, but it's not meant for long distance driving. I could use 10k for a down payment on something more conducive to travel."

I had been laid off for 4 months and they convinced me to be bold. I actually negotiated a sign-on bonus - me! who didn't have a job! I also negotiated an extra week of vacation and a salary increase.

All they can do is check with HR and say no. My hiring manager at my current job told me after I started working that she would have been disappointed if I didn't negotiate with her. It shows drive.

I'm not saying take money from them if you can just for the sake of it, but if you believe you're worth it, then you just need to convince them!

I think Mike has some good advice. To me, the idea is if THEY think you're worth it (and it sounds like they've already tipped their hat that way.)

Go forward in faith. Your attitude and reliance upon God is key, imo.
