I'm throwing this out there. I'm personally caught up in the middle of the opioid crisis due to lingering pain from an automobile accident over 40 years ago. The meds certainly let me manage the pain, but I would much prefer to rely on Jesus. Can you kind souls help? Thank you all.

I went through this myself Brother, so can relate. I had a bad auto accident back in 2009 and broke my back in 2 places. The opioids did great for the pain and let me work a days work...as long as I married them. I didn't like them for the side effects. It was almost like, they blocked the pain...but saved it up for me. When I tried to give the pills a break, the pain seemed worse than it was to start with!

Plus I noticed something else. There's a big social stigma that comes with the prescription of opioids. I started getting treated like a 2nd hand citizen...a drug addict. I made up my mind, I am not staying on those pills for the rest of my life. I refuse to!

So I made a plan. First off, fast to detox my system from them, second, I will ask the doc next month about availability of anything which might be even close to as effective as the opioids for pain but without the side effects. So I started the fast, and was on day four of it when I had to see my doctor for my next appointment. She had me urine tested while I was waiting on her to come in, and she did and said why is there no opioids in your system? I said I'm taking a break from them to clean out my system. I was about to expound on it, but I never got the chance, she started freaking out and talking about how she might lose her license and stuff...and that made me angry. (I shouldn't have got angry), but I did and I yelled at her for being obtuse. She sounded more political than medical. Bad positioning for a doctor who wants the patients to believe that "Patients come first...". I told her I would not be back that she could shove her pain pills and her sub-par treatment of patients...

So I started eating a lot of aspirin, lol. And getting all pumped up on Coffee helps me! My dad needed help about then so I journeyed north to help him, he had been diagnosed with liver cancer and given but a few weeks to live. I did that and after he passed I got the house and his belongings. What is all this stuff my dad has? What is that exercise machine looking thing? So I googled it, and it was an Inversion Table!

An inversion table allows a man to hang upside down, which allows gravity to stretch out their spine/backbone, something many people have never done. It only takes 3 to 4 minutes at a time. At about 1-1 1/2 minutes, my back started popping, stretching out. I got up...and felt a LOT better! No way am I selling off that inversion table!

So in-between aspirin and the inversion table...I have my blessing and my answer to opioids. If you have lower back problems, I urge you to go check out Inversion Tables. I'm sure that they'll have a display model that you can try for a few minutes and see if it helps you. You will see what I am talking about as soon as you get up from it...

It isn't magic, I still can't work a good days work like the young pups can, but it sure makes a difference to me in the day by day...

Thank you, Edward. Great story. I'm not sure an inversion table would work for me, as I don't actually have a problem with my spine or back per se. The pain is everywhere, all my muscles, in fact the diagnosis is Fibromayalgia.

Hmm. Prayer adjusted! ;)

I'm sorry to hear that. That is harsh...What I do know, is...the enemy counterfeits everything from God. So synthetiic opioids are but a counterfeit for something else. How much do you know about herbs? Read up on "Skullcap" and perhaps give it a try...I have found that it's great for general pain...but don't eat it during the day if you have to work or drive because it can put you to sleep! It's heap big medicine, lol.

Buy it in bulk at the herb store, run it through your coffee grinder, and pack it into those clear gel caps that they also sell at the herb store. In a cereal bowl...

Sounds like Edward has some good ideas.
I personally don't see a problem taking the pills if they help.
I believe our pills come from God too.
Will be praying for you.
Do what is necessary.

I'm big into herbs too. I do know there is stuff for this condition. The main rule of thumb is never take anything consistently for 6 months. In fact I don't go anywhere near that long.

Herbs are much weaker than Rx. Nothing compares to the effectiveness of opioids, but I heard a radio program the other day talking about things they're researching; there are some good ideas in development.

My Dad was prescribed Valium through the VA, quit cold turkey after decades and felt much better.

Meanwhile :pray

Hi Kevin, you are in our prayers.
Have you looked into CBD oils? I have read great things about it, as long as the quality is good.

Hmm, interesting. Didn't know about this one. Wonder if I should give a try.

I've tried a few different kinds of it. It is good. The bad part of it is, after your trial bottle for 5 bucks shipping, they try to jack it up to 90 bucks a bottle or so. A bottle didn't even last me a month. Also be careful, somehow in paying by card, they come back and take more money and send you more without an order! I disputed that charge and got my money back. AT 90 bucks for two weeks...buying regular marijuana is a lot cheaper, lol!

Another thing is, two of the places I tried their sample bottle...did not want to let me order only the trial bottle. A window appears after you put in your cc info that tries to force you to order their night time CBD oil. There was no way to decline that offer. The first time, I couldn't get around it and they sent it too, and charged me for it. The second time, I said no way and backed out of that page to dismiss the whole order. That is when you get out of being forced to buy the night time version. They sent only the one bottle.

The night time stuff was bunk, save your money.

has your doctor ever talked about a stimulant with you? sometimes, giving people on long term opioid-based pain management a stimulant can help with depression, fatigue, sedation, etc. I seem to recall reading somewhere that the combination can also (somehow...) help get more mileage out of the pain killers.

the most common stimulants are in Schedule II, which means they're regarded as highly addictive. each prescription requires a new, written prescription. some states have laws that state that each written prescription for a Schedule II prescription is only valid for a couple days, others don't. They're commonly used in ADHD, narcolepsy, now and then some forms of depression, weight loss. Amphetamines are currently the most popular option, but Ritalin and Focalin can be effective, too, and those tend to be milder than the amphetamines.

Wellbutrin is sometimes used, too. Its a non-addictive, stimulating antidepressant that's also used to help people quit smoking. Now and then, its used in some cases of ADHD, too. I think Wellbutrin may have more drug-drug interactions than stimulants, so that could be an issue.

Other than that...I don't have any major suggestions, lol. If you and your prescriber decide to taper, I'd obviously recomend doing so very, very slowly and cautiously. No need to inflict pain on yourself, after all.

Sorry about the pill talk, lol. I just...I've known of people on long term, relatively high dose pain killer treatment, and I've seen how it can get rough. Now, with the "opioid epidemic," there's this ridiculous situation in which people who want to get high find pill pushers, while people with chronic pain are being drugged to the gills w/ "off-label" stuff (anti-seizure drugs, antidepressants, etc.), so the doc won't have to worry about the DEA. Its...more than a little bit ridiculous.

I hope this helps. I'll keep you up in prayer. :)

On the other hand God put meds on Earth to help us, so don't feel guilty at using them..;)
"Fruit trees of all kinds will grow on both banks of the river. Their leaves will not wither, nor will their fruit fail. Every month they will bear, because the water from the sanctuary flows to them. Their fruit will serve for food and their leaves for healing" (Ezekiel 47:12)

I don't feel guilty, I just don't like them.
