When someone says, ok back that up with scripture..
and you say ok, well why don't you just go on google and find out for yourself..
your thoughts.

If I understand you, basically a person who will not answer with scripture, but rather says to google it takes the position that they are so sure of what they are saying (whether or not they are right) that it will be "all over the Internet". This is especially true if the person holds a minority doctrine.

An example with me is I believe in the migratory travels of the lost tribes of Israel. If a person never heard of that before, and their church does not teach it, oftentimes they may think what I say is the work of a cult where there's little information on it, as if it's some brain storm of one or two people. What they do not realize is that there usually is a lot of info, but just were not exposed to it. I remember in an instance like that saying to the effect "just google it" to prove it, not to answer for me.

tim-from-pa like accepting Jesus into your heart is real, you just have to google it. ;)

If you make an argument, isn't it your job to prove what you claim?
If someone is too lazy to deliver the scripture to back their assertions with then they probably don't care much for their argument anyway.

Good point. Then there's the argument between sloth vs. the internet age.

I do think it's important to provide scripture and sources not just to support your view. We have no idea where someone who is reading what we wrote is in their walk or knowledge of scripture.
I have learned from people who are in this forum, sometimes by comparing the views and their scripture, of two opposing views.

I'm here to learn and maybe to help if I can.

If I just want to argue I could call up my neighbor.

Blessings to you today in our Lord Jesus Christ

Urk, it would depend on the circumstance. If you were talking about the Bible with a buddy at work and you didn't have a Bible in hand. I would probably refer them to the Internet as well because I would not want to add or take from the Bible. But I would not leave it there. I would follow up with probing questions to verify that they looked the information up. And of course I would have my Bible in hand this time.

Now on the other hand, if it is the Internet where this conversation is happening. I'm lead to this Scripture 1 Peter 3:15 "But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asks you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear."

But after years of speaking to people I understand that there are sometimes road blocks (communication barriers), and it would be a better situation if someone else weighed in on that conversation or if they (the other person) went and seek out the information themselves. Because this is also Scriptural.. Philippians 2:12 "Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling."

In conclusion, I do believe that we ought to provide an answer to every man who ask of us, but we may not have all the answers either, so we also must go study, but in no way does this imply that they shouldn't seek out information for themselves.

Does that make sense? I hope this was helpful

God Bless

I vote for backing up with scripture as the best method for a few reasons.

1) Backing up your argument with scripture puts you into the scripture, meaning that you are learning the word of God even if its at the moment of an argument.
2) Google has many dark places! The internet is full of non-factual pages based off opinion. Sending someone on a search through the internet is possibly putting them at risk of finding themselves lost in false teachings. Without the holy spirit to discern for them, they could get pulled into some very dangerous stuff!
3) It shows that you're passionate about your faith and that you understand it.

I actually have an acquaintance that I met a few months back at the gym. He is in his late teens/early 20s. He stated that he was just getting into "God" so I invited him to church and then he proceeded to give me a lecture! Even though he did not know me, he let me know that EVERYTHING I knew was wrong, and that I did not even know how to worship God. He said that the devil is on this earth in the form of the white man.... I just laughed it off and told him to get deeper into his bible.

I befriended him on Facebook and would occasionally see his comments pop up on my wall. I usually just let them slide by if they are just a little crazy. The other day though, he posted on his wall about how we do not need Jesus to be saved and that we are our own greatest savior!

At this point, I had to hit the brakes for him. Apparently I wasn't the only Christian that felt this way because others were asking him to back this up. All he would reply was that we all believe lies and that God has shown him the truth....

I actually was worried at first that he might mislead young Christians on his friends list with his bold statements, but the more I rebuttled him, the more he contradicted himself. It finally got to the point that 50% of what he said contradicted the other 50% of what he said, thus destroying all of his credibility.

He couldn't back up anything with scripture. He talked about all these books of men and history, but didn't use ANY scripture that applied to what he is saying.

He appears to be a "googler" to me... instead of using the source that God gave us, he chooses to surf the net and find crazy information!

I ended up taking him off of my friends list after praying about our quarreling. Here is actually the message I sent him and his reply.

"Albri,
Understand this. I love you as a fellow man. I love you as a son of God. I have said it time and time again that God has great things in store for you. And those things will come through patients and humbleness.
I prayed tonight about our quarelling, and God let me know that this is not the time for our friendship to flourish. That your ways are going to be in conflict with my ways. And it will lead to quarrelling. So for the time being, I need to remove you from my friends list. Understand that this doesn't mean that I dislike you or do not want to help you grow closer to God. The time we spend debating is futile and wasted and leads to strife in my heart.
A day will come where God will provide a growth in our friendship. Until that day comes I will pray for you to continue to seek God and learn His word.
Have a great day bud!

You too and trust me, I really do understand, as a matter of fact, I'm about to read it right now. I wish no harm and no conflict with anyone anymore. I will be patient and do the best to my ability to understand Gods word and keep it with me day in and day out. I really want truth and I apologize for my ways but you must understand, I've been through a lot! yes, God says there is no excuse, if you can think straight, for anything, but this is my journey and know that I'm not out to mislead. I really did cry yesterday and prayed for direct guidance and forgiveness. Today I played with fire on purpose to prove a point. People will find truth no matter what religion if they take it in correct and study for themselves. They will believe in God. We cannot change their course. All we can do is pray for them, focus on ours, and be thankful that God is sharing this with us. I acknowledge Christ but I cannot acknowledge Jesus because when I think of him, I see A White Image! The Image that everyone knows him as. I know that there was a person of his Word but Jesus put in numerical Hebrew and Gnosis is far dangerous. There are false prophets and everyone wanted to kill this man who had done nothing wrong. Who is held accountable??? From what I know, there was a man who spread the good word and people of flesh wanted to destroy it and make people forget and those same people wrote the bible and handed it to us and told us boats were Jesus. These same people lied and deceived so many others. They never followed the word. God is revealing something. How many times has Christ name changed in the bible and why and why do they have pictures and sculptures of him as a white man??? Why does Jesus in greek mean, in the image of Zeus??? Why has everyone denied him and tried to bring him back? When was he really born and what does it mean? He was born in the spring. The new year starts in the spring, the beginning of life. The Vatican holds many truths behind walls and what you think you know may very well be a lie. But what do I know. Im just a lost lamb searching for the shepherd who will not lead me to the slaughter, but lead me to true salvation. God bless you brother and thank you for caring. I hope we all find truth!

I found truth last night! Lol I believe in Black Christ, savior of Israel and all other nations! I do need to be baptized when my faith is stronger. God moves in mysterious ways and we are living in the midst of his prophecies! Praise be to God Through Christ our Savior born to Set us Free of our bondage and iniquities and take us back to the promise land!

Apparently God cares about the colors of the people he made!

This is just an excerpt of the things this boy attempts to preach. Be cautious when you enter the internet. The devil loves to use the things of this world to lead us from the truth!
