Macular dystrophy is a rare, genetic eye disorder that causes vision loss. Macular dystrophy affects the retina in the back of the eye. Specifically, it leads to damage of cells in an area in the retina called the macula. The macula is responsible for central vision.
Glare is a problem.. Thankfully macular dystrophy is much, much slowing moving that macular degeneration.

Probably should take more breaks from the internet, or use mobile devices more often. I don't remember it straining my eyes as much a few years ago.

It's called age...we get more as time goes by.... Hey even I, a direct relative of Peter Pan, gets some unfortunately.

But it also has a positive.... Some of us get wisdom along with age...some don't. But I think that you're going to be just fine.

On the computer screen being brighter than the sky, I've found (even when I was a kid) that the sky was often too bright for me. Not every day, maybe not most of the time, but there are times I remember barely being able to look up. (And not just because my eyes needed to adjust or something.)

If you are left eye dominant and your left eye has less focus as you noted prior, that is probably the issue. Get a cheap pair of readers. I get mine on ebay for about 3 bucks a pair, in bulk.

Right eye dominant. Was saying that the experience I described in the OP may be similar to how my left eye works, except that's how my left eye works 24/7.

I guess the obvious question is, have you tried a simple set of readers? I used to use a 1.5X pair, half lense. Now I use a 2X because I'm on my laptop reading fine print for 10-14 hours a day almost everyday.
