First, does this site use ads for support. I have an ad blocker as without it, my computer slows way down.

I used to post a bunch at christianforums.com but their rules are so restrictive I haven't posted for a while. I like the free flow here where adults can freely exchange even edgy posts. (I do realize there is a line as I've seen it enforced - which is encouraging as well)

How does your support here work? \

thanks in advance

There are actually two ways this site gets support. One way is through ads, but the other is through donations. I believe there is a donate button on the main page of the forum that allows you to use a credit card to send money directly to the site.

Thanks. I use Opera as my browser and you can turn off the ad blocker. I just tried it and my browser loads just fine. In fact there is a test to see how much faster it loads with adblock on and it's only about 1%. That's like nothing so I'll leave my adblock off while here (it's automatic once it's set). I'll check out the other option as well.

Papa, this discussion is more appropriate for the Questions and Suggestions Forum. Other members can weigh in and also may benefit from the discussion, too. The Talk with the Staff Forum is intended to be a place where members can dispute actions taken upon them by the moderators.

I'll briefly redirect members to the new location. Thanks.

Ok, I am back. First I really like you people. You're fair in my book. You have to put up with a lot on the politics board and I like the fact that you give it a chance. But mostly I like that you are good people and that being here feels good. This place is personal and friendly.

So I'd like more info on support $ wise. Like how much does it take to run this site? I ask for a couple of reasons. I'm considering giving somewhat regularly (not sure what that means yet) but would like to know the need. Also, I want to spread the word and encourage others to donate to keep this place running. So what can you tell me?

I don't think any of us knows for sure. This is all handled behind the scenes by Greg Head who owns the site. I know he deeply appreciates any assistance in offsetting its cost. CFnet has never been a money-maker for him, and that's not why he maintains it. It's a ministry.

I know this doesn't answer your question, but I wanted to acknowledge it. Be blessed.

Yeah, what Mike said. But my estimate is at least $400-500 per year. But, upgrades are needed, which raises the cost.

By the way, I think it's beneficial that we, as volunteering staff aren't aware of the financing of the site, and it's admirable to me that Greg doesn't concern us with it. We've all heard of, maybe even been a part of, organizations where special donors were given special treatment. We don't know, so we don't have that to weigh in our moderation of the board. :yes
