A recovery forum with different subforums for different things. Like Mental illness, Chronic Pain, Addictions and whatever else you can think of. :)

    God Bless you all :pray

I'm not sure I understand your request. Could you expand a little?

I think what Army Wife is wanting is a separate section the is entirely devoted to recovery in its many forms. It would basically be a place where people could share testimonies and encourage each other who have experienced similar experiences getting over various addictions.

Unless I am completely off base, which is entirely possible.

    Let me explain. :)

You guys have different categories like Christian Growth and then you have the forums with different subjects on Christian Growth.

How this would work would a category Mental illness then different forums and same with Chronic Pain, Addictions and whatever else you can think of. :)

I think we did talk about a mental health forum a while back. If I remember correctly the admins had some concerns about self proclaimed experts taking it as an opportunity and that having the potential to cause problems. The risk of sorta there with the health forum, too, but a lot less is known about mental illness and you have a lot of people who even deny that it exists at all and who are very vocal about that and I think the admins felt that wouldn't be the best environment for those who need support.

I can understand that, there should be somewhere in the rules stating that people shouldn't say they are experts and we are just here as support and if they need help they can call their counselor (if they have one) or if needed asap call 911.

    Just a thought. :)

Thats when the admins get involved. They have IP address's and they can get a hold of the right people so that doesn't happen again.

there wasn't time or the ability to do that. he sent no pm here to the site. it was done via private email. I had to convince him to go. it worked. but well without any ip location as it was from a smart phone which well those have their own and well I can post while walking or from on location to another. I posted that from home but earlier I have posted from my job locations while on break.

I would hesitate to begin a forum assigned specifically for this purpose because it might put CFnet in a position where someone writing in mistakenly feels they are able to obtain professional support or advice. If it's a place where people can go to discuss things that are on their minds we do have a few forums where this may be possible.

"Christian Talk & Advice" This forum is accessible to Christians only and debating is not allowed so this might be a place where gentle discussion could be had.

"Health and Nutrition" This forum is set up for discussions related to health issues.

The "Locker Rooms" These forums, "Men's Locker Room" and "Ladies Locker Room" are restricted and age and gender verification is required before gaining access. These forums provide a place for discussing more sensitive topics that may be unsuitable for open board discussion.

I noticed when we changed over to this new format, that there isn't a men's locker room any longer.

Pretty quiet a lot of the time, really. Always been kinda like that, at least since I've been here. Sometimes specifically female-related health questions or discussions have come up. Stuff we may not be comfortable posting about in the public forums.

I can relate to and understand the importance of having something for addiction recovery. @ArmyWife depending on what you had in mind specifically it might be better to start a thread rather than create a whole new forum with sub-categories and all. CF.net helped me in my recovery from addiction 3 years ago, but it was mostly the fellowship I got from this site as a whole rather than a specific thread that focused on addiction that helped me. Although there were some discussions where the focus was on addiction that helped as well.

Also I do think that it would be hard to have a meaningful discussion if all the different categories of recovery that you mentioned were thrown together in one thread. I would be careful with the topic of mental illness since the issue of people talking about different meds could come up. I have seen on other sites where people will simply talk about and recommend that they try and get their dr. to switch them to a different med.

I have to get ready for church now, but will pray about it.

I'll echo what reba and WIP have said. It has the potential to put some legal issues on CF.net. This was talked about a while ago. The Christian Talk & Advice forum is well suited to these things, remembering of course that anyone can say anything on the internet.
