Here's the dictionary meaning of repent and then I'll tell you the best way to repent:
vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv
re·pent 1
(rĭ-pĕnt′)
v. re·pent·ed, re·pent·ing, re·pents
v.intr.
1. To feel remorse, contrition, or self-reproach for what one has done or failed to do; be contrite: "[He] liked to visit prisoners and admonish them to repent of their ways" (Adam Hochschild).
2. To feel such regret for past conduct as to change one's mind regarding it: repented of intemperate behavior. You'd better accept their offer before they repent.
3. To become a more moral or religious person as a result of remorse or contrition for one's sins.
v.tr.
1. To feel regret or self-reproach for: repent one's sins.
2. Archaic To cause (one or oneself) to feel remorse or regret: "And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth" (King James Bible).

However, it doesn't really explain what repent means.
In Christianity repent means TO CHANGE DIRECTION

This is an important concept. It means that you were walking in one direction and then you stopped, turned around and walked in the other direction.

So, you were walking in the direction toward satan. You were going toward him, as most are since they are lost. Those lost are walking in the direction leading to satan.

Then one day you decide to TURN AROUND and walk toward God. You change your direction and now you're walking toward God and you become saved.

This is important because if we say that we "repent" for our sins it has to mean in the sense of being sorry - and not repenting. You only need to repent ONCE, otherwise it means you're trusting in yourself to get saved an not trusting in Jesus.

Once you repent, everything is called sins - for which Jesus covers you. You're still headed in the right direction - you just get up and keep going.

What is the best way to repent?
Just DECIDE to walk toward God.
Thank you for the info!

Martin Luther's first of 95 theses:
  1. When our Lord and Master Jesus Christ said, ``Repent'' (Mt 4:17), he willed the entire life of believers to be one of repentance.
Who gives repentance?
...God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth, and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will. (2 Timothy 2:25-26 ESV)

Repent. My friend is repenting his repentance to me and I said take it straight to The Most high.

I told him i don't need or want to hear his confessions myself and he needs to take it directly to the Most High.

I think he needs and wants Christ. I told him repent to God not me.

I'm always there to support but I'm just a man, repent to The Most High and his Christ.

Why tell others your problems when you have The Most High. The Creator. The Greatest. The King of all Kings and Life who gives life.

Praise the Lord.

Kiwidan,
I'm sorry. I don't agree.
Sometimes it's necessary to tell one's problems to someone. You may not need to do this, but maybe your friend does.

You should listen to him. That's all he wants. He's not looking for an answer, just for an ear.
Being a good Christian also means helping others. Sometimes we help just by listening. Not everyone is so close to the Lord as you are.

Go have some coffee with him and listen to his woes. It'll be a good deed done.

(I sure have a lot to say for someone who knows no details!!)

Wondering

Of corse I listened and talked to him and let him know all is OK Christ forgives and the Most High forgives, I just said he can take it and talk directly to Christ, he is the way the truth and the life, not me. Even all Christ wanted was for people to look to his Father so that's all I'm saying.

James 5:16 KJV
Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
(Other translations - faults =sins)

Balance with:
Hebrews 6:4
For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,
6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

Repentance is the way leading to Christ Jesus, but repentance is not salvation. Jesus bore our sins on the cross:
I Peter 2:24
Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

Repentance does not save us: it does lead to Jesus. Look ar where the person is:
Has he repented before.
Has he ever accepted Jesus as savior?
Has he received the Holy Spirit? To be a witness we need power. ( I look forward to lashes)

Hebrews 6:4-6 can be used as a checklist for (all things whatsoever I have commanded you).

The Holy Spirit grants power to witness.

You always need a pre-flight checklist. If you do not know what to check for, are you a pilot? By the way ( I am not an airplane pilot - of any sort).

How could you say the above?
Repentance is salvation.
If you repent if means you have changed your direction.
That's all repent means.

Once you were going in the wrong direction, heading straight toward satan. The direction we're going in at birth.

If you repent, it means you change direction. You go the other way. The other way is toward God.
If you're going toward God, you're saved.

I see too many different recipes on these threads telling people how to get saved. The only thing you need to get saved is to WALK TOWARD GOD. God is waiting for you at the end of your journey.

If you're going toward God, you're saved.

A devout muslim, a follower of allah, walks toward his god never having been forgiven by the Real God who sent Jesus The Christ to a Cross.

So is there a SIN problem with "walking toward god" regarding this allah worshiping person?

And, what would that be ?

I'm not going to argue this.
There is only ONE God. Jesus is not preached everywhere. This doesn't mean I believe Allah is the same God we serve. Problem is: Muslims don't know this. They believe they're following the right God.

What do you make of 1 John 2:2?

Repent!

For California is dying!!!

I was looking for the "like" button but there isn't one.
Somehow when we don't forgive someone it hinders God from doing everything He wants to do - completing all the work He'd like to complete in a person.

I don't understand this very well, but we do know that we are to forgive if we expect to be forgiven.
Mathew 6:14-15

Forgiving sets free both the injuring party and the injured party.

"if two of you agree on earth about anything that they may ask, it shall be done for them by My Father who is in heaven. 20“For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst.” 21Then Peter came and said to Him, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me and I forgive him? Up to seven times?” 22Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven." (Matthew 18:19-22 NASB)

God works where two or more people come into agreement regarding forgiveness. If one holds out....no work, no will of God, is manifest in the earth.

I hope it is not me making unfounded comments.

John 10:9 KJV
I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.

To head in the direction of God, is not the whole story. Evidently on this narrow path you come to a door (I have used the tool booth to explain). Jesus paid the price for eternal life.
Job said my sins were placed in a sack and sewn up.

I agree.
Forgiveness is a matter of the will. One could forgive with the heart even though he might be hurt in his human feelings. The hurt feelings dissipate with time and then only the forgiveness remains.

It has been my personal habit to forgive everyone of everything. This is how it must be if we are to continue in our journey.
