Second Point: Faith is the gift of God referred to in this verse. Faith is not of ourselves, but comes to us when we hear the Gospel message; The word of God, or as Paul says... the word of faith.

When we hear God's word, we receive the faith that comes by hearing.

From that point, it is our choice to act in obedience or not, to what we have heard from God.

That's why Paul calls it the obedience of faith.

I understand all of Ephesians 2:8-10 and concur. I left out faith because I wanted to concentrate on God's grace and that salvation is a gift to be accepted and when it is, it is for NOW.
We have been saved by GRACE through FAITH. It's our faith that saves us. The same faith that saved those of the O.T. before Jesus' sacrifice. Hebrews chapter 11.

God's grace, after all, falls on everyone. If it did not, there would be no possibility of salvation since God would remain unknown to us. Jesus knocks on everyone's door... Revelation 3:20

So, yes, you do have to hear about God somehow, so faith comes by hearing.
Faith can also come through nature. I'm sorry, it may not be faith, but the KNOWLEDGE of God.

The obedience of faith is new terminology for me.
IOW, we have heard the gospel, we accept, we have faith
Now, because of that faith, we obey.
Or, we obey that in which we have faith - in this case a person, Jesus.
Of course, this was always understood, but it was never called obedience of faith.

In Eph 2:8,9, salvation is the gift, and faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God (Rom 10:17). At the same time the spiritual gift of faith (presumably extraordinary faith) is given to some along with other spiritual gifts. Strangely enough, one needs faith as little as a mustard seed to accomplish the impossible. It is not the volume of faith, but the Person in whom the faith is placed. All can believe the Gospel, if all choose to believe it. Some deliberately choose not to.

It's speaking about not being in the flesh,
but being in the spirit.
If the spirit who raised Christ is living in us, then we will also be raised.
We are children of God.
The sufferings of this time are not worthy to be compared to the glory that is to be revealed to us.

Even the creation is waiting eagerly.
And will also be set free.
(it will be set free at the end time)
(the redemption - glorification. Is this it? When we are at the end times our faith will be perfected.

So let's look at it this way, what comes first faith or being saved?


You will be saved, as long as you continue in the faith, and are not moved away from the hope of the Gospel.

So as long as we continue to have faith, we will continue to be saved...by faith, until we receive the reality of the thing we are hoping for...

The word of God can be the rhema [spoken] and the logos [written].

Jesus is the Logos, the message of the old testament scriptures, that became flesh. [See Also, the Angel of the Lord]

10 He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. 11 He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. 12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

The message of the old testament was Jesus.

The message [word] of the old testament, became the living breathing reality that the old testament scripture's foreshadowed.
