Sanhedrin Performs Rare Biblical Commandment Not Seen For 2,000 Years

Last Thursday, a Biblical commandment that hasn’t been seen in 2,000 years was fulfilled. In the Cardo neighborhood of the Old City of Jerusalem, two witnesses stood before the Sanhedrin and gave testimony that established the beginning of the new month.

Setting the new month by witnesses is considered by Rashi, a prominent commentator on the Bible, to be the first mitzvah (Biblical commandment) the Nation of Israel received after leaving Egypt. With great spiritual meaning, establishing the calendar is far more than a convenience. It is so important that it takes precedence over the Sabbath. In Biblical times, witnesses were permitted to break the Sabbath in order to arrive in Jerusalem and stand before the Sanhedrin.

Professor Hillel Weiss, spokesman and secretary of the Sanhedrin, explained the significance toBreaking Israel News.

“On a simple level, without this mitzvah, we are saying that God does not exist in nature or the passage of time, that nature runs like mechanical clockwork,” Professor Weiss said.

On a technical level, the event was a step in the process of correcting the Hebrew calendar. By Biblical law, the new month for the Hebrew calendar was established by reliable witnesses appearing before the Sanhedrin. Hillel II, president of the Sanhedrin in the fourth century, established a written calendar based on astronomical calculations. This calendar, still in use, standardized the length of months and the addition of months in leap years over the course of a 19-year cycle, so that the lunar calendar realigns with the solar years.

In the times of the Temple, the new month would be established by both calculation and by witnesses appearing before the Sanhedrin. When the Temple was destroyed and the Sanhedrin disbanded, the Hebrew calendar was figured solely according to the astrological calculations and the template established by Hillel II.

If what they are saying is true then Saturday becomes Sunday...maybe Friday....what are the Jews and "Sabbath" worshipping guys going to do then?

Because the major issues with the old calendar was that it was incorrect even though it has been unchallenged for 1700 years.

At one time i too, was enamored with Israel and the Jewish religion..

Christians are a sect of Judaism.

We are grafted into the Abrahamic Covenant, not the law, and certainly not the antichrist religion of Judaism.

Judaism is the religion that the Jews made the law of Moses into.
Judaism is an antichrist religion that denies Jesus as Messiah.
Judaism is a man-made religion that mixes mans traditions, with the law of Moses, similar to what Catholicism does with the New Covenant.

And I advanced in Judaism beyond many of my contemporaries in my own nation, being more exceedingly zealous for the traditions of my fathers. Galatians 1:14

God added the law to the Abrahamic Covenant. Galatians 3:19
God did not give the children of Israel the religion of Judaism.

Israel lost her right to be called Gods chosen people as they fell into idolatry worshipping other gods as they allowed themselves to fall from Gods grace as they followed the lust of their own hearts, 1Kings 9:1-9. God’s judgment against them led them to be captured, 605 – 537 B.C., by Nebuchadnezzar into Babylon for seventy years while Nebuchadnezzar’s army killed many Jews in Judah and Jerusalem destroying the whole city of Jerusalem including the first Temple that was built through King Solomon’s reign in Jerusalem.

The second Temple was built under Ezra’s leadership and then Israel started practicing Judaism and their Temple was desecrated as part of an effort to impose Greek-oriented culture and customs on the entire population. Roman rule refurbished the temple as Herod, Romans vassal king, rules the land of Israel. In 70 A.D. the Temple is once again destroyed. The Temple Mount was taken over in 691 A.D. as the Arab nation built the Dome of the Rock and there has not been any other Temple built since that time on the original Temple Mount.

God gave Israel 490 years to repent. They were set free from Babylon when the Medes and Persian conquered Babylon (Chaldeans) around 538 B.C. They were allowed back in the land and to rebuild the city of Jerusalem, however, they still did not repent for their sin of idol worshipping and they continued to receive punishment from God as the kingdom was taken away and eventually taken over by the Roman Empire.

The 490 years were up and the Jews not only did not repent but they killed the very Messiah they had been waiting for as well as in 24 A.D. they made an opened display of rejecting the Gospel message as they stoned Stephen being the final messenger that was sent to give them their last chance to repent. The Jews were now rejected as God’s chosen people and were no different from the Gentiles as from that time forth each individual, Jew and Gentile has to make their own decision to accept or reject Jesus as Lord and Savior, John 3:3-7; Romans 10:9, 10. The disciples were called first to preach to the Jews, Matthew 10:6, and Paul was called to preach to the Gentiles, Acts 22:21. God has saved a remnant out of the twelve tribes of Israel even up to a thousand generations that have always been faithful to Him, Exodus 20:1-6; Psalms 105:7, 8, but those who have yet to accept Jesus as Messiah God will continue to cut them off.

Because the major issues with the old calendar was that it was incorrect even though it has been unchallenged for 1700 years.

The restoration of using the sighted moon has no bearing on when the weekly Sabbath is. It is always the 7th day of the week which corresponds with our Friday sundown to Saturday sundown.

Returning to a sighted moon is a major step in restoring the calendar to Yahweh's way rather than man's way. The calculated calendar they were using causes them to keep the wrong holy days as is evident this month by them starting the year a month late.

Judaism is a man-made religion that mixes mans traditions, with the law of Moses, similar to what Catholicism does with the New Covenant.

Christianity mixes man's traditions with the New Covenant just as Catholicism does. Christmas, Easter, and a Sunday Sabbath are all traditions not found in the New Covenant.

NO! Never. They do not see or perceive the "rituals" they follow speak of Christ. All the while, wallowing in those allegorical showings, never seeing.

It's a pity, really. They read the Word, day after day, never understanding The Living Word. Always waiting. For what? For God to uphold Judaism? To establish their nation at the expense of other nations? They are just another God bless me and mine club.

And then we have the pseudo Jews. Those believers who think they alone know the intricacies of Judaism, and how Judaism should be practiced in the Christian churches. People who will argue about calendars and minutes on the clock and days of the week and laws and yada yada yada.

The law is a trap, set to reveal sin in us. But when it catches it's victims, do they even know what it is? Or do they just fight to their deaths?
