blah. increasingly, even 4 year degrees, masters degrees...don't always pay off as expected. on the whole, having a 4 year degree means more overall $$$ and greater job stability, but...the 4 year degree is no longer the golden ticket to the american dream. a masters isn't necessarily a guarantee, either. and...

i dunno. not to sound like a commie, but it does line up with what the marxists term "late stage capitalism." the us -had- a safety net, worker protections, etc., things to expand the middle class, reduce extreme wealth and extreme poverty, and basically...use capitalism (a regulated version) to improve life for lots of people. and then...

the 70s happened. LOL. actually...its the way unregulated or not well regulated capitalism usually works....the 30s (new deal) to the 70s or so were an exception to the rule, especially for the US. and now...

its international, of course. i have an acquaintance in the uk. they still have more social programs than we do, but...they've ripped a lot of it to shreds. and...that= more homeless, more drugs, more prison, and more rich and very rich people, too.

schools function in part as ways to socialize people. so...a lot of it is about either raising up future "winners," or helping create and control future criminals, "losers," etc., because remember: the same society that punishes deviants also helps create them. true story. its "the world," as Christians view it in doctrine and theology...the fallen world that ruins many lives. anyway...point is...

where you end up usually begins on where you start. i remember a rich girl in my classes...she could do no wrong, and she now has a masters and manages her dad's business. i remember a poor dude who could do nothing right, and last i heard he was facing federal prison time. and in between you have...everybody, LOL.

there are exceptions...a friend's brother (upper middle class, maybe straight up upper class) ended up doing prison time more than once. sin is real, no doubt...what went on there, i have 0 idea. i will say that....once the criminal (in)justice system grabs a hold, they really don't want to let go. a rich man at the church i went to growing up went to prison, too....drug stuff, it was the 80s. all things considered, i think they went easy on him. and then...

i dunno. not a big fan of school myself. graduated hs 1 year early to escape bullying. driven out of a state funded, public college...

and it could have been a whole, whole lot worse. now...by some miracle, i learn things fairly easily, write well, etc. but i dont think id want to have a child, much less have a child in a school all day....unless of course i somehow had $$$. enough $$$ and status for kiddo to have friend and fun and good classes and...on and on it goes.

You must work for the Board of Education as much as you defend them, lol. If a person studied the Word of God like a college course and applied himself to drawing closer to God instead of going to college...He would be more capable and wise than if he had an education.
No,I didn't.so isolate yourself .look I never implied he can't, I stated that he can choose a field ,study it.

I did that ..while married ,with my wife whose disabled. If you are brains washable by learning the opposing argument .kindly kill yourself . God gave us minds, gifts.you fear intellect,I don't .

I can read ,know and not be changed by that .I can if it I allow it.you must not know thar I waa anti college, gun, military .raised that way.

Jw,former one.I didn't just all of a sudden change .I left ,then got saved.I hate most entertainiment.I have the mind to explore history .most of my photos are me doing that.I can. Touch the pain of racism, the despair of ww2,nam to present all by meeting the right person here. I can post testimonies of church building here.

I don't fear intellect but you gotta admit...it is carnal thinking.

and technically, vocation means spiritual education and has nothing to do with earthly employment skills...people just use the term wrong nowadays.

You can get a college degree through self study. Pass a few CLEP, AP, DANTES, and GRE subject tests. Excelsior College (part of the University of the State of New York) will give you a fully accredited BA or BS.

I'm sorry, I know you're just trying to help me and give me good advice and I appreciate that, but I'm not going to any form of college.

The greek word can be both, so using my God given brain ,it's a sin that I can use my mind to learn biology, chemistry, math ,study creation, use it to make men better healthy, fix red tide,

Nothing carnal about that. What is creationism? Uhm that?

The bible isn't anti intellectual, but against using that to deny God.please note.

Plenty of wise Godly men do use that

look i dont know where you live or what the job markets are like. no a person can not just take any old college course . you would need research the field and what the pay rate is. my son went to tech college got associate degree net work admin. problem with that they want B.A degree plus 5 years experience . there are good jobs out there all i am saying is dont throw your education under the bus.

If I may, there's no job ,military especially yoi ain't a number. The air force, when they downsize simply gets rid of you.the army oth, tries to fill it's gaps with experienced men.I'm a retired guard,I have 5 mos because of two such changes.no one isn't replaceable at work .I was told that two weeks ago, heard in the military .
i have a great nephew enlisted air force in Germany going to school i also have a nephew retired military army lives in ft hood tx ..i dont talk to him much nut he seems be doing pretty good. supervisor i think working for the county ..nothing is written in stone it takes the right field a good education can be a plus the title of a book if you want to walk on water. you have to get out of the boat.. my guess your with in my age group maybe younger.. but you know .we work for what we get . life is like roses but what out for the prics (thorns) of life

At my grade there is nothing useful to get out of an education. College is a scam and just leaves you in debt.

You sound just like me when I was in 9th grade. I felt there was nothing I was going to learn that I would need later on in life and wanted to quit, but my parents would not let me.

I went to my 45th class reunion this summer and it made me think of all the missed opportunities I had in High School. I tried to apply myself at the beginning of each year, but was pretty much pushed through on a D average when I graduated back in 1973. It was a rural High School and if you were not popular or smart you were nothing as even the teachers back then had no time for you. I even had one teacher tell me not to ask so many questions as I wasn't going to understand anyway so I just gave up trying.

They say you get out of what you put in which is true and if I would have studied harder I could have made a better career choice for myself back in the day. College is not for everyone, but the education I had the opportunity to receive in High School could have better prepared me for the work force as minimum wage does not always pay all your bills.

I will say the school system needs better programs, maybe they do now, for those that have a hard time learning as I had a hard time retaining what I did study when it came to test as I would draw a blank. I even have this problem today when studying the Bible and learning something new, but now I learned to take many notes and go back to them when I need them.

If we would of had home schooling back in my school days I would have opted for that as I think you get a better education this way.

But that's my one of my problems with school. People say if you study harder in school you can get "a better job." All they think about is money because society thinks money is the say all end all to their problems. School speaks nothing of passion of happiness and only talks about that magnificent job in which you can make 6 digits.

It's not the idea of making big money so much, but to find a good job that will support you and later on in life a family. In 9th grade you do not think of those things, but basically live in the moment. I have no children, but it does take both my Social security and my husbands wages to make ends meet. The better wage you make does make a big difference on what you will receive in social security when you retire. Sometimes you have to look at the big picture and prepare for that.

I had one subject in school I really liked and that was mechanical drawing even though I did not do very well with it as I didn't apply myself, but now I wish I had because that is an area that I could have pursued as I do like designing things. I don't know what your interest are if you have any yet, but at your age is the time to think what it is you want to do in life and apply learning to that.

Of course, with the military now you better be able to survive on less pay until you have made it back, unless it's a direct related field .ie I retire as a msgt, truck driver.driving trucks ain't paying 5 grand a month unless you have a good truck experience.
