A common sight on the streets of Clearwater, Florida.
Scientology literally owns most of the real estate in the downtown area.
Everyone walking the streets in black and white is a scientologist and they will not talk to you.
There is punishment for that.

I was in Clearwater last April for a day and didn't notice their presence. It's always fascinated me that in the same general time in history there came Mormonism and Jehova Witness, and then came Scientology. These groups are made up of committed members following lies and legalism. They could have followed Buddha if they were looking for an easy road, but they went all in with these cults.

It makes me wonder if the Church was and is missing something big or asleep at the wheel, but these lost sheep were looking for something they couldn't find in it. They found it in the wrong place.

They won't talk to you? I can give you tips on picking up chicks if your having that issue. The tips might be a bit carnal, but they do work.

Brother Mike is getting bored.
Please, someone start an anti-Word of Faith thread so he can be activated again.

Lol, well I thought those girls you tried to mack on ignored you, I was willing to step in and help a brother. Still, a good anti-WOF thread would give me something to do. I might have to go start one of those.

Blessings.

Don't know much about Scientology. The most experience I've had with it is a girlfriend back in the day said she was a scientologist, but I think she said she was because of a celebrity that she liked was one, so she followed that celebrity without really knowing what it was. Outside of that, it's based on what you hear, either from what someone else hears or has experienced regaining the religion. Each story seems more kooky and manipulative then the one before it. I would' trust it, and would keep as much distance from it as possible.

I find Scientology very controlling; I understand that they monitor their believers and restrict their actions.
Sometimes, if a family member is to leave, the other family members still part of the 'order' are told to not communicate with them.
There is also something about donating a large sum of money in a programme I watched about it.

They're kind of scary. That said, they fund an organization...The Citizen's Commission on Human Rights...that fights abuses in mental health treatment. Of course, that's probably because they view Mental Health, Inc. as a competitor, lol. Still...the CCHR does a lot of good work, and has since the late 60s or so. The organization was founded by a sociologist and also by Thomas Szasz.

I tremble at the amount of property they own.
It's a monstrous amount internationally. You never tend to notice it until you research it.

I don't necessarily tremble about it, but your point is true. One problem with cults like Scientology is that they close their books and hide their assets even from their members. All people can do is estimate the value of their Holdings, and I've read some figures that would make some of the wealthiest people in the world proud. You'd think these estimates would cause some of their members to take a step back and think. I have never read anything that suggests a decline in membership. Ditto for the Mormons.
It seems a popular subject recently.
I understand that Tom Cruise has left the church so perhaps another documentary will be made using his experiences.

I think he did. I was at a hotel about a month ago and saw what I think was a new documentary. It speaks to the grip they have on their followers that so many wicked stories, so much abuse, so much hypocrisy can be brought to light, and so many stay committed. In fact, it all seems to have the opposite effect. They dig their heals in deeper in defiance. Again, ditto for the Mormons.

Thank you for your reply.
When I think Scientology I automatically think cult. I don't see how they think that what they have is a religion; I'm hoping that within the dark areas we see, there is a genuine belief system...I find this hard to see.

Yeah, I think it's a religion as the world defines it, but everything I've read or seen puts them in the category of self-enlightenment. No Jesus, no Light.
