Should a Christian act like a "know it all"?

Should a Christian act like a "know it all"? Should a Christian act like they are right and everyone else is wrong?

Re: Should a Christian act like a "know it all"?

Dave, I used to be on this forum quite a bit, then because of the wildly insane schedule my family has now, I'm not on as much. But, when I'm on, I always read your posts. They tend to be quirky, thought-provoking and fun. You're a great addition to the board.

Should a Christian act like a "know it all"? You know, I've yet to meet a Christian who actually does "know it all". To act like one does, when one doesn't is simply irritating.

There is a great satirical fairy tale called "Prince Prigio" by Andrew Lang. Prigio actually does know it all, therefore he wasn't only irritating, he was insufferable. After all his adventures in the tale, when he at last learned wisdom as well as knowledge, his wife asked that he would take his wishing cap and wish that he was no cleverer than other people. However, because he did learn wisdom as well as knowledge, what he actually wished for was that he would SEEM no cleverer than other people.

Wise indeed! ;)

Anyway, to quote from a somewhat higher source than Lang, "Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind let each of you regard one another as more important than himself; do no merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others." (Philippians 2:3-4)

Bottom line, one should act with humility, not with pretentiousness.

As one who often seems to come off as a "know it all" but who would be the first to admit that I know very, very little in the relative scheme of things, I thank you for this reminder. :clap

I can't stand when people act like they know-it-all. It really offends those of us that do. :biggrin

My dad used to tell me, "son, I know everything. I just can't remember any of it anymore." :biggrin

"The more I know, the more I realize I know nothing."

Absolutely NOT! NO one (except God) knows everything. NO one (except God) is ALWAYS right. Yet, there are those who act as though they do know everything, and only they know the truth. Everyone who disagrees with them is wrong in their feeble deceived minds. I have no use for anyone who won't even consider the fact that they could possibly be wrong and are NOT always right.

Re: Should a Christian act like a "know it all"?

The one thing I keep in mind, is that a man/woman that is wise within her/himself, is therefore not wise. And to be as wise as a serpent, and as gentle as a dove when I proceed to communicate what the Lord has led me to speak unto an individual. And outside of that, I ask for the Lord to put hot coals upon my tongue if I go to speak outside of HIS will, in case my "flesh" wants to get involved.

Works for me..........

Carol, thank you for this reminder to be unwilling to speak outside God's will. You're so right. The flesh is so eager to be satisfied yet can get in the way of our service to the Lord.

Only if s/he's arguing against the claim that the world is flat. :)

Re: Should a Christian act like a "know it all"?

I absolutely know everything, about anything. Nothing is beyond my realm of knowledge. Now if I can just remember, where I put that paper with all the answers on it. :confused

Well, I would say that we shouldn't play that game then. But I think it's probably human nature to want to say "I told you so" when we are correct about something someone disputed. Of course that doesn't make it right. It all comes down to pride, I guess. :shame
