Should women 'really' be silent in the Church?

I started this thread not to learn what the Bible states but what others thought of it.

So why the flame job on my thoughts? I'm treated with more respect in a non-christian forum. When I see several words in all caps, and read the accusations in your post, that tells me that I'm certainly not welcome express what I think. I don't want to cause anyone to stumble, so I'll stick to the non-christian forum.

You did make a valid point, Imagican. I shouldn't take your attack personally. Even though I am sure that you intended it to be just that. When you use words like, "That's awful strong liberty that you and others choose to exercise concerning the words of the Bible", "...you like to pick and choose those pieces of scripture that support your personal feelings and beliefs and ignore the rest", "Is the problem you have with women being in 'their place' based on the Word or on your own feelings and what you've been taught by society?" (that's a good one, I'll come back to that in a minute) that sounds personal to me. Questioning my manhood, yeah that's love. Then to say "I love you, brother", that's hard to appreciate when you have shown no evidence of love, but plenty of animosity.

However, I realize that you're not really speaking against me. I used to see things in much the same way that you do now. But as I've allowed the Lord to teach me the mysteries of His Word, my thoughts and beliefs have changed. Since the ideas and interpretation of God's Word that I posted are the result of the Holy Spirit's work in my life, you are not speaking against me. You are blaspheming the Holy Spirit.

Now, back to the "being influenced by society" thing. I'll bet you have big plans for Easter. After all, it's a big time holy day, right. Only according to the Romans who founded Easter. They combined the worship of Eostre, a fertility goddess (that's what the eggs and bunny is all about). Tell me of your plans for Passover (quick, look it up to see what day it is). Then show me the portion of scripture that instructs us to stop celebrating the Jewish festivals. My guess is that you are guilty of the very thing that you accuse me of, being influenced by society instead of the Word of God.

As for the resurrection of Jesus, this should be celebrated every day. And our lives should be the celebration of His resurrection power in us.

The bottom line is, I've had my fill of puffed up Christians like you who think yourself wise, but your wisdom is worldly. I'd love to just walk away, but the Lord is telling me to stay. You need to learn not to speak against the Holy Spirit.

Now you have a choice: "Is this possible, Lord?" or "I'm going to tell this Kwag_Myers a thing or two." If I were you (and I have been), I'd ask the first question, first. Trust me, if I'm correct, you'll be asking it sooner or later. Save yourself some anguish and ask Him before you respond to this. I'm not going to look at this thread again, so it's not going to do you any good.

I often wonder what would have become of the church if women had simply remained silent.

Very True. There have historically been more women missonaries than men. What would have happened to the Church if women remained silent?

I believe the key to understanding what Paul meant by these verses of controversy is to find out what was going on in the church or churches he was writing to. I do not believe that Paul was saying that women could not teach the Gospel, or that they must be silent each and every time the church meets.

I do, Krissy Remember Paul was writing almost 2000 years ago. It's only been 85 years since women in THIS country were granted the right to vote, for instance. And we see how women are regarded even today in most Middle Eastern cultures?

Yet for hundreds of years the gospel has been carried on the backs of women who refused to allow their friends and family to be unsaved. Think of Pricilla. History tells us that she was instrumental in her church. Think of the missionaries, how many of them were men in the past 250 years? Women took on the burden and the zeal to spread the gospel to every man woman and child. Yes, backward laws and social commandments from catholic ruled societies hindered women in many ways, but for some reason the Lord has used women to spread His gospel to every corner of the world. Even when there were no men to lead the church, women stood in the gap and led it forward.
