MY COMMENTS: First of all, a 'sign' from God must align with the Scriptures, especially Paul's letters, for he is the chosen apostle and teacher to the gentiles in the body of Christ.

For instance, "Let no man say when he is tempted (tested), 'I am tempted of God; for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he cannot he himself tempteth no man (with evil)." James 1:13, ASV.

And, of course, prayer is so important, as we keep in tune.

As believers, we should want to do the will of God in our lives. Romans 12:2 reads:

"And be not fashioned according to the world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God."

When your heart and mind are in fellowship with the Lord, you will walk in His ways.

Jesus speaks of not knowing how to interpret the SIGNS of the times, to the people who don't recognize His deity.

9-11 & the fall of Iraq (the location of ancient Babylon) are God's emergency "signs" & warnings of "the day of the LORD" when those on Earth who are not sealed by God will have a taste of Hell during the Great Tribulation for about seven years, as you can see here & toward the bottom of this page. "Shall evil befall a city & the LORD hath not done it?" (Amos 3:6):

14 The great day of the LORD [a phrase often used in the Bible to describe the time of Jesus' Second Coming and Jesus' reign] is near...15 That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress...1:16 A day of the trumpet and alarm against the fenced cities, and against the high towers. 17 And I will bring distress upon men, that they shall walk like blind men, because they have sinned against the LORD: and their blood shall be poured out as dust, and their flesh as the dung. (Zephaniah 1:14-17)

TO SEE HOW 9/11 IS PREDICTED BY GENESIS 11:1-9, REVELATION CH. 9-11 & CH. 17-18; AMOS 9:11, HEBREWS 9:11, JOHN 9:11, & REVELATION 9:11; ISAIAH 30:25; DANIEL 8; AND MORE, WHICH IS A "SIGN" THAT "THE GREAT DAY OF THE LORD...AGAINST THE HIGH TOWERS" (ZEPHANIAH 1:16) IS VERY NEAR, SEE:

MY COMMENTS: I was thinking about your question again. Actually "omen" is a synonym for "sign".

"Omen" by itself is not evil. There can be good omens and bad omens.

Where did you here that "omens" are wrong and forbidden?

I would gamble it would ahve something to do that in today's common usage, i tedn to hear omen used in regards to negative signs or feelings. However, I do agree, there is no difference, and i believe the Holy spirit can guide us using "omens" either good feeling or bad feeling, the bad feelings obviously being guilt.

Good post. I suspect that the person that asked this question is not thinking in terms of biblical signs, but of something of common occurrence in his life. Certainly the great events spoken of relating to the biblical eschatological theme of the "Day of the Lord" has many signs related to it. I would hesitate to use this as proof that God is in the habit of giving us a sign to direct us to put our left shoe on before our right shoe this morning. I also doubt I needed to wait for a sign from heaven to marry my wife. In fact there are some biblical guidelines for my marriage in that I cannot marry outside the faith.

Actually, the question of the author relates to special revelation. I agree that your answer is biblically correct. Signs will precede the Day of the Lord. I have my doubts that signs are given as a special revelation parallel with scriptural authority.
