1John 5:1 "Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him. 5:2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.5:4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.5:5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?) (KJV)

This thread is about the Commandments of God (Theos) and Jesus (Christos)

First of all. For anyone who claims to be a Christian must believe, by faith that Jesus is God in the flesh. Next, a Christian must live their lives being obedient to the 10 Commandments in the Old Covenant as well as the Commands of Christ Jesus in the New Covenant (Testament).

There are test's every day that either dis-approve or approve our real identity of being a true Believer in Jesus the Son of God, or a pretender.

There are pretenders, sad to say....
Matthew 7:21 "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven."

This thread is all about how to live a true Christian life according according to will of our Heavenly Father.
This thread will not be received by everyone because it will deal with Christians who have committed sin against God and are in denial, or uninformed about what is presently happening to them.

There are many people, of whom I have counseled that have problems with the reality of God. Why? Because they sin and think that they can get away with it.

Galatians 6:7 "Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap."

Good Topic, Brother.

May God give you wisdom and understanding, to convey His truth's to us, about this all important topic.

What do you say to those who will scream Grace.... ?

Grace is the Holy Spirit, that works with us, and empowers us to walk with God, leading us and guiding us into all truth.

That's why He is called the Spirit of Grace.

Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace? Hebrews 10:29

Grace is God power, [The Holy Spirit], given to us, [not because we deserve it or earned], to empower us to do what we can not do, without it.

I've never kept the Sabbath in my life.
And I fall short on the others.
Am I going to hell?
When's the next bus?

Back in the 70tys there was a saying going around...
If being a Christian was a crime would there be enough evidence to convict you in a court of law?

What do you say to those who will scream Grace.... ?

Grace is unmerited favor. That favor is directed at whomever God see's fit. Usually when a believer is in a tough place in his/her life and God steps in and blesses that person that's great. The greatest example of grace is found in our Salvation. Christ died while yet we were sinners.

For the person who has committed a sin against God, by the way, all sin is against God in the first place, and then against oneself and others. People think that God's Grace is automatic, WRONG!! A sinning Believer must settle for forgiveness, if God grants grace for something that's wonderful. To expect the Grace of God is an assault on the nature of God.

Just a quick note about the Commandments. I'm not writing about Salvation. I'm writing about how to walk in the Spirit that would fulfill the desire of God to live the way He intended.

That isn't what you said Chopper.
In the OP, you said if anyone claims to be a Christian, they must obey the 10 Commandments.
That's what I answered to.
Now you're changing things?

What do you say to those who will scream Grace.... ?
For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. (Titus 2:11-14).

No Rollo. Hang in there, I not finished. This is my quote from 1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments:

This thread will be hard to receive for some. Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God./

I think many people accept Christ and His Grace, then continue on their merry way...with no regard to lifestyle change, waiting for God to come and magically transform & renew them in an instant.

It just doesn't work that way. Only by our own effort (obedience) will God renew our heart. Obedience opens the door for God to act, and transform us. When we say no to temptation, it changes our heart to a degree and over time is transformed completely.

I think that's what John 1:12 is talking about. After we receive Him as our Lord and Saviour, we then have the power to become the sons of God (we don't get that automatically!).

As far as I can tell, there's four levels of relationship with the Lord, with 3 of them up to us how far we go. (Follower-Friend-Son-Bride).

Check me on this, Brother Chopper.
We accept Christ, are born again. All of our sins are blotted out, and we stand unblemished. The next day we sin...are these sins already forgiven/blotted out, we go on our merry way without concern?
Or we repent, confess them, and ask forgiveness?

I'm reminded of King David. Kept sinning and yet is called a man after God's own heart. He would get back up and turn back to the Lord, is why.

I want to thank those of you who have responded thus far. Now we are going to dig into the meat of my OP verses.

I am going to use marriage and divorce as my main subject. This is a very serious subject that will explain a lot of what's happening in lives that don't take sin and it's results as serious as it should be. Part of this thread will touch on the fear of God, and the consequences of sin.

When I started out preaching in 1976, divorce and re-marriage was not something that got a lot of attention. It was sort of a private issue within families. Divorce was a shame on any couple and so privacy was practiced. I have, over the years, counseled many couples who were on the verge of divorce. One couple comes to my mind that I will use as my example for this thread.

Howard & Denise (real people) came to my home office for marriage counseling in April of 2005. They came every week for about two months. I could mention a lot of information about those counseling sessions but that would cause this thread to be very long so I won't. I'll get right to the meat of this thread....Remember the title of this thread, SO YOU THINK YOU'RE A CHRISTIAN.

Nearing the end of our sessions, in my heart I knew that they would eventually divorce. O they played a great game in those sessions, did their homework, read the Scriptures together and so on. Both Howard & Denise said they were Christians. They even attended a church that I was the Pastor of 10 or 12 years previous.

This was a warning that I gave them, and is a major part of this thread. I warned them of the trouble that would come their way if they divorced. Folks, this is very very serious. Divorcing couples are only looking at the past and present, not the future. In fact, sin produces future trouble. Every sin is forgivable, and God will not bring that sin against us in the future, it's gone. BUT!! what about consequences of that sin, Oh oh.

To be continued....

Amen, Brother.

Thanks JLB. I'm looking forward to your comments because you have a very good grasp on the Scriptures that I'll be using. I don't always agree with you on some subjects, but know this, I respect you highly and run your position in my mind to examine my own views. You're a good man and I honor you as a learned Brother in the precious Word of God.

I know that as I go along, you will add some vital theology to our thread. I'm asking you to help me in the area's of the consequences of sin. No one likes to think that sometime in the future, God may spank us.

Here is something that many do not know. We are not saved at the moment of Salvation, but only sealed by the Holy Spirit until the day of redemption when Christ returns for His Bride, Ephesians 1:13, 14. Matthew 24:13 says those who have accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior an endure all the trials and tribulations of this world until the end will be saved. Either the end of this mortal life or those who will still be alive when Christ returns. The Holy Spirit keeps our soul guarded as the enemy can kill the flesh, but never the soul for that is where the Holy Spirit dwells, Matthew 10:28.

What man deems to be sin is not always what God deems to be sin as we are to obey the commandments of God with the greatest one being love. Hebrews Chapter 10 explains that a true Spiritually born-again child of God will not draw back unto perdition as we live by faith and be obedient to the will of God.
