If you plan to keep the Sabbath according to scripture then here's what you will need to do: (good luck :wink)

EX 16:29 Bear in mind that the LORD has given you the Sabbath; that is why on the sixth day he gives you bread for two days. Everyone is to stay where he is on the seventh day; no one is to go out.

Don’t travel on the Sabbath.

EX 20:8-10 Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates.

1. Don’t you or anyone in your household do any work on the Sabbath.
2. It also includes animals which have been replaced by cars, trucks, tractors, buses, airplanes, trains, etc., So don’t work and don’t use a motor vehicle on the Sabbath.

EX 31:14-17 Observe the Sabbath, because it is holy to you. Anyone who desecrates it must be put to death; whoever does any work on that day must be cut off from his people. For six days, work is to be done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day must be put to death. The Israelites are to observe the Sabbath, celebrating it for the generations to come as a lasting covenant. It will be a sign between me and the Israelites forever, for in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day he abstained from work and rested.

1. The seventh day is for rest; do not work on the Sabbath
2. Israelites are to observe the Sabbath. (not gentiles, Israelites)
3. The Sabbath is a sign between God and Israel. (Again, that’s Israel; not gentiles - So,if someone wants to keep the Sabbath according to God’s word then the men need to be circumcised like the Israelites.)
4. God abstained from work and rested on the 7th day and Israel is to do the same.
5. Kill people who don't keep all these Sabbath rules. (probably just those in your household)

EX 35:1-3 Moses assembled the whole Israelite community and said to them, "These are the things the LORD has commanded you to do: For six days, work is to be done, but the seventh day shall be your holy day, a Sabbath of rest to the LORD. Whoever does any work on it must be put to death. Do not light a fire in any of your dwellings on the Sabbath day."

1. The command concerning keeping the Sabbath Holy came from the LORD not from Moses.
2. Rest on the Sabbath and do no work.
3. Do not light a fire in your dwelling on the Sabbath. (Furnace, oven, light bulb, car's motor)

LEV 23:3 There are six days when you may work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of rest, a day of sacred assembly. You are not to do any work; wherever you live, it is a Sabbath to the LORD.

DT 5:12-14 Observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy, as the LORD your God has commanded you. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your ox, your donkey or any of your animals, nor the alien within your gates, so that your manservant and maidservant may rest, as you do.

Don’t use any utility (electricity, gas, internet, telephone, etc.) or public service (roads, police, radio, TV, bus, etc.) because that requires anyone to work on the Sabbath in order to provide the service.

OK! Have at it!

Actually notice that Sabbath Day is singular...as in not plural...as in Meaning one day.
There is only one Sabbath Day that people had to show faith in the future of it's coming by doing no work one day a week under Old Covenant Law. Which is why the capitol punishment for violating it.

Sabbath also means cease. As in the cessation of the Old Covenant and institution of the New Covenant.

In the Gospel of John... Jesus was always shown to be breaking the Sabbath (as the leadership and John saw it) But in truth there was only one...

I posted this to show how a modern Sabbatarian would keep it.
The types and shadows are really a different topic.

Or, you can be led by the Spirit.

But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Galatians 5:18

those who do keep the Sabbath already know the benefits

those who don't want to keep Sabbath will never know the benefits

keeping Sabbath was given even before the law was given:
1. Genesis 2:1-2
2. Exodus 16:26-30
3. Exodus 20:10-11
4. Exodus 23:12

i can testify that when i started keeping sabbath there was a noticeable increase of blessing and peace in my life

it was surprising to me

i talked to others who started keeping sabbath and they had the same experience

i started following the food instructions and same result

if a person believes there is no benefit to doing this they won't even try - and they will never know what sabbath keepers know experientially

but i don't recommend keeping sabbath with the wrong attitude because that would make it a waste of time and effort

if a person knows God wants them to keep sabbath God will also show them ways to easily keep it and enjoy it

Awesome.

Could your share with us some of the things that you do in the way you keep the Sabbath?

What time has theLord led you to start?
Do you prepare your food the day before?

Sometimes I have used the Sabbath as a day to fast and meditate.

Do you attend service on that day?

Thanks JLB

prepare all food before sundown friday - so that we can all rest until sundown saturday

use the sabbath as a mini retreat time with family - praying - worshiping - scripture reading - meditating

anything to draw close to God and focus on God - like you do when you fast and pray

fasting sounds like an awesome idea - we basically picnic because we don't cook

we now attend service at the synagogue on shabbat and sunday service at the church - but we are thinking of going back to the original way of staying home both days and creating our own family mini-retreat

as a family we feel that it was nicer when we stayed home

going out on the weekend to services seems to us all to break the peace and power of a family staying home and seeking God together

we are thinking maybe we should go to weekday services at both synagogue and church to stay in community because the blessing of staying home on shabbat is so profound when it is used to draw close to God

God bless you my friend

The way you describe it I think the Lord is honored and is covered by Paul's teaching, however for me I don't regard any day over the other but see keeping the Sabbath as another law that the Jews kept for 2000 yrs to keep intact their nation as unique and separate while they were out , a miracle in itself imo .. If I were to keep the Sabbath it would be on the Sabbath day and have no problem with those who do .. Sometimes I foolishly think the 7th day of creation God had Jesus in mind specifically for rest or we would have worked him to death before we could crucify him .. How could anyone not love that guy and I also think he would have been the toughest middle linebacker who ever lived by far .. :yes

Do you use the utility services; Water electric etc?
Having done one feast ,the persons who do this are doing this as a form of worship.

That said in the tanach the 8th day of a maLe child was to circumcised. If that fell on shabat.you bet it was carried out or also offerings done at the temple.the daily offerings and also trimming of the candle (menorah)

Does the synagogue preach Christ?

Do you use the utility services; Water electric etc?
we do not cook or wash or work

the command is to not work and to not start a fire

some people want to transfer that over to don't heat your house when it is freezing and don't cool your house when it is too hot outside

but scripture makes it clear shabbat is for man not man for shabbat

what does that mean?

a day of rest is for man to honor and worship God and rest

not for man to get all weird about making strange interpretations of how to keep shabbat

also scripture is clear that you are allowed to feed and water your animals on shabbat or do anything that saves life or heals

those who keep shabbat know the blessings of doing so because they mostly understand the PURPOSE of doing so

one who does not WANT to do so will know neither of these things

conversely there are some who make keeping shabbat into a badge of honor or a condition of salvation - but none of that is true either

it is simply a day to rest in God and give Him honor

if that seems burdensome to do this then it is best not to do this

if it seems awesome to do this then that is the right attitude

i used to think it was legalism and trampling the blood of Jesus underfoot to follow the ot instructions

boy was i wrong

it is a blessing from start to finish

in fact if it does not seem like a blessing do not even try to do something - because anything not done in faith is sin

every instruction God gave us was to bless us

God bless you

Does the synagogue preach Christ?

not yet

we're praying

God told us to stay in community with our Jewish family friends and watch what He will do

so that is why we also go to church on sundays

that is also why we listen to the nt all the time to stay fresh in the words of Christ

but the jewish service is filled with hallelujah moments that are outstanding

for example the jewish name of Jesus is said all through the 4 hour service

the prayers are all blessings rather than petitions

scripture and prayers and blessings are sung - so it's 3 hours of worship

the jewish wisdom on Tanakh is really revealing of NT truths

i have friends that go to a messianic synagogue and they are also blessed in a different way

i keep asking God if we should switch over and so far He says to stay were we are and watch Him work - which He is

in the middle east and israel Jesus is appearing to muslims and jews and they are getting saved gloriously

we're praying for that in our synagogue

God Bless you my friend

amen this is true

the amazing thing about the 8th day is the blood clotting factor is the greatest on that day and then falls on the 9th and after that

God's instructions are so amazing when you discover the science behind it

so you attend a temple whereby its reformed? conservative? and or Chassidic, orthodox?

amen - great points - good word

i never thought God would tell me to keep shabbat or the food laws

i was actually opposed to it when i heard of others doing it

i thought it was obsolete and of no purpose and was setting aside the wondrous things God did through Christ

the law saves no one ever - but it sure raises a person's quality of life - simply because it is God's wisdom on how to do things well

when God told me i was excited

when i told my family and led them in shabbat worship and seeking God they loved it

we make sure we don't do it as a work but as a love

God Bless you dear friend

conservative with orthodox leanings - which means we can sit together as a family - but we keep kosher - and do almost everything in hebrew - prayers - scriptures - blessings

chassidic and orthodox don't really have a place for women

reform doesn't hold to many of God's instructions - they are kinda secular compared to the others

conservative is in the middle - they love God's instructions but don't get all legalistic about anything

but in truth a messianic synagogue would probably be the best option for someone who wanted to experience the life of Christ with jewish born believers

God Bless you my friend

ps. there is only the jerusalem temple - the rest are called shuls or synagogues

Who knows, maybe God is preparing to recall the Sabbath , I've wanted to visit a 7DA out of curiosity. Many years I was limited to Wednesday worship because my jobs sometimes required weekend work ..

that's is odd, my dad and grandparents were conservative, aunt too. I know that those have women( mayim balik Is a type of orthodox and the temple my grandparents went to was similar in the way they sat apart).
