I liked this movie because it had this eeriness about it. It was very suspenseful and you were usually waiting for something bad to happen.

It had the same kind of tone and mood that the movie Gattaca had. I'm also reminded of Event Horizon even though Solaris never went in that same direction.

Good movie though, check it out.

I haven't seen it yet, partly because I have an aversion for Geoge Clooney - ugh!

I did see Event Horizon years ago and had no idea what it was about or what to expect - it was simply awful!!!

Anyone remotely interested in this movie should look up the Russian movie director Andrei Tarkovsky.

What was that flick with Samuel L. Jackson and Sharon Stone? The science fiction movie about that sphere from space (The Sphere maybe?)? Well, that movie also took its main concept from Tarkovsky's Solaris.

Sphere. That movie was based off of the book written by Michael Crithon I believe.

I personally liked the movie Sphere.

What's up Heidi!?!

The original Solaris is a flick from the early seventies (72 I think)...and Crichton isn't beyond its influence...the whole subconcious-thought-materializing-into-tangible-objects thing is undoubtedly from the Tarkovsky film. (remember in Sphere...the eels...the book with blank pages because it wasn't read yet - I saw it once when it first came out...so I may be off as far as the exact details are concerned!)

I don't really like Crichton, but WestWorld was pretty cool...his "science is evil" philosophy is overshadowed by the movie's better aspects!

Sphere was a cool movie...I agree.

I didn't know there was an original Solaris. So what your saying is that that story is old and the Crichton's Sphere is based off of that? I wouldn't have known. I never saw either movie (Solaris that is). Nor do I know anything about them other than what has been said here.

I have read a couple of Crichton's books (Jurassic Park and Timeline) and liked them but am not too crazy about him over all.

Isn't WestWorld the one with Yul Brenner? Haven't seen it in ages! But I did like it!

Yeah, the new Solaris is a remake of a Russian film...I'm luke-warm about the books as well!

Don't know anything about it being a movie or anything but I recall it was one of the last Atari 2600 games produced. Looked like something good enough to be on the original Nintendo system.

I remember that game too. I think I have it somewhere buried away in the attic. It was one of my most favorite 2600 games when I was little.

Sphere was a good movie. I like phsycological movies.

Yeah, love that movie. I would say that movie is almost the definition of a psycho-thriller. Definitely a must see.
