Shadows, Fight Inside, Never Be the Same, Buried Beneath, Faceless, Lie to Me (Denial), Let It Burn, Who We Are, Best is Yet to Come, and Start Again.

Probably my top favorite is Best is Yet to Come. Mostly for the lyrics.

Not Alone is another soft one they did that I like.

Ty, and actually I think I've heard Shadows a few weeks ago; maybe it was you that told me about it. Shadows's lyrics, about 'holding onto you as I enter the shadows' remind me of the verse in Proverbs: 'Trust in the LORD, with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct Thy paths.' (Proverbs 3.5-6)

(It's what it make me think of, anyway.)

And it really does have a vigorous hard rock opening, doesn't it!

Blessings.

Yup.

One of the other songs I mentioned, Buried Beneath, particularly has some personal meanings for me.
Also, the second verse starts out like "I built this house on the shore; all I wanted was more; then I felt the sand start shifting"...Jesus' parable about the two men who built their houses, one on the rock and the other on the sand, anyone? :biggrin

Yes, good!

And it also reminds me a bit of Psalm 40: 'He brought me up out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my going; and He hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God'.

Some vigorous hard rock accompanying sound, too.

Blessings.

I'd kinda rather not say who it was. ^^; They don't know all that much about the instruments used in rock, apparently.

My piano teacher told me that it's easy to learn the basics of guitar playing, but that there is music theory behind it and if you want to get into theory it takes more.

I took 6 years of classical piano and can verify that statement. I certainly wish I had more theory but it didn't interest me when I was in grade
school. It is fun to pick out the blues chords of hard rock, the oriental and classical chords of metal, spanish styles etc.
Stringed instruments like violin and electric guitar often slide over notes, more than a run which is composed of a series of notes. My husband
calls it like a cat with its tail caught under the rocking chair.:lol He doesn't appreciate my classical either. I never learned the block chord style
that is taught today. They use piano more like a bass guitar. Less melody sometimes and more emphasis on rythm.
I really like the music of the Russian composers of 100 years ago that base their music on folk tails. Peter and the Wolf is a favorite with its
progressive chords. The story is fun, too.

I still think that among the Red songs that I've heard, Forever has got the most effective and rigorous hard rock / heavy metal and lyrics combination, made especially memorable by the sudden, loud opening and the sudden ending.

Blessings.

..

PS:

questdriven:

It's all very well for some folk to dismiss bands like Red, but like you say, there may be meaningful words and associations there; and certain the Forvever song has words that Christians can identify with.

Now Rachel that has just joined says she doesn't like heavy metal, which is fair enough; but it's another thing to dismiss it altogether.

Blessings.

Yeah, it's perfectly fine not to like a music style. I don't care for rap, in general. (Though I do like some of it.)

In the end I guess music style is subjective, but the thing about the Fundie minset (if I can call it that) is that various styles are sometimes supposed to be no-nos (like a lot of other stuff).

Blessings.

What do you think of Red's song Let It Burn, which seems to be about questioning God? For some reason I really like that song. We all question God at some point.

I haven't heard it yet. Thanks for all your suggestions.

There is a sense in which the Psalms are a dialogue with one's conscience. What I don't like is the idea that the only part of a conscience dialogue that is recorded should be the part that seemingly promotes doubt.

But the Forever song does seem to indicate faith and trust, as I recall. Amidst some really authentic hard rock sound, right?

Blessings.

PS: 'Burn, baby, burn' was also a 1960s slogan used in some race riots, years ago. Kind of expresses a lot of anger.

Blessings.

Was able to pre-order Red's new album that's coming out next month. 5 bucks is a very good price for an entire album. :) (They were selling pre-order cards at Winter Jam.)

Probably.
I also got a download of one of the songs when I put the code in on the site, but I haven't listened to it yet. (My brother's playing video games, so there's enough noise in here right now.)

One lot of hard rock sounds is enough at one time, right? (Hope your mom is used to it by now, if she's in the same house.)

Blessings.

If she's home, I usually keep my music turned down low. If she's not home, I turn it up. xD

questdriven:

It's good to be respectful like this, yes, especially if you're living in her house. Sound like you are far more of a hard rock woman than she is, though. (I'm sure there was plenty of hard rock around when she was your age, though.)

Blessings.
