A Children's Bible Story book is a wonderful resource ... The Message of Scripture comes through.. the word pictures of Christ just abound in them...
We can learn and understand obedience . The stories of Moses and Noah show faith... Some even show us Grace and God's jealousy ... They are good to read even if your not kid .
amen and that is exactly how the preacher of over fifty years started out --milk

I'm not so sure Willie. It spurs questions that are leading her to the bible stories, and that's a good thing and I think reba rebaspotted it first. We would all do well to take her lead.

I think being concerned for a child's life should be something that causes us to pause and when it affords us to show the faith others experienced in their trials, it can help us to get through our own trials. Often, this aspect of faith is overlooked, and we simply put the ancients in such a high realm, their faith seems unobtainable. And that's a dangerous view imho.

Our faith is a reflection on how we think, and act. Feelings and emotions can cause us to loose our faith, and depend on our own understanding because the fear of hurting another that is close to us can be so strong. We don't do things Gods way because we don't trust God enough to trust him with the ones that are closest to us, and especially an infant.

Imagine for a moment the faith it took for the mother of Moses to put him in that basket. The dangers were real. Her fears were real. She had to trust God with her beloved child. And she did.

It reminds me of how my faith lacks at times. I want to protect the ones that I'm close to, but because my faith is weak and I don't want to risk the loss, I do it my way, and not Gods way. It always ends up worse...

There is a great lesson to be learned here.

I love this post! While it speaks to the same underlying Truths I tried to address, it does so in a very different way. That's how fellowship is supposed to work :)

Besides The Prince of Egypt isn't even a Disney movie anyway, it's DreamWorks.
You might be able to say that next year. Right now, they are still linked, one to another. At least make yourself aware of their connection.

I'm on my way to bed for the night. However before I say my prayers and go to sleep, I was just thinking about watching The Prince of Egypt and there has always been something that has bugged me about the whole entire story of Moses. I realize that his mother was only trying to save his life (and did so in the end) but isn't sending a poor defenseless baby out into the water pushing it just a bit? I mean what if he drowned or got eaten by a crocodile. (they were already eating babies anyway) I mean I know the Bible said that she fixed the basket so it wouldn't leak but what if she made a mistake?

Edit; I just discovered that his sister kept watch but she couldn't possibly stay standing there every waking moment. And I think the Bible mentioned Moses nursing on his own biological mother but I can't find the actual verses. Is this the only time he saw her?

Huh? Moses? You don't think the Lord was with him or something? That maybe his mother was not Spirit led to do that to save the boy? No one can thwart God's plans! They have tried, but God always lets them get away somehow. It happened. It happens! :wink

HIR2018,
There is a bold change in policy on this site that is a hindrance to truth. You asked me a question, I answered it and It was removed as being off topic. I will likely be booted soon because I do not teach the New Covenant Church lies and always do my best to be honest. That will not float as I have been censured for no other reason, recently, because the response, based on the Word has been to harsh. It was what God said but the new admin looks to be leaning to the single faceted false god.

I'm sorry I honestly don't know what you're talking about. Why would you be concerned about my salvation when it wasn't the question I asked and I'm already saved?

info-
1. bulrushes grow in shallow water areas rather than deep rushing water - and they are stronger than they appear :

2. crocodiles don't' like to be in the bulrushes - they like beaches and watery areas - they submerge in the water and watch for prey rather than hide in bulrushes to wait for prey:

3. imo yochebed put her baby son in the safest spot available in Egypt - hiding in the bulrushes on the shallow edge of the nile river - right in the path the princess took to take her daily nile bath - the path of the princess and the spot on the nile the princess bathed was most likely the safest spot available

Exodus 2:1-10
2 And a man of the house of Levi went and took as wife a daughter of Levi. 2 So the woman conceived and bore a son. And when she saw that he was a beautiful child, she hid him three months. 3 But when she could no longer hide him, she took an ark of bulrushes for him, daubed it with asphalt and pitch, put the child in it, and laid it in the reeds by the river’s bank. 4 And his sister stood afar off, to know what would be done to him.

5 Then the daughter of Pharaoh came down to bathe at the river. And her maidens walked along the riverside; and when she saw the ark among the reeds, she sent her maid to get it. 6 And when she opened it, she saw the child, and behold, the baby wept. So she had compassion on him, and said, “This is one of the Hebrews’ children.”

7 Then his sister said to Pharaoh’s daughter, “Shall I go and call a nurse for you from the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for you?”

8 And Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Go.” So the maiden went and called the child’s mother. 9 Then Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Take this child away and nurse him for me, and I will give you your wages.” So the woman took the child and nursed him. 10 And the child grew, and she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. So she called his name Moses,[a] saying, “Because I drew him out of the water.”

We know that the current Pharoh was ruthless. And was killing the male children of the Israelites. At the same time, the Israelites knew God was going to send them a delivered.
Exodus 1:16 KJV
And he said, When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the stools; if it be a son, then ye shall kill him: but if it be a daughter, then she shall live.
17 But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive.

I believe he wanted the male children killed, but the midwives saved them.

Great catch!
I always see the parallel with Matthew 2:16 When Herod realized that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was furious, and he gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had learned from the Magi.

And.
IMHO
The worlds major population was dead in front of the 8 souls on the ark, and they toned down sin when they got off the ark. Were they perfect? No.

Egypt saw their eldest sons die and it made an impact on them (they probably slowed on even thinking of killing infants - - can’t quote a scripture), but Joseph and Mary and baby Jesus found refuge in Egypt).
Matthew 2:13 KJV
And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.

Revelation 12:4 KJV
And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.
5 And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.
6 And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.

Amazing isn't it? Have you read much New Exodus Theology? It's been years for me, but there does seem to be many quirky similarites.

(they were already eating babies anyway)
II Kings 6:29 KJV
So we boiled my son, and did eat him: and I said unto her on the next day, Give thy son, that we may eat him: and she hath hid her son.

While i agree children were eventually eaten, I do not think at the time of Moses that they had gone that far. Sin is progressive and later they would get there.

I do know eventually the sins of Israel exceeded the sins of the Gentiles.

It looks like i am the details police at this point, but I do not want it to be that way. We all can get things a bit mixed up.
