This year next month it will be six years since the Sandyhook Elementary school shooting and for some strange reason I keep reading that a lot of conspiracy theorists seem to think that it was faked and I just don't understand why and how they can be so disrespectful about it. Many parents and families were grieving that day and you can bet that their pain will never truly go away. R.I.P to all of the victims who lost their lives that day and I sure hope that you're in a better place. :halo

Why would people think something like a whole school would get behind staging something like this. No one needs that kind of media attention.

The root of this particular lie is fear of gun control measures by the government.
Another conspiracy theory that (surprisingly) gained traction is that 9/11 was an inside job (perpetrated by the US gov't) as an excuse for invading Iraq and Afghanistan.

Now I'm naturally skeptical. I don't believe everything I read, but I think the people that come up with these theories are saying a lot more about how their own minds work than anything else.

Also, one of the reasons I believe people are becoming more and more "numb" to mass shootings and other tragic news is not because they are happening more frequently, but because they immediately become politicized and quickly passed through the 24 hour news cycle (ie: on to the next thing).

And the more I watch this video, the more I think about the idiot who looked into the angelic eyes of all of these innocent faces and decided to pull the trigger. :crying

Which is why we don't allow the promotion of any "conspiracy theories".

It's usually a slap in the face to someone.

My father played a very minor roll in the electronics that went to the moon during the Apollo missions. But we were all very proud to have my father be a part of it.
And there are those who claim the moon landing was fake. As if my father did nothing.

There's a million conspiracy theories out there...all of them are hateful and disrespectful. From the Kennedy assassination to the Luminatie. Not a one of them has truth but all have lies and dissention.

Benjamin Franklin said it best, "Three can keep a secret so long as two of the three are dead"

I think it's a good thing to be skeptical. We know for a fact, that the enemy's primary tool against us is deception. That said, what makes anyone with half a brain think that the gooberment couldn't orchestrate a big huge deception like some of the conspiracy theories say?

The gulf of Tonkin incident turned out to be true...just sayin'...

Sure the second incident was a complete fabrication but the first incident actually happened. And the truth came out. (Despite the exagerations)
There really wasn't much to the incidents (true and fabricated) to begin with. The fabricated incidents were more about loyalty to McCarthur than anything else. (Who had been fired while being right)

But all the rumor Mills actually created the legislation that followed. And these "conspiracy theories" by the rumor Mills we're actually to blame rather than the single lie created about a fight that never happened.

So...

Conspiracy theories kill people.
We ain't having any part of them.

I'm sorry but I have to somewhat disagree with you on that last thing you said. Conspiracy theories (although very harmful) don't kill people. Guns don't even kill people. People kill people. And the fact that somebody shot and killed all of those kids who barely had gotten the chance to live at all is sick and disgusting by itself, but the fact that some people are saying that it was all a lie obviously don't know the pain of having to lose a child which is something that nobody should ever have to experience. I wish I knew why things happened like that, but obviously I'm not pointing the finger at God because He wasn't the one who pulled the trigger.

In this case the real "conspiracy theory" was the one that caused us to go to war. It was perpetuated and inflated long before the lie. The truth was something that no one wanted to even begin to acknowledge. (That McCarthur was right even though he only had half the truth and the president Truman was wrong but had an ego problem)
Today's war on Terrorism wouldn't exist if the truth was actually discussed way back then. (Yes, it really is fallout from that era)

So you say that conspiracy theories hurt no one? There are literally a few million lives lost that say that you are wrong.

Promotion of conspiracy theories are the same as yelling "fire" in a crowded theatre where people trample each other in the race to get out. It's inciting people to violence and unacceptable behavior to "right the wrongs".

The real problems from that time were nothing compared to the problems we face today because of the handling of the problems way back then. The rumor mills (conspiracy theories included) and the "sound bite" politician were allowed to win. None of them were challenged... only joined.

Which is another reason why we don't discuss politics here either. It's horrible behavior full of conspiracy theories and half truths.

We are a Christian site...we are not going to create a platform for sin.

I'm sorry I think you misunderstood me. I meant that conspiracy theories in themselves I don't think physically hurt anybody although they definitely emotionally scar them and cause problems. I did anything to upset or offend anybody I humbly apologize for that was not my intention. I am against these kinds of things as much as you are and that's the point I was trying to make.

As a dad to be, I’m more sensitive now to parents losing their children (by any means) then I ever was. With the birth of my daughter comes the possibility that I may have to bury her. I even had a nightmare about it before she was even conceived. I can’t imagine the pain that flows through someone who loses their child and how much worse it is when someone out there is trying to discredit that loss.

There's a sore spot for me about that whole "cold war" era and McCarthy-ism.

Here's a history lesson for you.

After WWII
Russia under Stalin and China each were looking at power and land grabs. Both were under Communist styles of government...and they weren't working.

General McCarthur was appointed ten years after the end of WWII to the UN to deal with Japan and the Far East.

What McCarthur noticed was agressive actions by both China and Russia. He asked for troops to help with the problems in Korea.
Unknown to McCarthur was the sheer volume of Russian and Chinese troops waiting for the word to go out and conquer nor the sad state of American forces to actually wage a war on the scale needed at that time. Truman and General McCarthur were at odds with each other and the General got fired.

Meanwhile back in the States Senator McCarthy was doing a whisper campaign against communism. (During Eisenhower and Johnson's presidency) Which became flat out trials against those who signed cards to join the Communist party. (Which was a joke in reality and function) and comprised many out on the West Coast centered in Hollywood (mostly those opposed to WWII)

In the meantime the "emperor" of China was exiled to Taiwan for being a Christian and capitalist...today Taiwan can purchase mainland China. Stalin was busy taking from the rich and bribing the poor...and when this didn't work he literally starved and froze people by diverting food and energy supplies elsewhere away from dissenters. The Communist government of China was busy doing the exact same thing. Millions of people died at the hands of these people.

The true conspiracy was the belief "everything is ok" and the communists within us are going to destroy us. This outrageous behavior was because of this "conspiracy theory" that people wanted to believe.

This "conspiracy" about an attack from Korean gunships doesn't even halfway come to the level of the truth of this. It was a lie by well meaning men who seen the atrocities and felt something needed to be done. The real conspiracy theory was that everything was ok. Today the unrest in the middle East is a direct result of Russian involvement trying to gain access to the petroleum oil market for Europe. The unrest of the Far East today is from China of old.

Alright truthfully, history is really rather difficult for me to understand, but as long as we're still friends that's all that really matters to me. :)

Do not sell yourself short. The study of history is merely memorization of things that happened. Anyone can do that. Where it goes off the rails is when someone starts to talk about the "whys" of everything. When that happens, you aren't in a conversation so much about history anymore. Think of it like your news thing, it's just a telling of events. And unfortunately, just like the news today, there are far too many commentators that have no idea what they are saying.
