yup. its me. for my area, the storm comes in tomorrow and tarries thru early Monday. shouldn't be a big, big deal for my area...some ice, etc....but, as with anything, it depends on your "social location."

I live in a small southern city. we have a big homeless problem, despite what on paper looks like a booming economy. lots of drugs, poverty, under-paying jobs, plus...honestly, based on how difficult it was for me to get into a decent apt. -with- my "well-to-do" parents paying for everything, I can only imagine how a working person (or family) with no one backing them might run into trouble. so...

I pray for my parents (they're in a small town in the same county) and also for pretty much everyone affected, especially the more and most vulnerable people. the thing about poverty around here, in this day and age, is...its so rampant, and its almost...invisible. the homeless person, the person paying by the week in the cheap motel...more obvious examples. what about the person secretlly getting benefits in an OK apartment, small house, etc.? I'm pretty sure what goes on here is typical or becoming typical of America, as a whole....lots of poverty, many many more struggling to get by, and then some people who are on the spectrum from "well-to-do" on up to straight up rich. -sigh- not to get on the soap box, but..there doesn't seem to be a solid, middle-middle class around here, now. most people got pushed down, some people (My parents included) got boosted up...

-sigh- i'll be OK. even though on paper I live off disability for "severe mental illness," in truth...I live in a nice, well-heated condo my parents were able to buy for me. I have food and drinks and snacks and stuff to do and....my life is simple, I'm not anyone's idea of "cool," but...I"m healthy, safe, well taken care of, and increasingly thankful, 1st to God and then 2nd to my parents.

OK. per usual, this kinda...rambled. just remember, the next time a snowstorm or earthquake or "heat wave" comes on the news...a lot of the victims are people who were vulnerable or maybe barely hanging on, anyway. :-(

thanks, y'all. :)

Thanks for sharing this one. We have a huge "homeless" problem here as well. One church is working with the city and even pays a city employee to coordinate help in this. We are the capital of the state as many young street people are gathered in various areas downtown and around the capital this time of year. Then there are those of us (like me) living on small pensions (from my late husband) and social security just getting by. I live in an adult mobile home park and the rent in this area as is close to a shopping area, hospital, etc. is sky high..almost as much as renting an apartment. The mobile has been paid for long ago so I am referring to space rent and facilities. Many who live in nearby apartments on on government subsistence. Not me, yet, and hopefully won't have to in my lifetime. Housing market is good but can't see my way to selling as where ever I end up would be much more than here. Tis an old double wide, but lots of room and private. Does have a carport and yard. Of course that means snow removal winters and yard upkeep the rest of the year. Constant repairs, sometimes heat, sometimes plumbing, new hot water heater, etc. and deck and porch need repair. More to come. My car is 1996 but fortunately runs well yet..new tires cost a bundle this year, however. Oh, well, God is with and I trust in His consistent care for me just as he cares for His sparrows. (am a birdwatcher so can't help but compare). :biggrin Bless you and thanks for sharing. Love the honesty. You are a person of strong faith. Keep it up!

sorry. i tried to delete my post...

i think because of experiences i had really until recently, im not a fan of oppression and exploitation, and it really, really bothers me that human nature is such that we try to pull people above us down and stomp on those beneath us. poverty is one form of vulnerability to exploitation that I personally think could be reduced or even eliminated...

but instead we have billionaires. oh well. :-(

I'm sorry, I'm just a bit confused. Although money isn't everything and poverty is a horrible situation to be in, why is being a billionaire a bad thing? :confused

resources are finite. the more -very- wealthy individuals a nation has, the more poverty. maintaining a solid middle class requires the sort of taxation that reduces the number of wealthy and extremely wealthy people, but also helps reduce poverty and helps create upward mobility. :)

Oh okay, I guess that sort of makes sense. If I'm being completely one hundred percent honest with you I wouldn't be complaining too much if I was a billionaire though. :lol But I understand what you're saying to an extent. :yes

...maintaining a solid middle class...

Honest money would help with that. Credit creation is banker confiscation of Joe average's goods and services. Moving the average person steadily backward. There is a reason they used gold and silver as money in Bible times.

Thou shalt not have in thy bag divers weights, a great and a small. Deuteronomy 25:13 KJV

Its just not right for worker bees to put in decades to earn a pension, and then have some banker come along and slowly confiscate their pension by debasing the currency. The same measure should be used when a person is earning pension as when the person is spending the pension.

‘You shall do no injustice in judgment, in measurement of length, weight, or volume. You shall have honest scales, honest weights, an honest ephah, and an honest hin: I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt. Leviticus 19:35-36 NKJV
