Do you feel compelled to spread Christianity to others? If so, how and why?

I voted yes. Not only am I compelled but like all Christians I'm am commanded to by Christ.

The Great Commission
Matthew 28:16-20 (NASB):
16“But the eleven disciples proceeded to Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had designated.
17“When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some were doubtful.
18“And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “‘All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
19‘“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,
20“teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.â€Â’

Mark 16:15-18 (NASB):
15“And He said to them, “‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.
16 “‘He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned.
17 “‘These signs will accompany those who have believed: in My name they will cast out demons, they will speak with new tongues;
18 “‘they will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.â€Â’

I voted "No"
com·pel (kəm-pĕl') pronunciation
tr.v., -pelled, -pel·ling, -pels.

1. To force, drive, or constrain: Duty compelled the soldiers to volunteer for the mission.
2. To necessitate or pressure by force; exact: An energy crisis compels fuel conservation. See synonyms at force.
3. To exert a strong, irresistible force on; sway: “The land, in a certain, very real way, compels the minds of the peopleâ€Â

It causes more harm to Christianity instead of waiting on God's "timing" to spread the Word.

Yes, I agree that if God doesn't open the door....leave it shut.

I think the compulsion is within oneself to serve God. The compulsion is not not towards others where one forcefully compulses them. I mean, I feel compelled to serve God but I never feel compelled to force God down others throats. Part of my feeling compelled includes a driving desire to share the "Good News" with others. However, my approach to others is not rushing at them like a forceful, driving storm that can not be escaped. It is a gentle, kind, friendly approach. I want to share, but I don't want to force so if the other person is uninterested, I leave them alone. I also believe in God's timing and I feel we should be in tune to that.

your quotes make no sense.

the 2nd quote appears in teh bible beofre the first quote. and if you put it that way, it says to the apostles to preach, and to baptize, but never says for the baptized to do the same.

2 Timothy 4:1 I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;

2 Timothy 4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

1 Corinthians 1:21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

1 Corinthians 9:16 For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!

Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

I am a preaching fool.

The reason...

Jesus tells us to do just that.

There is no hope for the unsaved without hearing the gospel.

That is the way it is...Amen!

I said no.

Sometimes, by trying to 'force' Christianity on someone else, you drive them further away. As the Bible says, there is a time and season for everything. With that in mind, I will try to lead someone to Christ when the time is right, but never when it's not.

(Did that make sense?)

I agree forcing Christianity on someone is wrong.

Preaching the gospel is giving a lost person a chance to be saved.

The apostle Paul was driven to preach...

1 Corinthians 9:16 For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!

I am compelled, but I'm not into "compelling" others into the faith. When will God's timing start if we never start at least talking to people about Christ. Not forcing or preaching like an idiot, but forming relationships and telling people about Christ.

bibleberan, please read your bible in context

Mark 16:14 (New International Version)

Later Jesus appeared to the Eleven as they were eating; he rebuked them for their lack of faith and their stubborn refusal to believe those who had seen him after he had risen.

therefore mark 16:15 deals only with those eleven.

Hey, How come no one has mentioned the Great Commission? Matthew 28:19-20 Yes, I am compelled and commanded to Spread the good news!

So, no one else is to preach the gospel?

Interesting... wrong but interesting... :biggrin

I guess you did not read my post. I gave that one and the one from Mark as well.

To the others,

As for forcing I am never for forcing. I do wait on God's time when it comes to witnessing. I usually develop a relationship with a person, develop trust, and then witness. I am fully aware that most people do not want to hear the gospel and I know that randomly quoting scripture has no effect. In the end I usually share my testimony and if the situation calls for it I quote, or show some scripture.
