I do NOT know how to study. My instructor keeps saying that I need to develop study skills and that sometimes it takes a while for people to "learn" how to study.

I can read over something a hundred times and still not remember or have a clue what I read. I made a C on my first test and one point away from an F this last time. I have GOT to start doing something different! I know I'm not alone because 25% of the class failed. At least I didn't fail, but I have to do better.

I didn't do that great in high school, but that was because I was worried about socializing.

Can someone please give me advice?

Well, first, different technique's help different people. I'm one of those guys who doesn't need to study if they just want to a B average, so I don't study much and I still grab A's. Even so, when I do need to study, here's what helps me.

I find it hard to study when it is too quite, so I listen to music that I've listen to a thousand times. I choose this music because it is less likely to distract, but I still like it. For me, my study music is Chicago on a good day and 4Him on a bad one.

Another thing that helps is to take notes of whatever you are reading. It forces you to pay attention to the material closer. On that Idea, reading out loud could be another extreme for different people.

Most important study tip, study alone. when you with people you're going to be tempted to talk with or entertain them. Clearly that is not helpful. I found this out the hard way. Three hours with my bud's and I maybe read one chapter of the five chapter reading assignment.

I hope these tips help Nikki. 8-)

Be attentive in class and take lots and lots of notes. Note down some important things that the teacher says instead of just what's on the overhead or blackboard. Do all the reading. And, I find this really helped me on a test I took today, when you've written your notes, especially after a review session, take all the salient points that are going to come up, and write them all out. Then take those notes and copy them just before the test.

I copied the notes I took from a review session for my Multivariable Calculus Exam and the test went smoothly.

Something that helped me is to pretend to be the teacher and think up questions you would ask the students to show if they learned the material. That usually showed me what to concentrate on while studying.

The best way for me to study is to go somewhere very quiet, where there is not a lot of distractions, and focus on just studying. I hate studying so I do it like this so that the time i spend on it is most efficient and it doesn't take as long. I'm not sure if thats quite what u'r looking for but i hope i helped!

Set a time to study, first of all. Any distractions or problems that can make your mind wander, solve/get rid of. Do not try to study hungry, thirsty, or tired(as this is a distraction). Take several deep breaths before starting, in order to be calm(and to supply useful oxygen :-D ). Think only about what you are studying, and memorize what you can. Be alone also. Do not rush.

Hope that helps.
