study what ? yes i firmly believe we are to study the scriptures through prayer and through meditation and listening to the Holy spirit ;
to day we have resources librarians and via internet concordance dictionary commentaries . all these things are for help.. study is not to prove how much you know, But what God wants for us to do
Psalm 32:8
8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.
when Joseph told his parents and brothers he had a dream. that one day they would bow down to him... they all rebuked him very sharply ..then it says his dad observed what he had to say. i like to think observed is take a wait and see approach / a type discernment . i think of the parent of Jesus in luke when the heavenly hosts and the shepherds appeared it said they pondered them in there heart . i like to think pondered is thought/ meditated on all this. there us so much to study on .the Bible says
2 Timothy 3:16 New International Version (NIV)
16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, we have to look up word meanings example in 1 peter 15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; conversation means conduct in hcsb it reads conduct kjv says conversation . for my part i have to look up word meanings . the main Bibles i have is kjv but i use others in comparison.
1 Thessalonians 4:11 King James Version (KJV)
11 And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; this means not to be stirring trouble caring tales back and forth .

when we study and learn and grow which does not come from just studying .but being doers of the word and life experiences . not all knowledge is growth . but growth is part of knowledge . a man /woman may have a degree in education a mile long. but lack in common sense able to communicate . if they use big fancy words with out breaking it down. who can understand.
as we study we learn to bring it down to a level of understanding :readbible:amen. we never stop learning .. lets be open to others and treat it like eating fried chicken eat the meat throw the bones away

over look my writing skills.. see in h.s i failed to study to show myself approved ..i rest my case

when we study and learn and grow which does not come from just studying .but being doers of the word
AMEN
That is a key point. People who know "all about" the Bible but don't do what it says are, essentially, gnostics. They have knowledge.
Knowledge is NOT power. The USE OF knowledge is powerful.
Memorizing everything Jesus said is a waste of time if you don't put it into practice.

take 2 on study the eunuch was reading but had no idea what it was about .the Lord instructed Phillip to go
26 And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert.

27 And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship,

28 Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet.

29 Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.

30 And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?

31 And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.

32 The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth:

33 In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth.

34 And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man?

35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.

36 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?

had not phillip went and had he not explained the man would not have been saved . use the resources because reading alone is not enough

study is not to prove how much you know, But what God wants for us to do
You realize this goes against what we have assigned to ourselves from our school years. When we studied in school it wasn't to learn something but to prepare for a test, which is to prove how well we studied. We didn't even have to believe what we wrote for answers on the tests. The goal was to give the answer that would be acceptable to obtain a certain grade.

That's one of the problems that I see in school and our teaching methods. We don't teach for the purpose of helping our students learn, we teach for the purpose of helping our students pass a test. As students we don't study for the purpose of learning, we study for the purpose of passing a test. And this carries forward into our Biblical studies as well.

I think the context of Paul's letter to Timothy need be accounted first.
What to study? The teachings of Jesus were not in Bible form at the time of Paul's teaching. But Paul's letters to his churches were.
That Paul was evangelizing at first to convert Jews and Gentiles alike what was to be studied but what Paul ordered? The old testament pertained then to the Jews who did not yet accept that their Messiah had arrived as Jesus.
Paul was then commanding Timothy to what? Study his words , his letters, to rightly divide the truth? When there was no written new testament at that time.
Paul began his missionary duties at approximately 46A.D. The fist book in what is the new testament arrived at the year 70.
What was Paul then saying should be studied but his writing?

I also want to say that this topic really is not able to be discussed fully when we are confined by the belief statement of this site itself. The Trinity thread was closed informing of that restriction.

Apologetics and Theology are limited in scope here. We cannot freely discuss what the owners of this community have already set down as what is to be believed so that no other thing can be considered.

How do we study if we can't speak freely among one another and learn what there is to study and consider among one another?

i fail to see any reason it can not be discussed . while the Bible as we know may not have been written at the time. the principal to study is there. so how about admin address what selah has posted on restrictions... there should be guidelines as how we respond as in a respectful manner.. we should be allowed to disagree and show with scripture and comments . as per why you disagree..i will go out on a limb i done discussed this with another mod . its time to lighten up on the so called regulations... have you noticed we lost a few posters . who ever is in charge of the tos or what ever. needs take heed to the posters... were not in grade school
