I took today off and it feels good to not have to be anywhere. I have been working a lot but it is beginning to slow down because of Christmas. It always slows down the closer it gets to Christmas for the trades. Well I got up this morning and the only thing on my phone for work was a call I had yesterday that the supply house had to order the part for and that wont be in until tomorrow, Wednesday. SO before the secretary could generate some work for me, I called my boss and said hey, no work for today, cut me loose for the day. He misunderstood and said oh we'll get something for you to do...I said, no, I kind of want the day off. I'll take care of some errands and stuff. If an emergency comes in, someone with no heat, and the other tech can't get to them right away, then call me and I will respond to that. But otherwise let me have the day off. SO they did.

It feels so good to be off for the day. I got a few things done today and am already back home again. Early, with nowhere to be! Ahh! This is good for the soul.

It's fortuitous that's it's slowing down for Christmas for me. We've been so busy because it has been cold, and last summer it was so hot and humid, I ran my butt off. I'm almost getting burnt out I work so much. I don't want to let them down though, so this slow day was a good time to take a day off, both for them and for me. But I wouldn't mind going to work to help someone get their heat on, I like helping people, and also, that is what I had in mind (and told them) when I hired on. I don't mind being on call or going out at night. I have no wife or family at home screaming for my time any more. So if help is needed after hours or on holidays, let those men with families stay home with their families and call me, I'll go do it. I am on call Christmas week. I mentioned this in the office monday, and my boss started saying, oh we wont make you be on call on Christmas if you don't want to...(but this young man has a wife and two kids), so I said, what? No. You have a family, stay home with them on the holiday. It was to be me on Christmas as the regular rotation anyway. I have no family coming in for Christmas, my brother in Columbus has four daughters and about 20 or 25 grandchildren (I'm being facetious, lol) so he's there for Christmas. My boss said but if you want to go down there...No...I'd be a wild card with them. They will have a better time without me there, lol.

But New Years I am not on call so me and my bro can visit then. But it sure feels good to be off for a day.

Take a day sometimes, my Brothers and Sisters! It feels good! :sohappy

Being on disability every day is a day off, but not really. There is always something that needs done like laundry and cleaning, cooking and doing the dishes, ugh!!! There is only a couple days during the week I can fully relax without doing anything other then making supper and doing the dishes, but even then it's nice to have a break from that and eat out or order in something.

I do miss working outside the house as I worked for 32 years before my first knee replacement and now with both knees and both hips replaced and messing my lower back up rolling the four wheeler a couple times it's hard for me to stand or even sit for a long period of time. Actually standing and sitting became hard with the first knee replacement.

So ya, it's good to have a do nothing day.

Ik that this is sort of the opposite of what this topic is talking about (but I'm glad that you got your day of relaxation Edward :biggrin) but I know some people who might be able to help me find a job and so this spring I'm going to talk to them about it. :)

We decided to wait until spring because of the fact that that way I can have the rest of winter to hibernate and relax and enjoy Christmas, the start of the new year, and my birthday coming up in a couple of months. Anyways, please cross your fingers for me that I find the right job. :crossed I really hope that I enjoy it and since I'm on SSI as well, it has to be part-time so I don't get it taken away from me. (since there is a risk with full-time) Besides, I couldn't handle a full-time job anyways. I know because I already tried and it didn't go so well.

Of course I didn't have the greatest job coach in the world either so,.. :neutral yeah, that didn't really help me too much.
