all martial arts from japan, china and korea and the phillipines weren't intended to be for self-defense they were for war! later on as gun powder enter the scene they then become what we know them today. ju=soft. jistu=fighting. what does the mean? a method of using the attackers own attack and body against him. it also has strikes. this isn't a sissy art. its mean to harm and kill if need be. most of the throws will cause some head damage if the attacker doesn't know how to take a fall. jujitsu it self has weapons in some systems. mine does . I haven't been trained on them. but its there. knife, bo, jo, sword and also if taught bow and arrow! most of the those are relics, but I can surely use them for all killing and taking a life.

how exactly does a defensive system have archery?

Lol! Was typing out a response when I noticed a very suspicious punk coming down the alley with a spray can in his hand. Grabbed my phone and followed him. Captured him tagging some fences and then walking into his backyard. Went for a stroll from where he came and there was a garage door that had been tagged. Called the cops and now I wait.

See, none confrontational. ;)

I agree. In fact, out of those I know that have carry permits, I sometimes wonder how many of them would even be able to pull the trigger in the very rare instance where they actually needed to and were justified in doing so. I strongly suspect very few of them would be able to actually do it if they ever were in that situation. For a normal person (not one who already had homicidal tendencies) the frame of mind that would allow them to actually aim and pull the trigger before it was too late takes a lot of time and effort to develop.

It takes forethought! We have to work through these moral questions beforehand and answer them for ourselves because when the elephant is in the room, there's no time to think, you fall back on your training (what is in your heart). One has no business carrying a gun for defense if they have not decided already.

Good for you! I also must take note that it was not a life and death situation...and that you didn't (wont?) answer my question(s). lol. :lol

LOL! Yeah, very much so, and very much the best way to handle that situation too. Great job! But that was a spray can he had in his hands, not a gun nor a knife, and he was not attacking you or threatening the life of any other person that needed protecting from him!

As someone who does legally carry a gun and has for many years with much training and experience in how to handle situations just like this, I would have done exactly what you did.

Lol! I was answering them but got sidetracked. Give me some time.

Well, he could have hit me with it or thrown it at me. lol Anything physical and he would have come out on the losing end. Skinny little teen vs 6'4" @210 lbs.

Although, now that I think about it, if it can't be kept secret as to who told, we could have some property or vehicle damage some day. Punks...

LOL, sounds like your size advantage was all the "persuasion" you needed! And once again, hitting you with a spray can isn't life threatening. Like you, I never would have even drawn on him with a gun in that situation either. This is exactly how we all should handle things like this. Then less of these little punks would think they can get away with it so easily!

Edit: On second thought, I should clarify by all of us handling a situation like this the way you did, I mean with the size and ability advantage you had compared to an unarmed skinny kid. I'm not trying so suggest anyone should confront a person that has the advantage over them. Just dial 911 from a safe distance.

Yeah, it's not like I confronted him, although I was tempted. I almost needed to to get a close-up, now that I've had a look at the grainy cellphone vids and pics. Argh. I didn't dial 911 either, as it didn't seem so emergency like. Just got the evidence then dialed their general number.

I have to say that I struggled with it. We live in a townhouse complex and so does this kid. He's a known trouble-maker but he comes from a very broken home and his mom is unemployed at the moment, or so I was told earlier by a neighbor. He tagged the townhouse complex fences in three places but when I saw the garage door down the alley, not at all in the complex, I knew I had to do it. I do feel bad but he won't stop unless he gets his hand slapped, which is likely all he'll get, from the system anyway.

I do that the gang situation I mentioned with the kid. I was the one whom called the cops, though I wasn't there. I was on the phone with stove bolts and monica said, look you better stop that and she and I walked and I tried to get him to release the other boy. it wasn't much of choke but im not to go into depth on that. just that I used wisdom and when more fighting occurred I didn't start getting involved and stood at a safe distance to call 911 and they came and talked to me and the others. it was about ten teens involved in this.

I worked the 911 lines for about 3 years in the world's biggest and busiest 911 dispatch center. 911 is for reporting any crime in progress, not just for life threatening emergencies. Calling 911 would have been fine in this case, but either way, you did what was right.

Disparity of force must always be considered. A 6' 4" 210 lb man against one skinny little punk is not justification to draw a weapon (on the big guys side). Against 10 punks? Maybe.

they weren't a threat unless I put myself there. I had the opportunity not to engage when al 10 started fighting each other.

this punk you speak of was not in your face attempting to physically harm you so you did the right thing, although it should not be related to a physical assault it was totally different situation. and by the way had you shot this punk while he was spraying your property you would go to jail. Its the law.

Yeah, it just didn't seem serious enough and I knew where he lived anyway. ha ha So after the officer left, I was feeling fairly pumped and decided a workout was in order. And as I was working out, I realized I have the only two guns I'll ever need. lol ;)

It was pretty funny though when the officer left. He went to the unit where the offender lives and shortly after, the kid comes out from between his building and the one beside, slinking out of view and then sneaking around. He had gone out the back and snuck away. It was pretty comical and quite obvious that he was guilty.

I'll be back on topic shortly.

There you go brother. That sounds wise right there. Pick your battles carefully (if you can). Sometimes your hand can get forced.

I wonder if that is copyrighted. it has shihan on it. medina is called that. I will ask, if it is I will ask that it be removed, or put the page link to that.
