Never much cared for the beatles, and though they were a bit overrated.

I like about half their stuff.
The reaction to their music by the youth of the 50's and 60's was way over the top. People were looking for meanings where there wasn't any.

The music is good...good music is just good music. It requires a talent I don't own.

God gives people gifts of talent or the drive to be accomplished at their talents. I've always been enthralled at the work of artisans.

So did the Beatles contribute to the development of metal with Helter Skelter?

We've seen some good Christian metal posted here, early this year. My favorite is probably Many Will Come, by Sacred Warrior. Amazing message! Powerful, simple; just like the Gospel. The music goes with the words perfectly, which is a big part of me calling anything great.

the beatles are good. having said that...ever read The Outsiders? its assigned in high school, written by a hs-er back in the 60s. anyway...part of the book deals with the street toughs who still like evlis vs the gangs who like the beatles, and...

now, the beatles are just a huge part of pop culture, but i do think one reason there's this huge myth around the beatles is because of the 60s, the (re)marketing of all things counterculture, and the thing about it is...

by the 70s, they'd gone on to different, more 70s-style projects, especially McCartney. kinda like...david bowie cashed in on his success in the 70s to pursue projects in the 80s...

they were (and are) talented, but...they were also -very- skillfully marketed and promoted, so there's that, too.

I LOVE The Outsiders!! I only read the book once but I've seen the movie multiple times.
